Tom Bombadil was a mysterious being that lived for much of the world's history, known in the Third Age to dwell in the valley of the Withywindle, east of the Shire, close to the dangerous Old Forest and Barrow-downs.
His domain was of modest size, but his power over virtually everything in it was extraordinary, and he possessed a supernatural power of singing. He lived with his wife Goldberry, "Daughter of the River," far from any other settlement. Though seemingly benevolent, he took no open stance against the Dark Lords.
