I was relaxing with one of my favorite sports games of all time - Ken Griffey Jr. presents Major League Baseball on the Super Nintendo - when this happened..... Go Braves!!!
Matthew J. Boone Nice. I've played several complete 162-game seasons and never get tired of it! You like how I changed every player's name to the real player's name at that time? That took forever.
Me too! Me too! Bonus points, I never owned the game or the system. I had to rent the SNES from blockbuster when my mom wanted to treat me and my brother, which means the couple times I rented this game I might have named all the players just so I could play it like that for 2 days and then return it. But I def have all the players named on my emulated version of the game now.
Nice. The ol "two controller perfect game" 😂😂😂 I've played this A TON on SNES and emulators. There is NO FUCKING WAY the CPU is swinging at those pitches from Glavine.
There is no way for me to prove it, but this was a one player, one controller game. As confirmed by other players, it’s not impossible and not an especially rare thing. I did play about 4 full seasons before I did it for the first time though.
I remember I spent days and days making every roster with the correct names as possible from F1 pro sports baseball magazine. I remember just one day I took the game over to a friend's house and everything was gone got to love that battery memory save you never know
I pitched a ridiculous amount of one hitters in this game including several into the 9th, I didn’t think it was possible to actually get the Nono/perfecto (really the same thing in this game since walks never happen and there’s no errors) against the computer
Yeah same here! i played 3-4 full seasons (w the Chi Sox) & more than a dozen times would throw 1 hitters usually broken up in the 9th. Rom knowledge was basically unknown at that time but I was sure there was something programmed in to keep you from a perfect game or no hitter. I was so close so many times no way did it seem like a coincidence ! - Don’t think i ever got the 2nd Snes one (winning run) but both for n64 played constantly!!
Jim Kaat used to say that Tom Glavine "lived on low and away avenue" but this is taking it to a whole new level. Did you have any fun throwing the same pitch to every hitter and getting the same result for the whole game? This is just spamming the shit out of an unhittable slider/screwball away to an AI that doesn't know any better than to think they can hit it. Also on offense you really need to have your baserunners take leads or you'll keep getting forced out on the basepaths. Y gives them a step off the base I believe. I like to give them 3 steps. This game with all its speed and quick throws, may be the most defense-friendly baseball game ever and baserunners get eaten alive routinely.
Unfortunately you're wrong, it's not unhittable. They can in fact hit homeruns, doubles, and even the occasional triple off of it. I wish it was though because then I could have a good season but go try that shit with Nagy or Mesa and get back to me.
I wish Javy was actually in this game! That’s Damon Berryhill, but thinking about it now, he didn’t sign with the Braves until 1994. All the online rosters have Berryhill on this roster, so I’ll need to look into this….
Great game play!! Congrats.. were you playing with someone else or you were playing vs the cpu.. all those strikes outs you had on the Perfect Game? The cpu went after all those balls.. lol.
innoutraged Yesssss. I mean, really, if a guy keeps throwing pitches out of the zone, you stop swinging. They also have poor judgement about which base to throw to. One helped me throw the perfect game, the other helped me score the runs needed to win.
LoL! I used to pitch the same way with Glavine back in the day. Threw a lot of no hitters but rarely got the perfect game. I'd usually walk someone before it was over. Let me guess... Fred's homerun count reset to 0 after the All-star break? lol
In the 1980's commodore 128 had a baseball game called Hardball, all had two artificial teams and names, but to throw a no hitter, you either throw high and in or far outside and the computer wiffs
Very well done. I use this pitching technique as well but don't get near the effectiveness with my Indians pitchers, they still crank homers and doubles off me which pisses me off. I feel like the Tribe is pretty bad on this game but that's been my team for decades so I'm not using anybody else. Anyways, nice job!
Thanks a ton for watching! Yeah, I'm fortunate that my favorite team is the Braves and they have an amazing pitching staff in this game. I love the dedication to your team, just like mine with the Braves. Sorry about 1995! Thanks again for watching!
1995 was a great series but sadly we fell short in game 6. After losing so many in a row the Braves deserved it. That was actually the year I became a Tribe fan. We got Dave Justice (who hit that HR to beat us) from ATL shortly after that and went back but blew game 7 in 1997....and then 2016 we blew 3-1, among many other playoff collapses. Needless to say it's been rough. But it's still Go Tribe!
For pitching, I recommend doing as I have done here with any pitcher. Throw a slow slider (hold up on the D-pad as you throw, then hard left or right depending on the handedness of the batter) away from the batter. There will be batters that take you to a 3-ball count and you will need to decide: walk 'em or throw them strikes. If I throw them strikes, I generally try to jam them inside. For batting, it's all about batter placement. I typically have all of my batters up (closer to the pitcher) in the box. Then, I test-swing to adjust placement left-to-right. I look for the fattest part of my bat to be half-hanging over the outside edge of home plate. As the pitcher throws, sometimes the pitches are too fast to adjust your left-to-right position, but this placement allows for you to get good wood on any strike. If the pitch is slower, you can adjust your player left or right to put the best part of the bat on the ball. I know it's hard to describe in words, but this method has served me well. Now, I'm trying a technique where I stand very close to the plate. The results are good so far and I will continue to refine. The idea is that most players tend to swing early. Anyway, the method I described above has yielded seasons of 128-34, 130-32, etc.. Keep in mind, though, that I chose the Braves. This team has amazing pitching and great power. Not to brag, either, but my defense is really good too. In time you will learn all of the patterns that the ball takes. I hope this helps!
I had this game for Game Boy and pitched the same way. It was hilarious how the AI was so bad, the batters fell for it and swung 98% of the time. Of course there was always one guy late in the game that would hit a homerun somehow, but generally it worked. I won the World Series like this.
