@@WeatherWeasel66 Exactly what you are saying, is exactly what I also said in a different way. Lol! Please note, I also said as quoted, "...Including the 80's, 70's, 60's, 50's, etc." Peace...
I doubt anyone will read this, but when this song came out I had just turned 15 and had hair just like Tom in this video. Every time this song would come on MTV, this girl that I had a crush on would call my house phone to tell me she was thinking of me. Over 30 years later and nostalgia kicks in hard with this song. Every time I hear it I am taken back to 1992, simpler times, great time to be a teenager. No distractions from cell phones, bullying on social media, growing up too fast ect. My friend had a car and we would just cruise around other small towns with no idea what was happening, by luck we would find a town carnival, or dance at a fire hall. I had this song on cassette single and I am sure it was played hundreds of times that summer. Thanks for reading my late night flashback.
I totally forgot about this song until it was used in a user created room in Rec Room about a year ago. Thanks to that I was reintroduced to this song.
I'm listening to it, just went on a first date, with a guy from a dating dating site. Oh my Lord, is he a looker and good guy. What a date!!!!!!! Wow, think I'm in love❤
Damn straight, mate! It's still one of the first songs on my playlist whenever I make a long drive. I've got it timed so if I start the playlist as I leave my driveway, this song will kick in right about the time I'm heading down the ramp to get on the freeway, lol!
That's nothing. I'm too poor to afford a Driver's Licence where I live. You need an entire Tuition Fee to start taking provisional classes (with a yearly tax agreement on top, even if you don't own a car). That's one of the reasons why the Dutch prefer Trains and Bicycles.
This was me and my Uncle Frank’s favorite song to sing together. He passed away 2 days ago from complications of Parkinson’s. The lyrics have more meaning now more than ever. Miss you Uncle Frank!!! Thanks for riding the highway of life with me. Until we meet again in paradise ❤️
Summer of 1992. I am 18 years old, exchange student from Russia in Oregon, living in a farm-style house in a beautiful countryside. This song was everywhere at the time-on MTV, radio. Such a blast from the past.
@@PatrickRob82 Yes, though I visited the US on many occasions afterwards, that my first travel is the fondest memory of all. The Robisons ( no n in the middle) were an excellent host family, Wendy, their mom is an exceptional lady, I've not seen her since 1993, and I hope she is doing great as well as both her son's, Bill, the young one, and Michael. I don't think Darrell is still alive, due to his age, but if he is, I wish him best of luck. 02/03/24 an update- Darrell is alive, he is 91. Found the family. Google does wonders.
@UThink UCan easily best version in my opinion.... But fuck it maybe he didnt wanna be an artist like that maybe he just wanted to mess around and make tracks lol 💯
@Mr PolishI moved to Toronto after college and lived there for 25 years. I got out 5 years ago because it felt like everyone in Canada lived there and they were all grumpy because of it. 😄
I was too young when this was at least a hit to be able to buy my first cassette let alone CD... I heard it at local roller rink in the early 90's. I was trying to save my money for snow cones, candy and to play some X-Men and The Simpsons arcade games.
And it will still rock in 100 yrs from now as long as the younger generations don't become mesmerized by auto tune garbage im one of the younger people just taught about the right music from my parents!
Used to play this one on the way to the trails to go mountain biking back in the 90's First heard it while operating a follow spot light at a dance recital - one of the girls used this as the music for her number. Went out and bought the album the following day.
Used to sing it when I was 4 and it was new. It actually surprises people when this song is played. Not the type of music I normally listen too. But still love this song.
Yeah. It's probably weird that THIS is the version I remember. But there's a good reason; Rascal Flats' version lacks... soul? This version has more soul.
I experienced Tom in Kitchener in the downtown this past weekend...it was PACKED...people jammed in as far as you could see. They were AMAZING! The sound, the voice, the musicianship, the energy, crowd involvement...I have been to a lot of concerts but this was something else. He left nothing on the table...rocked it all show and the encore was incredible. Don't pass up a chance to see him live...better than ever!
I love the song Life is a highway and that's very true life is a highway just don't go down the wrong highway primarily what this song is about is life living life I know I made a lot of mistakes in my life I'm not alone in this great big world 🌎🌍 everyone makes mistakes Life is a highway think about it people
@Tom Cochrane Tom, this is a brilliant song! My guitar teacher just taught it to me yesterday and he was amazed how quickly I picked it up. I didn’t tell him I learned it years ago... the video really makes it, one if my favourites. It looks like you had a blast making it, and the best bit is you doing a little dance in the wilderness with your mouth organ. Genius. 💙
It has been a perfect playing for me having a lovely and awesome Fan like you, thanks for your love, I have you mostly to be thankful for🌹🌹🎶🎶🌹🌹🎶🎶🌹🌹🎶🎶🌹🌹
This is awesome when you play it driving down a major stretch of road with nothing but natural scenery surrounding you. It can be forest, mountains, desert, snow... anything will do :) The feeling you get is nothing short of spectacular!
Cody Bell I bet it would be. I'm not a biker, but man, seeing them, cruising along the country...I envy them! They just look like they're loving the whole experience!
Everything works in this song. The vocals are great-the lyrics are cool especially the gimmie gimmie and grab you-the guitar riffs are cool as crap and the drums are basting thru the whole song--then he hits you with the harmonica-a really classic that has held up thru the test of time.

At first I came here at first to see what the original was like after years of hearing the cars version, now I return here all the time because it’s just that good of a song and much better than the rascal flatts version or what ever there name was
This is one of the great rock songs of the 90's. As a young man back then, well, it's hard to explain, but it somehow filled me with passion, confidence & optimism everytime it came on the radio. Wonderful work, Tom.
Heard this on the radio this morning. We get some good stuff from Canada here in the USA. This song became popular the time my partner and I first became involved. After over 30 years, we still enjoy this good tune.
Life's like a road that you travel on When there's one day here and the next day gone Sometimes you bend and sometimes you stand Sometimes you turn your back to the wind There's a world outside every darkened door Where blues won't haunt you anymore Where the brave are free and lovers soar Come ride with me to the distant shore We won't hesitate To break down the garden gate There's not much time left today Life is a highway I wanna ride it all night long If you're going my way I wanna drive it all night long Through all these cities and all these towns It's in my blood, and it's all around I love you now like I loved you then This is the road, and these are the hands From Mozambique to those Memphis nights The Khyber Pass to Vancouver's lights Knock me down and back up again You're in my blood, I'm not a lonely man There's no load I can't hold A road so rough this I know I'll be there when the light comes in Just tell 'em we're survivors Life is a highway I wanna ride it all night long If you're going my way I wanna drive it all night long Gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme yeah Life is a highway I wanna ride it all night long If you're going my way I wanna drive it all night long There was a distance between you and I A misunderstanding once But now we look in the eye Ooh... yeah! There ain't no load that I can't hold A road so rough this I know I'll be there when the light comes in Just tell 'em we're survivors Life is a highway I wanna ride it all night long (All night long, yeah, yeah) If you're going my way I wanna drive it all night long Gimme, gimme, gimme, Gimme, gimme, yeah Life is a highway (Life is a highway) I wanna ride it all night long (ooh... yeah) If you're going my way (If you're going my way) I wanna drive it all night long (All night long, yeah. Come, on) Gimme, gimme, gimme, Gimme, gimme, gimme, yeah Life is a highway I wanna ride it all night long (Yeah, I wanna drive it all night long, baby) If you're going my way (If you're going my way) I wanna drive it all night long (All night long
Oh boy...this was MY song in '92...i was 18, had just passed my driving license and my dad gave me his old car... this song played on repeat on the old cassette deck whenever i drove it...it just fit my feelings at this time... damn, i miss these times and i especially miss this car!
I'm so happy that this song exists. Its one of the best songs ever written and I truly believe that. I've liked it since I was a little kid, and still love it today.
If Gordon Ramsey grew out his hair, didn't chef and followed his most depest ambitions of becoming a slick-ass rock star. He wouldn't be this guy because this is Tom FUCKING Cochrane!
sinEkill actually I think he looks more like Mike Smith who plays Bubbles on Trailer Park Boys. Not the charecter Bubbles, the actually actor ;) Check him out when he isn't 'in charecter' and you'll see what I mean!
I was 4-5 years old when this song came out! Still listen to it regularly. I graduated high-school in 2005 and this is the song my grad class chose for our graduation song!
