I remember watching this video when it went viral. I was 12, sat on the floor in my bedroom and I cried. I'd completely forgotten about that moment until I watched you in Marcus Butler's video about Hello World Tour. I cried because I was a confused teen and you were someone I looked up to massively. I remember feeling an almost relief that I wasn't alone. I was scared of my parent's reactions at the time. Now it's been nearly 2 years since I came out as gay and I've never felt so free in my life. Thank you Tom
So proud of you. Being yourself unapologetically is one of the bravest things you can do. You don't know how many lives you will change by doing this. Congratulations.
2013: "I'm gay" 2017: *Marries Lance* 2018: *Expecting a baby boy* I'm so proud of how far you have come Tom thank you for always being yourself!❤️❤️❤️🌈🌈🌈🌈
The fact that he was only 19 when he posted this and that this was the way he responded was absolutely amazing at the level of maturity he had and it really shows who's mature (tom) and who's not ( all the shallow low life haters hiding behind a RU-vid acc in the comments) I hope everyone can support him cuz it takes his to do this but if he's happy surely we as his fans should be too. X
That's the point everybody, no exception, should always make!! It's tiring having to address this issue everyday making us feel different, like freaks. "- Do you know Tom? Yeah, I heard he's GAY." Maybe soon we'll hear: "- Do you know, Tom? Yes, he's an amazing English Olympic medalist in diving... He won a gold medal in Tokyo 2021". Things will change, let's hope!
Are u kids? Really? Shagging, they love each other, they even have a kid together, and they might have been problems between them, which is totally normal, but they are adult enough to surpass those problems. So please be mature, and if you want to criticise them, think about better arguments.
4 years later and you're once again the diving world champion, happily married to the man of your dreams, and still the same sweet and overall adorable guy. Tom, I will continue to support you through everything❤️ much love from the US to you ❤️❤️❤️
@@thatweirdscienceguy9880 yeah so men and women can procreate and that's natural homosexual adoption means the child is not being raised in a normal home and missing a mother's influence
i’m watching this in august 2021, so at this point, Tom is married! and has a kid! and a newly-won gold medal. anyway. i know i’m super late to this video, but it brought such a smile to my face even still. congrats on all the things. i doubt you’ll see this, Tom, but if you do...just know that this video is still evoking smiles even (checks caption) 7 years later 🌈
Same with me. I just started watching his videos and I’m obsessed with how adorable Robbie is, how much love they have for each other and their banter and humor.
Who is watching in 2019 when Tom and Lance have been married for 2 years and have a little boy named Robbie. Congrats for being u and keep doing what makes u happy
i cannot believe that we live in the 21st century, yet people still disrespect others for being who they are. people who watch this video and comment something homophobic should be ashamed of themselves. i am so incredibly proud of you Tom. You're such a huge inspiration to thousands of people and you deserve nothing but the best.
when i was 14, i remember watching this video and thinking to myself " WOW i can be gay and happy", and now im 20 and i just feel free and safe. I just want to thank you for your words and for making that 14 year old boy feel safer and understood
Lorenshyne Yo, what he likes or doesn't like is his business and no one elses, my respect to him is purely because of the fact that he chose himself to come out and say this knowing fully well that people would judge him (like you're demonstrating) and he was fully ready to accept the consequences...that's not easy to do.
***** wow toby, i watch and love your video and i find that you saying this makes me think that you are so much more of an amazing person than what you portray in your videos i do really respect you
it's always a hard and difficult process to go through, but you will be a source of inspiration to that many more people around the world. i'm in awe of you.
You are the one person I mostly expected a reaction from Will :) ! Fangirling balanced with what's important here and that's the impact this can have to so many teens around the globe.
I’m here after almost 8 years and that’s amazing to realize that all your dreams came true: that guy you’re talking about is now your husband and dad of your little Robbie and you’ve also won that olympic gold medal you’ve always desired... what an incredible journey! I have to tell honestly that you are one of the most precious and pure soul I’ve ever “met” in my life, seeing that you’re now surrounded by the people you love that make you over the moon day by day really makes me emotional, because you deserve it all and all the most beautiful things life can offer. Love you Tom, you’re the best ♥️
Look back on this video mate, the way you almost felt you had to come out and justify and explain your own fucking sexuality to appease the masses when it's nobody's damn business........today, OLYMPIC CHAMPION! Well done.
I think the entire gay community on RU-vid is so happy about this. The way you talk about sexuality is just so fluid, and honestly, that's just how it should be. I absolutely love this.
these comments are making me cry so much. to those of you saying that God hates gays or anyone for that matter you clearly have never read the Bible. God loves all of his children and gays and bisexual and anyone in the lgbtq community can have a loving relationship as much as any straight person. at the very least can people keep their comments pg please? all of these comments with sexual expletives are just disgusting. your children could see this video as many people look up to Tom and seeing these comments could be very traumatic. if you wouldn't say it to the Queen's face, don't say it on RU-vid
Manny Akpan oh I'm sorry, do you go to church every week even as a member of the lgbtq + community?? Do you?? If you do then I apologise because clearly you know more about my religion than I do. Clearly you have studied the Bible and pondered it's word. My sincere apologies if you have done this every week for over 5 years
To all the people who just watched this video after Tom won gold medal in Tokyo 2020, welcome!!! Hope you get attached and love his family too like me.
this is me. Just been a week of falling in love with him, lance, robbie, their extended family, friends like sophie and teammates like matty and grace haha
Yes I’ve spent the last week watching videos and falling insanely in love with Robbie who is the luckiest little guy on the planet! He has the best dads ever and it puts a smile on my face every day knowing they can happily and safely live this life!
It's 2021, and all of us are very happy and proud of you that you are now a father, a Gold medalist at the Olympics and a happily married man. Making the decision to come out and marry the man that you love will surpass all the Gold medals in the world. Wishing you love and happiness always...
Tom, just wanted to reiterate what a inspiration you have been to many people here in the states. You have been a role model to me as a swimmer and now as human being. You are beautiful inside and out and your heart is pure. Whoever your solemate is will be one lucky guy as you have so much to offer and what I see from you it is complete honesty and a wonderful guy. Best to you again in the upcoming games. We here in America will have many supporters in your corner. You will never be or ever have to feel alone again as you are simply amazing Tom.
It pissed me off hearing this on the news. Obviously it's good for him that he's now comfortable about this being public, but like he said, it shouldn't matter. People shouldn't care so much, it's not a big fucking deal.
I disagree, every time someone comes out it should be celebrated, not only because of how brave it is but also because it inspires other closeted homosexuals to come out.
I sort of disagree with you, it was celebrated enough, because the times called for it, but it should be a normal thing now, people shouldn't feel the need to make a big coming out, everyone should feel like it doesn't matter at all (Of course, depends on how you live your life, if you feel the need, go as marvellous as possible, let them hate). Like he said, no one is affected by the gender of your significant other, so no one should care about anything but if you are happy or not. And he wouldn't have seen the need to make this video, if he hadn't known for some reason media and some people would react big on it. Even having relatives telling him to keep it a secret. The world needs to evolve to not needing coming outs anymore. You need to figure out yourself and maybe come out to you, tell your friends and family, so they'll get the appropriate gag gifts for your 18th birthday, that's important. But society should know by now, that there are straight people, gay people, bisexuals and lots more, what's the big thing. You figure out what you like and what you're comfortable with and if you're getting into relationships with men, women, non-binary, whatever, who cares. If they wanted a head line, it should've been "Tom Daley is not single anymore, bury your dreams everyone". Not "OMG Tom Daley is gay/dating a male person". The industrial countries at least should've come over this, everyone can celebrate their sexuality, if they want to, but everyone should be allowed to live their life with no more focus on their sexuality than on anyone elses sexuality. That would help closeted people more (imo), knowing they are as normal as anyone else and no one will judge them and they'll get the same reaction on a same-sex-partner, than they'll get on a other-sex-partner, without having to explain themselves. /end rant
I just heard of this guy from watching the olympics. And I’m watching this video after watching his winning dive. This puts such a human side to the gold medalist. You’re a good man
You deserve so much respect. Coming out in your positions must be even harder than it normally is. People like you show that gay people are no different than the rest and that they as well can be exceptionally good in sports. Good luck in Brazil!
I'm watching this for the first time in 2018 after he and Lance got married last year....and I can't imagine Tom without Lance. They are perfect for each other no matter what anyone else says
Bible is just a book written by men in a totally different era, when there were no human rights. It supports slavery, says that women should not speak in church and they should wear a veil. People ignore many parts because unjust to the present day, and use the parts they like as an excuse to discriminate against people who do not do anything wrong. This is the true and it is unfair, not love between two people.
This video is 10 years old. Tom has just won silver at the Paris 2024 Olympics in front of his two sons and his husband Lance, the man he was talking about in this video. This is proof success can be the reward if you are true to yourself.
Almost 7 years from this and Im still coming back to remember who was I when I first saw it, you've touched me back as a kid when I didnt thought that a gay guy can become a champion. You inspired me and I have come so far because of a lot of great people but I don't think you know the extent at which you've helped and become an aspirational model at that time for me and im sure that many other scared kids out there watching this video at night, hidden and just hopping someday they'll have the courage to be who they are.
Hi Eduardo! Such a powerful message. I am working on a short film about Tom - let me know if you receive this message, ok? Would love to talk to you about this wonderful message and hopefully including it in some way. Thanks, Tim
Tom, I`m just working my way through your "coming up for air" book, i cried when i felt your relief at coming out to your grandparents, I came out at 18 in May 2002, My parents sisters and their boyfriends and husbands know, I never got to physically say to my grandparents that I`m gay, When in 2010 I had my first "official" boyfriend I made a huge coming out post on facebook and the love I received because of it made me wish I had come out the WORLD (rest of my family) sooner. I can still say hand on heart that coming out for me was the absolute best thing I have ever done.......... Best Wishes to you and Lance and Robbie in 2022... ps you are a beautiful man xx
Tom, You probably won't see this msg, I just wanna tell you that i support you and will still continually adore you. You're the bravest and most honest person i've ever seen. Be tough. Be happy. Love.
Tom simly said, that he fell in love with another human being who is also in love with him, which is like the best and luckiest thing that can happen. I don't understand, where all these weird discussions and subjects come from. I thought it says: Live and let live... Btw I really like this duvet cover!
I feel so blessed to have seen Tom from this video out here aging almost 8 yrs to now when he's the Olympic Champion, married to his best man Lance and Papa of li'l Robbie! What a journey it is❤❤
Watching this 7 years later AFTER watching countless videos of you and Lance and Robbie.. it’s truly amazing to see what a wonderful husband and father you are!! Like you said, this really shouldn’t matter at all! Watching you win an Olympic gold and more importantly seeing you so happy and content makes me so happy and proud :’) Congrats on everything you’ve achieved so far!! You’re a true inspiration, Tom 💙
I remember watching this in real time in 2013 and admiring you so much. And now, I just watched the video you posted about how you met Lance….and I couldn’t be happier. Good humans like you are rare and I’m happy to be on this journey with you. Thanks for sharing! 🥰
Being gay is natural like having red hair or a small penis. Religion is manmade, although our weakness for religion is natural too. We are a product of nature, so you could argue that all things are natural.
Drew Graham Our brains are wired for religion. Our brains are natural, having evolved over millions of years out in the bush. And look at every tribe in Africa or South America today. They all have some kind of mythology.
I’m only just watching this for the first time now.... I’ve been a fan and supported you for many years and I’ve only ever known you to be with Lance! I could only imagine how terrifying it would of been hitting publish on this video and waiting for the response of your fans! I wish I saw this when it was posted so I could give you a virtual hug for all your braveness.... I have so much respect for you to just jump off the platform..... and now my respect has only gotten bigger towards you! You should be 100% proud of all the barriers you’ve broken down from this point and looking at this now when your about to introduce a child to your life brings a tear of happiness to my eye 💝
revisited this video just because it popped up on my main youtube screen. and I felt as loving and caring as the first time I'd watched it back in the day. hope you're still as happy as this day. wish you and Lance and rest of your families a happy and healthy life.
I'm known to blurt things out when I have something to say, so I'm going to blurt "hooray Tom!". Interestingly, "Blurt hooray Tom" just happens to be an anagram of "Arthur Lobotomy".
For every single homophobic ne'er-do-well who has 'disliked' this video from Tom, there are now 20 civilised members of our society who have 'liked' the video. Definition, 'Ne'er-do-well': "Someone who is a little shitty fucker, full of mischief." (Urban Dictionary). I feel the above definition accurately describes the two resident multi-channel trolls here; "Captain America" and "Arthur Lobotomy".
Watching this 7 years later, just a day ago you won a bronze medal in 10 meter diving. What to tell you, you have had a hard and wonderful journey in these 7 years and I can only say that I admire you, I love the wonderful human being that you are and how fantastic your life with your family looks like. You are a star, one of the best things that has happened to me when watching these Olympic Games has been being able to connect with someone like you. You are the best, I send you a big hug 🤍
To the person who has made about 20 fake accounts and made disrespectful and disgusting comments on this video: Congratulations, you have wasted precious time of your life being useless and irrelevant to the world. You can go on and fill your life with hate and bitterness or you can decide that your life and the life of others is to precious to waste it to things like that. If everyone who spreads hate instead used this time to spread love or to help others in need, the world would look entirely different. Just think about that. Have a nice day (and that's also partly your decision).
Dear Tom, I am currently reading your book Coming Up For Air and I thought it was incredibly important for me to watch this video as it so integral to who are. I am moved by your story, your journey through life so far, and I couldn’t be happier for you, Lance and your son 💙
Congratulations on your relationship and massively proud of you for being brave enough to come out! You're incredible and I couldn't be happier for you!
Lord Of The Rings star Sir Ian McKellen has been given the freedom of the City of London in recognition of his work for gay rights. The actor, who plays Gandalf in Peter Jackson's film trilogy, is one of the founders of campaign group Stonewall UK and also supports Pride London. Lord Mayor Fiona Woolf called him an "exceptional actor" and a "tireless campaigner for equality". He was handed the award, dating back to 1237, at London's Guildhall. Sir Ian also supports The Albert Kennedy Trust which helps homeless lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youngsters.
After seeing your other vlog with ur husband Lance and your son Robbie..today I'm watching dis video..I feel so happy for all your achievements and the bond you have with Lance..seven years ago u felt safe with Lance and it continues..
The best thing in life is to be true to yourself and to be honest with others. Don't keep a false image to make others happy. Honesty is valuable. That's how you do it. No matter what the news are or how hard they can impact others, the truth is the truth… and it is always welcome. Kudos, Tom!
7 years later, I'm seeing this video. I think it's brave of you to accept who you are. When you want people to know the real you and be there for you. It's amazing to know your friends and family care about you. Here's the thing! don't listen to anyone who judges you, but listen to what will make you happy. I've always thought that it's better for someone to accept who they are, as to know your true friends, who will walk with you, support you and Guide you till the end. I'm so proud of you!!
Good for you Tom, and as far as I'm concerned your personal life is just that personal, doesn't matter who you date or who you love, just be happy..very proud that you did this, but at the same time the important ones are your family and close friends that's your support..you fans will always love and adore you.
Child you knew...I knew as soon as your started talking. And why would someone thing you are lying about the fact you like men.BTW you are sexy and goodluck getting your gold.
he's probably nervous because he knows it's going to be a big media cluster-f#@k for the next few weeks.. the way the american media will react you'll think he announced he was an alien from another galaxy, and since he's going to be coming to the u.s. this month, he's probably just nervous about that..
And now you are a gold medalist, an Olympic champion, a husband of the man you're talking about in this video and a proud father! ❤😍 You truly are an inspiration, Tom! Best of luck to you and your wondeful family!
Thank you for being so open and honest to everyone. I am so sorry about your loss of your dad but i really look up to u because you have the right mentality to keep striving foward no matter what. So know that therr are always people out here supporting you and even your amazing family so good luck in everything you do!!
Just cause he is into guys doesn't mean he is gay. It just means that a woman failed to steal his heart. People need to realize that once you get rid of labels then it makes things easier. Nobody is fully straight. Once you open your mind you'll realize that you may connect and fall in love with people of the same sex. He is happy with his boyfriend so let him be. Maybe he'll have more girlfriends or boyfriends. It's all based on who steals his heart. People aren't accepting guys who end up with another guy. Being bi is fine. Stop worrying about if he is gay or not.
I'm so proud of you, Tom. Your sexuality shouldn't be such a big deal in 2013, but sadly it is. You will be an inspiration to a lot of people. Much love from The Netherlands!
