18 months ago I did this incredible interview with Tom Byer that got deleted during the whole sponsor fiasco but I was able to find it and bring it back. It's especially pertinent considering the rise of Japan in the global game but also question marks around our depth/quality.

My sisters doing this (I told her a while ago about Tom and his work) she's got my 3 year old niece (Lorelai), playing with a small ball, Lorelai absolutely loves football, she can only do pretty basic stuff right now but her older brother (hes 11) plays it with her in the back yard, she can actually dribble the ball a bit now and already change direction with the ball (she was excited to get her mother to show me she could do it when I video called her, we currently live miles apart, so i dont see them that often) she's too young right now but she can't wait to play for a team

Very much reminds me of reading. When the kids were little we had books in every room.

I remember watching this. Great interview. Didn't know it was whacked sadly. And yes, you and Tac bringing Tom up at this time.

Loved the video, Pete! There is so much great information for parents like me. I am a passionate soccer fan who had been struggling to properly share that passion with my 7 year old son. Now, I believe I have the proper tools and information. Thanks!

At the end of the day, it's never really about soccer/sports, it's just about a loving, attentive, supportive relationship between a child and their family. And whatever interest the parents have will introduce itself to the child and the child will make their own decision as they grow. It's honestly very simple when broken down, but sadly, to have a good family environment is a privilege that not every child is lucky enough to have growing up. Another position to think about soccer culture is that in a lot of other struggling countries, soccer as the main sport is presented as a pathway and their only accessible chance out of poverty.

Soccer starts at Home. This single concept is what will bring a World Cup to the USA.

I don't even know if US can match South Korea let alone Japan. Also, you know Gio Reyna had a soccer ball in the crib.

I don't know if it's even realistic but here in the US they have to get rid of that pay for play that by itself severely limits the player pool and fosters the whole nepotism and politicking that's a big part of the problem

Tom buyer does a lot of self promotion. An excellent salesman!!! Makes me not fully trust his message. From his perspective, every club, and soccer organization needs to hire him and adopt his ideology .

We’re never going to be until less fortunate people start playing en masse. We need hunger.

99.9% of kids playing basketball, football, baseball won't play in the pros. As soccer is seen more as a potential avenue to professional play, more kids will play. US players now playing in the EPL, SerieA, LA liga, even mls all helps.

Why? They’ve never been past the Last 16 and have an awful record at 2 Copa Americas. Their players aren’t the best on their clubs either

In the end until kids under 8 are kicking balls around instead of bouncing and throwing and hitting balls we wont get there.

It starts with getting rid of Gregg. Still not a single signature win. Only a 0-0 draw with England and a scrappy 1-0 against Iran. Terrible terrible coach. This is our best ever talent the US has ever produced and its being wasted.

I remember watching the original interview while on a flight. I think Japan is a bit overhyped. If we faced them at the World Cup, I am confident we would defeat them.

Americans and most of your viewers most support the soccer that Tom promotes which is just one-to-two touch soccer. Your followers and you relentlessly mocked Sebastian Lletget and now Djordje MIhailovic. You made up that Lletget "passed backwards" too much, even though you're supposed to pass back to keep possession. You guys wanted tons of forward passes or you wanted Musah to try to dribble forward 40 yards. Lletget was basically pinned to the sideline in a three-man midfield where our midfielders were 40 yards apart and where the opposition bunkered and had two midfielders marking Lletget and no U.S. players checked to the ball or made runs. LOL. Now you've mocked Mihailovic for having a few low percentage passes not squeak through the defense. It's a joke. You guys won't support real 1-2 touch soccer and you keep handing out passports to nobodies.
