Considering how skilled a filmmaker Tom Ford is, I'm surprised that he didn't start off in that career sooner.

Some people are born talented with this creativity. Tom Ford is one of those. He is a creative genius

I feel like Tom has gone through something similar, in my opinion that’s why he’s so passionate about it when he talks about the movie.

A lot of directors (an authors in general) talk about their life throughs their movies, pictures, books, etc

I think the urban, slightly effete Texan returning to his place of origin and feeling somewhay alienated from and intimidated by the local rowdies is inspired by his personal experience

When I watched this I had no idea Tom Ford was behind it. This film is a masterpiece. Beautifully symmetrical storytelling, and absolutely masterful building of tension and discomfort.

Ita pretty clear that Tom sees himself when he talks about Edward. He is Tom. Sensitive, very ambitious but soft, not the crazy 'I'll do whatever it takes to get money' ambition but 'This is my dream and I believe in myself and I'm gonna do it' ambition.

Michael Shannon absolutely stole this movie for me. Toward the middle I would get upset while Edward's story was taking place & it would keep jumping back to Susan grieving her decisions that lead to her unhappiness... I almost feel like I watched a great movie within a movie about how sad the great movie made Amy's character. Lol but overall, I really enjoyed it. One of those films you just keep thinking about after you watch it. Tons of subtlety & symbolism that I think would make for a great second watch, as I'm sure I didn't pick up on much of it.

Probably in the minority here but I found the film overly pretentious and over written and self indulgent.....but it was well shot.and well acted.

This movie sucks! Perverse opening images, dark tone, plodding story development, cliche snot nose daughter, and oh my West Texas highway punks. What movie formula app was used to write this junk?

Actually it was based on Austin Wright’s 1993 novel "Tony and Susan".

I disagree, it's a well-crafted masterpiece.
