19:37 This is exactly what happened in my previous church (prior to relocating to other country due to the course of work)! They only had SEVEN songs in their rosters that they sing Sunday in Sunday out for YEARS. All of these are super simple songs, a few even biblically faulty. Lovely bunch of folks, but very resistant to change. The so-called "sing a new song" is truly an alien thing for them 😭

I think it is surprisingly more pervasive among many congregrations, especially these days. That's why teachings grounded in Scripture is very important - as new creations we ought to worship the Lord in both spirit and *truth*.

I appreciated hearing the generosity of spirit, a sort of grab bag of assorted opinions and stories from Dr. Wright. Would have loved it to hear more of the views and differences between Stott and Martin Lloyd- Jones and how the church in England has developed from the 70’s into the 21st century. I also thought the brushing by of the subject of deconstruction of the faith, some have called it, subtraction, would be a vital topic to explore. I guess, for me , it reminds me of ordering something at a fine dining restaurant that presents a bunch of incredible small plates, none of which actually satisfies,but only leaves you wanting more. You know darn well, you aren’t stopping at Burger King somewhere to fill up afterwards either. The Alec Motyer reference was duly noted. His books on the Psalms and Isaiah are worthy of any library.

St Paul is brilliant... And Tom Wright is a good scholar on Paul.
@simonskinner1450
@simonskinner1450 10 дней назад
@@dewijlr Paul is so brilliant not many can understand him, as Paul's gospel of salvation of Romans is parallel to John's gospel, Romans written before AD70 and John after to witness all prophecy fulfilled. Until Tom understands there was no atonement at the Cross, Romans 5 to 8 are baptism not salvation, then he does not know Paul. I have a Ytube video series 'Myths in so-called Christianity' to start a conversation whilst I write a book, but most is available in the videos.

The Christian Church persecuted Galileo for telling the truth about God1s creation. Why?
@suzannedebusschere1607
@suzannedebusschere1607 10 дней назад
When earthly power and politics and personal ego become intertwined with the church, then that kind of stuff happens.
@JosiahTheSiah
@JosiahTheSiah 9 дней назад
Not really persecution, and not really for simply "telling the truth." Rather, he openly mocked the pope & Catholic church, and was given house arrest. It was a political maneuver, not a religious persecution. The heliocentrism debate was more of a backdrop. Persecution _did_ happen at the hands of the Catholic church, as well as some protestants, but Galileo is not really a good example of this. What Galileo is, is a good example of why the Church shouldn't be tied into governmental powers.
@tonyoliver2750
@tonyoliver2750 9 дней назад
@@JosiahTheSiah And one thing that people tend to forget about Galileo is that he hadn't actually managed to prove his heliocentric hypothesis. We can prove it now, but at the time it was merely an interesting hypothesis.
@JosiahTheSiah
@JosiahTheSiah 9 дней назад
@@tonyoliver2750 Right, there had existed mathematical models for heliocentrism for centuries as well, but these were far from accepted. Most people looked up and saw something that made its way across the sky in a predictable fashion day after day, year after year. It was a safe assumption that the earth was the center of all this celestial activity. After all, that Aristotle was a pretty smart guy. Nowadays with space photography, we have quite a different shared cultural imagination-but we've only had this benefit for the past 70 odd years. So geocentrism seems laughable to us, but for most of human history, it was the safe, default assumption.

@@JosiahTheSiah I, Galileo, son of the late Vincenzo Galilei, Florentine, aged seventy years, arraigned personally before this tribunal, and kneeling before you, Most Eminent and Reverend Lord Cardinals, Inquisitors-General against heretical depravity throughout the entire Christian commonwealth, having before my eyes and touching with my hands, the Holy Gospels, swear that I have always believed, do believe, and by God's help will in the future believe, all that is held, preached, and taught by the Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. But whereas -- after an injunction had been judicially intimated to me by this Holy Office, to the effect that I must altogether abandon the false opinion that the sun is the center of the world and immovable, and that the earth is not the center of the world, and moves, and that I must not hold, defend, or teach in any way whatsoever, verbally or in writing, the said false doctrine, and after it had been notified to me that the said doctrine was contrary to Holy Scripture -- I wrote and printed a book in which I discuss this new doctrine already condemned, and adduce arguments of great cogency in its favor, without presenting any solution of these, and for this reason I have been pronounced by the Holy Office to be vehemently suspected of heresy, that is to say, of having held and believed that the Sun is the center of the world and immovable, and that the earth is not the center I based my comment on the above.

@@pastors.nshange7660 The title of Mr Wrong is a bit smart sounding, but about 4 years ago I emailed back and forth to Tom who required me to read his book on Justification, I did and have the answers for him he said in his book he still lacks. Truly I have found the truth of the Cross, Justification and how atonement works in the new covenant, and the truth is in the NT but Christianity is the false teaching that Paul warned of that was both bewitching and beguiling. My videos are there to be checked out, which come from teaching I call 'hereafter'.

I suspect you would give up all your comfort to become destitute for no reason? Maybe you should reflect on everything Paul gave up to become one of the most, if not the most, persecuted Christian in history.

@@dennisfakoory5426 Paul is our hero as he described the false gospel teaching whilst he was alive, he was a Jew as was Jesus and his father in the flesh was Abraham. Paul only relates to his religion that came from Abraham, and set asidehis false believing of Moses, he was a lost sheep of Israel and returned to the flock. Paul did start Christianity he warned about its false teaching. This can be found in my video series.
