one of the most dominant performances as a whole at the 1996 Olympics. Tom only gave up 1 entire pt the entire tournament. only Gable has done a bit better (unscored upon in Munich)
6:00 in is my favourite moment in wrestling history. Tom's winning by so much in the gold medal match but still attacking until the very last second. Look on the refs face says it all.
Notice Brands NEVER stops attacking no matter what the score. Always a recipe for disaster when wrestlers try to protect leads and shut down their offenses.
Interesting strategy on Brands side.. he was giving him the shoot because he knew he had the edge on upper body strength to eventually get a throw... Also not much of a handshake at the end but not so much lack of sportsmanship but more the fact he's that focused and in the zone.. Wrestlers don't get enough credit, all time Olympic great performance IMHO
Tom and Terry brands are as real as it gets their passion is above and beyond and their Beady eyes are nothing to be taken lightly if you ever run into a small man with Beady eyes you should not fuck with them and run!!!
@jrsp99 Iowa has a great team! But i think when it comes to the olympic sports, you should represent the USA as a whole and all the great wrestlers in every state. Not just the hawkeyes.
ripstikgod you used to have to pull out your cup and show it to the ref before matches . Tom comes up and takes it out then tucks it back in. They did. Away with this by the time Sydney or Athens rolled around in 2000 or 2004 because I don’t remember seeing it after
Chandiwira Beza no. It was a handkerchief. We were required to keep one inside our singlet in case of bleeding. I wrestled in the late 70’s all the way through the early 90’s and cups were never used. Never. I wrestled nearly a 1,000 matches and have watched thousands and have never seen a wrestler wear a cup.
BRands really fucking left it all out there. Our wrestlers today absolutely do not do what he does. That's why we dont do well at lighter weights. Nobody fights like this. See how hard the japanese guy had to work just to get that leg and as soon as he lifts tom goes straight for the leg he doesnt even think twice.
Seems like a very weak weight class for some reason at ATL '96. Look at that same weight class 95 worlds and it was Dynamite. There wasnt exciting match thid whole tournament at this class.
