Fred Rogers was a genius. He got it, he really understood kids. I want to see this movie because 1. it's about Fred Rogers and 2. Tom Hanks is playing him. I know though without a doubt I'll be crying my eyes out.
Mr Rogers is not resting. Believers in the Lord are in God's PRESENCE when they are "absent from the body" [ #2Corinthians5:8 ] worshipping around the Throne, singing with the Angels, hanging out in the beautiful homes prepared for them, talking and laughing with those who are there, eating Angel food....
You can see how teary the director feels by just even talking about Fred rogers,Fred is close to so many people’s heart,I cried watching this trailer,I cried watching the documentary,I’ll cry watching the movie
It looks like he didn't go for a straight up impersonation of his voice and everything. He captured the spirit of his attitude though and that's what counts.
@@tyvulpintaur2732 that's true too, but that's where the faith part comes in. Personally every atheist who used to be religious that I've spoken to about it has said that they walked away because of the hypocrisy. You can have your own personal belief in god A, B, or C, but if the other people in the religion aren't actually following in the beliefs or even the "spirit" or idea of the religion it makes it very difficult to be a part of that organization. For example, the pastor who cheats on his wife, but then gets up every Sunday to condemn that very act isn't really someone who you are going to listen to. I walked away from mine when I realized that there was an underlying subtle hatred of anyone deemed "different." Christians in particular should be Christ like, right? Helping their fellow man, helping the needy, tending the sick, etc. Yet most are massively self centered and think that simple belief in their God somehow puts them on a pedestal above the masses, while never sacrificing or doing a single "Good works" that helps anyone other than themselves or those close to them. Now, I'm not saying that they should be going out and spending every dollar they have to help others, but the arrogance they seem to hold toward others of "lesser station" or people who have made mistakes in their past just turned me off to the whole thing. Nowadays after reading many different religious texts I would say I lean more toward Buddhism than any other organized religion, mostly because it is about improvement of self, and thru that improvement of your surroundings and community. But that's just leaning, not really going full dive. Sorry about the paragraph lol
And he's at the perfect time in his life to play the role. If they wanted to make this movie in 1992 that Tom wouldn't have been old enough to play the role yet.
What I love about Fred Rogers is his genuine caring about the world. Mr. Rogers (his entire life, philosophy, & body of work) has always been an integral part of my life. (Born in 1980). I've said for years that he is not only America's favorite neighbor, but most respected teacher, and role model. Basically, to me, he's America's Dali Lama. American/Christian Fred Rogers = Tibetan/Buddhist Dali Lama. It's all about compassion for the world and your fellow human beings.
People are forgetting to praise the performance of the main character of the movie, Matthew Rhys as Lloyd. The gap he had to fill in and achieve being beside Tom Hanks, let alone an American accent during emotional scenes are magnificent, I forgot that I was watching a movie. Great performance from him. 👏
Honestly... Tom Hanks is a better actor than I thought because he was an entire ass in this interview... and revealed himself to be nothing like the person he was playing. He went out of his way at the beginning of everything he said to remind us that Fred’s show was just speaking to 2-5 year olds. I’ll have you know, sir, that the previews to this movie have stirred many of us up because we need something that feels pure and wholesome and right in this screwed up world right now. It appeals to kids and adults alike. We were also mesmerized in your acting ability, which again, proves of even more technical prowess than I thought because you really don’t feel anything he did nor admire him like so many of us
He made my childhood better, I grew up on Mr. Rogers and he was so wonderful, good and kind. I remember feeling love and admiration for him when watching and when I see a clip of his show I cannot help but smile with sweet memories. Can't wait to see this movie!
Fred Rogers may be the closest thing to a "Christ-like" figure that anyone alive right now will ever know of. This was a man who genuinely cared for others and sought the good and humanity in absolutely everyone. There wasn't an ounce of judgment in his body. He lived to foster understanding and in particular to assure those just starting to become aware of themselves as individual people (ie - young kids) that their feelings mattered and were important. And not in a participation trophy, everything's ok kind of way. But just in acknowledging the fundamental truth that we are all beings created with fundamental similarities and we all benefit from knowing that what we think and feel matters. Buy stock in the Kleenex corporation now. There's gonna be a spike in sales when this movie comes out. I recently lost a good friend to suicide and that individual posted something to Twitter on the day of his death that in retrospect was very Fred Rogers-like that I'll end with and encourage others to do. #PropSomeoneUpToday
I am touched by what you wrote and wanted to say I am sorry for your loss. I am grateful that Mr Rogers can bring healing to our modern world and give us a moment to pause and consider the humanity in others. Be well.
A lot of what passes for Christianity these days seems mean and judgemental to me. I'm a Christian, but I don't relate to that ....Fred had it right... "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." ~ 1 Corinthians 13:13 :-)
Maybe finally Mr. Rogers message can reach ppl. So many love him and yet won't live his teachings. His gifts and beliefs can cause a shift to affect civilization.
I grew up watching Mr. Rodgers everyday after school. He was a beautiful soul and this is such a lovely tribute. I'm so happy Tom did this he has the same quiet quality.
Right? Never would have even thought about it until you see him in that first trailer, but then you immediately want to go shake that casting directors hand lol they chose well
He was the only choice for this role he is known as one of sweetest people in Hollywood it's just fitting that he gets to play the sweetest man in the world🌻🍁
If people were closer to the Church today, and understood that Mr. Rogers was an Ordained Presbyterian minister who's ministry was aimed at the well being of children.... it all makes perfect sense. But because it was aimed at the secular world though public television, he couldn't come right out and confess Christ or the Bible. It worked though, because Mr. Rogers taught us what Jesus did. "Thou shalt Love the Neighbor as thyself." ~ Matthew 22:39. Our World needs a lot more of what Mr. Rogers taught.
If the church was more Christ-like and Christians actually followed Jesus' examples people probably wouldn't be abandoning religion in droves in modern times. Not saying there aren't true Christians out there but it seems like they are harder and harder to find nowadays. Everyone is caught up in some kind of hate. Anti lgbtq, racism, sexism, take your pick. Jesus walked with prostitutes and brought food to lepers. He did not judge, he simply accepted, and tried to lead people to a better path and that seems to be a simple thing most cannot do today.
@@shawnkelly3542 Indeed. He said that it is the sick that need the physician. The only way to fight hate, is with love. You can treat someone you disagree with with respect and kindness. It seems ppl these days across the board have forgotten that.
I just saw the movie and I'm 51 years old and was transported back to a 7 year old child singing Won't you be my neighbor and all of the other songs while crying. Amazing Movie and thanks to Joanne Rogers for allowing the puppets from the real Mr Rogers Neighborhood.
When Hanks said that the show was not for him, and that you can't watch that show as an adult and be entertained, I stopped the video and yelled, "Tom! You're missing the whole point!" Even as a child, I didn't watch the show to be entertained. I didn't find it very entertaining most of the time. I hated those puppets. I didn't even watch it for the life lessons he taught. I was already too old to derive any benefit from most of them. I knew them already. I watched it for HIM. For Mister Rogers, and the way that he made me feel. He touched my heart like nobody else could. Every time. Even at this moment, thinking about him and his gentle, loving voice simultaneously makes me feel warm and loved, and makes me cry. I'm glad that Hanks found his own way to value Fred Rogers, the more he learned about him. How could it be otherwise?
I watched it for Fred too. The puppets looked sort of scary to me but it was his voice and his pause that made me feel important watching. I talk to my grandkids with their stuffed animals and they talk right back even though my hand and voice are right there. He knew that about kids and used it to touch a generation and now with Daniel Tigers Neighborhood it’s helping a new generation.
That's the point Hanks was trying to make. Give him a chance, and start the video at where you left off and you'll here him make it. It's pretty well wrought.
@@rpx8699 You didn't read my entire post. At the end, I make a reference to Hanks' appreciation of Rogers after he'd had more exposure to the man and what he stood for.
@@SueDNim Yeah, but if you don't understand Fred Rogers from a child's perspective and experience you are missing everything about who Fred Rogers really was.
Most adults are pitching fast balls at children who are not ready for fast balls. Gently offer them a bit of information and let them catch it. Fred got it.
I live up here in Boston Massachusetts and I was a big fan of mr. Rogers growing up.When I saw Tom Hanks in makeup in his hair done and everythingfor the movie a beautiful day in the neighborhood I was blown away because he looked so much like Fred Rogers. Tom Hanks nailed every part from talking and acting like mr. Rogers putting his sweater and sneakers on like mr. Rogers alsodoing the voices of the puppets in the city of Make believethis movie was phenomenal I enjoyed it so much that I downloaded it online and watched it a few more times and then a few more timesnow I watch it at least three times a week maybe four because I enjoyed it so much. All I got to say is toeveryone on the team of Tom Hanks and Tom Hanks himself thank you for a great film I enjoyed it alot.........
Growing up in England I wasn’t familiar with Mr Rogers until I moved to the US. I’ve just seen the movie (already seen the documentary) and have more of an appreciation for him than ever. He was perfect for his time, before kids became addicted to electronic games and had their attention span reduced to a few seconds. The world is a much poorer place without him.
I cried and cried when I saw the documentary, for sure I'm going to cry when I see this movie. Mr. Rogers was a beautiful human being and I'm so glad he's getting all the respect and acknowledgment he deserves. God bless Mr. Rogers wherever he is.
I didn’t grow up in usa , but i do live now in USA and my kids watch daniel tiger neighborhood and i knew there must be a big story behind it and then i get to watch MR. roger’s neighborhood, this man was a good heart and his message will keep spreading! God bless!
True, Tom Hanks has filled huge shoes. However, he's just an actor doing a great job portraying an amazing man with a Texas sized heart, and amazing insight whose influences are felt worldwide. God has a special place for Fred Rogers.
I'm 37 and watched Mr. Roger's as a kid... I completely forgot about the long pauses! I remember now how even as a kid I thought it was something different, and I liked it.
I never grew up with Mr Rogers but absolutely love this movie, it has such heart, such a beautiful message, it doesn’t sugar coat anything or anyone. Mr Rogers is not an infallible hero here but he is an amazing human being, and the story being told about grief and forgiveness and all facets of human emotion and virtues and vices. For me its an absolutely classic, it carries so much therapeutic weight, its a bit like a Good Will Hunting sort of film, its sorely underrated considering it seems it barely made any money, and besides critical praise ive never heard ppl mention it since. Of course its amazing because its about Mr Rogers but its a wonderfully written film, it could’ve easily been cheesy or schmaltzy or just been about Mr Rogers himself, and ppl would’ve been fine with that, the amazing thing is that the movie is mostly about some guy no one’s heard of rather than the namesake and yet it absolutely works for the story. It didn’t depend on Mr Rogers as a symbol to carry the film but it incorporated him into a deep emotional story.
I appreciate an actor who has to go through a journey to understand and respect the person they're playing. Those early biases like feeling too old or bored by something can become deep rooted if you don't have a reason to revisit them. Maybe he didn't need the quiet as a kid like a lot of us did. Maybe he'd already internalized the societal norms of not talking about your feelings. The fact that playing Mr. Rogers has made him a better communicator NOW is a gift in itself. That tells me Fred did his job, and Tom did his and I am SO excited to see this movie.
I loved Mr.Rogers from the first time i laid eyes on him as a child. He is the real deal. When I was teaching I used the motto what would mr. Rogers do? A lot. What a beautiful man.
This is a masterpiece and an emotional roller coaster. I couldn't count the number of tears I shed while watching this. We see how bad we are as humans when we see who Mister Rogers was. Must see.
With Tom working so much in the acting field, it's a forced smile for him to play Mr. Rogers. Mr. Rogers was always a happy guy and doesn't need to fake a smile.
I think it should be a well made film with a dedicated performance from Hanks with a tribute to a special man who was very dedicated to his life’s beautiful goal in relating and communicating with children
I can only imagine how/what Fred Rogers would have to do to try to explain to kids right now the world and the mess we are in now (and I am not just talking about the situation in Washington). I'm sure it would give even him a stroke.
That was always his style. That was the captivation. You speak, then you give them a chance to decide. That is what mattered to all of we children that were lost or confused and didn't really know. He waited for us. He was patient. He gave us time to find the words.
@Nancy Lanno THanks is a suspicious character and I refuse to associate him with Mr. Rogers. I agree he's a good actor and am truly disappointed. Hate Hollywood now. : (
Always loved watching MR Rogers as a kid. And as I posted in other MR Rogers related You Tube clips I often have trouble sleeping @ night & if I was awake early enough (I'm thinking maybe around 3-4 AM) & the show was on I'd get out of bed watch an episode & fall asleep soon after. I really want to see It's A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood but I know it will end & I'll be back in a MR Rogersless world !!
Thank you so much for loading ...I just love the incredible Mr. Rogers who IS a Saint and the genius of Tom Hanks is just a combination that cannot be matched ....Tom Hanks captures the mannerisms of Mr. Rogers completely ....it’s almost like you have him there ....God Bless Tom Hanks and May Mr Rogers rest in his Neighborhood in Heaven .....thank you again for loading this ....
I think this proves we need a Tom Hanks show. To look forward to seeing Tom Hanks after a tough week. I’m pretty sure he’s never done a show, so this would be a perfect opportunity.
I'm going to go to the movie theater and ask for a child ticket to see this. And when they say, you mean adult, I'll say don't mess with my childhood....lol
I won't be watching this movie in the theater. I'll be crying from the first moment until the credits role at the end. My kids loved Mr. Rogers. I adored him.
Anyone else just ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE with Tom Hanks?!?!?!!?! The greatest actor of our time, easily. I have zero interest in Mr. Rogers, but I will most definitely be seeing this.
While i think Tom Hanks was a good choice for the role, this interview, listening to him talk about Fred Rogers, makes me think he doesn't truly understand the depth of who the man was, and what he truly meant to kids and adults alike. Its like he is brushing the man of as a good person and leaving ti at that. Just a very vague understanding if you ask me.
Agreed. Children older than 2 1/2 to 5 years old watched and liked Mr. Rogers. Sure, the show wasn't geared to adults, but an adult might be watching it with their child. And Mr. Rogers is helping that adult relate that a kid doesn't have the words to express feelings or know how to organize their thoughts on what's happening in the world.
I have to agree with what you said about Hanks not deeply appreciating Fred. I was deeply disappointed with Hanks' superficial and somewhat aggressive comments. I expected more of him and he came up conspicuously short.
One has to forgive those who have hurt them and then some, take the extra mile, take that extra step to show love and kindness. And, Mr. Rogers was a person who learned how to deal with anger. Take anger, turn it on its head, chose to forgive and show love and kindness. The rewards are so much better when we forgive each other. When there is forgiveness, families, neighborhoods, and nations are healed.
Rip to Fred Rogers, there will never be another tv personality like him again , he was truly one of a kind , need more television shows, people like him in our world today , maybe over day
It's sad to see Tom's initial reaction.. " I didn't get it" Mr. Rodgers was not about entertaining first... he was about loving others first. A far fetched idea in today's self promoting, me-first culture.
Adam F i mean he said he was 11 when the show came out, lots of people had that reaction. Only the younger people (at the time) understood and I think what he said later that “oh, it was about showing how the world works” that made him get it. And it’s not just a thing about current culture: Mr. Rogers was a pioneer in using TV as an educational tool rather than than pure entertainment. TV has always been about a self promoting, me first culture. Not saying I disagree with you about today’s culture, but to claim that it’s only today’s culture is woefully forgetting that everyone was always like this.
There were very few questions from the interviewer. It was essentially them talking among themselves. If the lady had something she wanted to say, she could have done so. Did you ever stop to think that maybe she didn't feel the need to say anything during this part of their conversation?
I'm glad I'm one of the 90s kids that got to the chance to watch Mr. Rogers. I loved it. I was sad and disappointed that the show ended when I was 9 years 2001 and I was more sad and disappointed the day he died in 2003 :'( I can't wait to go see this movie :')
wow i gotta see this movie this is great movie. i always watch Mr roger neighborhood. as a child when i went for my tousle out it was him who help me feel more brave to go though with it. when i heard Fred roger pass away with tummy cancer i was very sad. he bought a lot of happiness to the world he will be missed.
Good video but they didn’t let the actress in the blue dress speak up, she wasn’t able to say what she wanted to say, they started speaking up for her . They didn’t even realize she was being overly ignored
This is the second movie cast interview I’ve seen recently where the single actress was asked few if any questions and said little or nothing. The interviewers and editors need to do a better job of including these actresses, or else stop inviting them. It’s becoming very conspicuous that are there as a token or as window dressing, but no one in charge has any interest in them or what they have to say.
This particular video is titled Tom Hanks on playing Mr Rogers so I'm guessing they were asking questions directly to the director and to him. I can't comment on the other video you watched.
