Whoever cast Tom Cruise in Taps knew what they were doing, he has the right blend of craziness behind his eyes but the niceness in his smile + good acting ability that made playing the psycho red beret in that movie perfect for him.
@@ronnyber Larry king didn't let him finish the story, other interviewers asked about his memories specifically, the Chinese one was to teach encourage audience. the story was always relevant.
I loved Taps for what it was. At the time I just completed my 3 year enlistment in the US Army, and in 1982 I started college in an ROTC Program to become an Army Officer. As a vet I knew this film was fantasy, but I still really enjoyed the acting. LMAO, oh I took one scene from the movie, sort of, when I was in ROTC. If you recall in that last meeting with George C Scott's character, the outgoing cadet major asked him how he kept from being afraid in battle. Well I was at this formal military dinner and I was seated at the same table with the guest speaker, I believe a brigadier general, and I asked that very question. Actually I didn't so much take it from the movie, I really wanted to know from this senior officer's perspective who was a veteran of many combat experiences. He gave a very insightful answer to a young cadet, but again Taps as a movie was fantasy, when I was commissioned as an Regular Army Officer a couple years later it was reality 😎
