When feeding raw it is very important that you feed fruits and vegetables as a fiber source. A lot of people think wolves don’t need fiber so domesticated dogs don’t need it either but that is not true! When a wolf is eating the stomach of a deer or elk they are getting plenty of fiber. Next time you get a deer open up the stomach and you will see nothing but greens, fruits, and corn.

My dog from you is just over a year old Samson (Ray Lewis x Claire breeding) and he is already the best dog I’ve ever had as far as listening, being around my kids and catching Hogs! I love the dog. Could already tell you stories of him proving himself. Just wanna say thank you! I feed the valu pak and occasional raw chicken leg quarter. He is already a beast, I guess I will add some rf1 to help keep him in top shape at all times.

Feeding raw has evolved gentlemen. It’s easy to feed raw nowadays, they got PMR grinds that consist of whole animals ground up or 80-10-10 raw grind etc.

I'm loving this series gentlemen. Thank you again! Very well balanced between speaking to a young man, but in depth enough for us that's been in it. 😂 I'd like to hear Tom's opinion and advice on peaking a dog? That last 72 hours. And is it sustainable for a short period of time? Etc.

Yes, I would be curious as to Mr. Garners suggestions about treadmill workout routines (Slat Mill, Carpet Mill and E-mill). Could he include times or distances to eventually shoot for based on his experience. I would also like to hear his opinions on weighted collars and vest. More to the point if loaded correctly are they the best option that can increase explosiveness without adding a lot of size? This would be for the sports of Wall Climb and/or Dock Jump where additional explosive strength without a lot of size/weight would be of great benefit. I've heard others opinions on bands, chains, weighted collars and weight vest so I would really like to hear his. Thank you

Great video. I'd like to listen to do some deeper dives into the specific topics. Feeding the dog as you work him. Feeding today is prepping for tomorrow concept, maybe as deep as feeding today if tomorrow is going to be a strength day or a stamina day or both. And where to adjust when resting. Also a deeper dive into using "wolves" and how they eat to justify how to or how not to feed a working dog. Polar opposites. The wolves are eating to survive, not thrive. A wolf will make a kill, eat like a "king" and then lay around fat dumb and happy. When that hunger pang hits he will start the process over but still semi-fat, dumb and happy. He will miss and when he tunes himself thru hunger while burning calories, he will sharpen til he makes the kill, or starves to death. Fueling the working dog can be similar in principle but not in timing and actual nutrients gathered. Again, polar opposites. Great video still. Keep them coming.

What is the best method to have glycogen stores at their maximum before going into strenuous acticity?
@tomgarner54
@tomgarner54 3 месяца назад
Deplete, then load in the presence of abundant B-complex vitamins.
@davebarry4647
@davebarry4647 3 месяца назад
@@tomgarner54 I'm considering human physiology and applying it to dogs in addition to what TG stated. If your goal is to super-load glycogen stores in the liver and muscle, I'd include exercise (not exhaustive; however) during the depletion phase since your body will increase carbohydrate uptake at an accelerated rate for 2-3 hours (time may be diff. for dogs) post-exercise. Any intake of carbohydrates that are not needed immediately will be stored in the liver/muscles, with each 1 gram of glycogen attracting about 3 grams of water per glycogen molecule. Add the abundant amount of B-complex vitamins, along with carbohydrates, as TG stated. Also, it's vital to optimize/spare protein (TG suggests 1-2 grams/lb/bw/day) intake for repair and recovery so protein is not converted to glucose by the process of gluconeogenesis to be used for energy if not enough carbs are consumed post-exercise. **I'd attempt to have my glycogen reserves optimized by Wed or Thur at the latest so that muscle inflammation will decrease (during off-day/recovery) and will cause a water drop, IMO, before the day of the event (Saturday, for example).

Potential questions that Tom or Brad could give a brief or detailed reply to: 1. How would you train (not including food) a dog for a wall-climbing event that has a current score of: S-6, E-9, and P-6 2. If a dog had minimal exercise during the winter and we wanted to get him/her ready for a hog hunt, what would be your 3 primary objectives for a dog with the same attributes above:. S-6, E-9, and P-6? 3. What dog shampoo and conditioner (if you use one) do you use for your dogs? 4. Name 5 essential meds that every dogman should keep on hand? 5. If you take your dog outside (during warm/humid weather), and the dog is performing strength and conditioning, are there any specific guidelines for hydration/rehydration? a. Should we attempt to hydrate the dog 1/2-1 hour before training? b. Should we bring water and offer it to the dog at regular intervals? c. Should we use their tongue (curled up, hanging to the side, foamy) to guide the Dogman when to hydrate/slow down exercise? Could you explain what sign to expect if your dog is overheating, such as a foamy tongue?

That’s a big question answered? Maybe. There’s a body of literature that suggests dogs store only a minuscule amount of glycogen and unlike humans they can hit and maintain high performance on fat metabolism.

I just spent a few hours comparing Vertex and many others to RF-1 and there is NO comparison at all. I was unaware of RF-1 however I will be using it now and there is no product that includes everything RF-1 does plus the price is superior. I've used creatine monohydrate and amino acids for some time but this RF-1 blend is amazing.

I'm interested in hearing about the frequency of use of maltodextrin and liver in a per week unit. Are there precautions we need to take to avoid the overuse of these things. Also, is there a recommendation to stop the use of creatine monohydrate prior to event to curb water retention? And lastly, for now, because very little has been said about water, do you recommend adding water to your kibble and RF1 and if so, in approximately what amount, 1 cup ...etc. Thanks, Punky Garner.😊

The number one question should pertain to moisture. The sled dog ( Iditarod) people water and feed all at once. The next thing is, should we manipulate the dog into taking in more fluid.
@tomgarner54
@tomgarner54 3 месяца назад
Monitor the dog's hydration level by checking wetness between upper lip and gum. If consistently wet, dog is self-regulating hydration properly. If tacky, force water consumption by adding water to food.
