Growing up, Tom never knew another person with his condition who had overcome the challenges he had to face to show him that it could be done. That wasn't enough to stop him, however. Tom acknowledges that everything is hard to a degree and that he and others with similar conditions face challenges daily, but refuses to accept that there is anything he can't achieve. He may have to go about working through his challenges differently than others, but by no means does this mean they are any less conquerable.
