@@dominikrieder6384 That the plane did not crash, rather it was forced to land. Which I would say is accurate. It was a controlled, planned, careful landing in which every passenger survived.
oxford definition of the word hero: A person who is admired for their courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. I think everyone on that day certainly qualifies as that.
not many people in this world, handling so gounded with his given gifts. His intelligance, his talent in many ways for sure compressed to stay grounded, also today as a national real hero, like your best friend or your supe neighbour. My respect!
You know a movie is well made when people talk about it several years later. I would be honored to fly and have Sully and Skiles and the three attendandants guide the flight and do an excellent job. Godspeed to all.
Oh my gawd fathers x just so amazing no one died x god bless, the air traffic, the port authority(?) The boats, the other air traffic , helicopter, the cabin crew, the emergency services, all working together to keep everyone safe x thank god x shame on those investigative grumps though , special shout out to the Hudson, for being cold, and one of the best rivers after the Thames, man x
I could not think of anyone better to play sully then Tom Hanks he is brilliant actor but a genuin person brilliant lots of love to everyone on board everyone that saved everyone from the plane and Tom Hanks and everyone who had anything to do making a amazing movie ❤xx
Only one actor could have pulled this off, Hanks, genius, add Eatwood and you have a true portrayal in the face of the authorities, incredible, I don't use the word hero but I will twice here, Sully and Hanks, both hero's.
This is on HBO, Just saw it tonight...WOW! Great movie...I'm so jaded and cynical as I near 60 but I felt excited watching it...As a USAF vet like the real Sully; I feel very proud...Great stuff!
I love Sully!! I think he is extremely skilled and professional in manner but, he doesn’t realize the part that angels played in the survival of everyone on that plane. Perhaps he doesn’t believe. Maybe he does believe and just thinks they played no role in the situation. I’d love to know what he feels. The landing absolutely had much to do with his skills but, passengers were also praying their hearts out. I believe it was both God and man who made this happen. Planes almost always break apart in water landings. It WAS a type of miracle or, in the very least, an answer to many prayers crying out to God that day.
I hate how overly dramatic they bring it: "a plummeting plane", it wasn't plummeting, it was gliding down. If your parachute doesn't open, you plummet to the ground, if you lose both wings on a plane, you plummet to the ground. Learn your English!
I smile to think of how you would agree to the plummeting aspect were you strapped on the wing... But; you're right, it was a glide in but that is only because skully made it look like that; He had to hold an 11 degree nose up decent, or risk destroying the aircraft, while maintaining flap control and airspeed over 120...In an Aircraft to gain Airspeed you need to lower your nose...All of that is happening while you're staying alert for obstacles, He had to be at the right altitude to clear the GWB...And all of it happening in 208 seconds...Learn your physics and aviation...
Thanks for the elaborate information, that was exactly what I was looking for, thank you for explaining aviation and physics in a few short sentences, without you I would plummet to the ground every day when getting out of bed
I wonder it would be possible to simulate it. It depends on huge parameters of the water type, water motion, etc. But who knows maybe it'll be possible soon. BUT the point is that every pilot has a great intuition and feeling over the aircraft so that they can control it in any way they want, in any situation! They're masters!
Could have ended up so differently had Forrest Gump been flying the airplane! So happy that day ended with ZERO FATALITIES.. The crew of Cactus 1549 ARE HEROS! The movie "SULLY" was portrayed masterfully by Tom Hanks. Just think.......... It's hard to think this was the same guy that starred in "Joe Vs. The Volcano"! YES....I saw both. Several times. Can't think of a Tom Hanks movie I haven't seen at least twice. He's brilliant!
I can't believe how many Sully haters there are. Is he a hero, no. Did he act heroically along with his crew, the people on the ground and even the passengers the bring the plane down safely. YES! I think that the people who disparage him, if they were in the same situation would be wetting their pants and crying like babies and yes it is their duty to land safely in a situation like this.
They couldn't have picked anyone else for the movie. Sully is one of my favorite movies about a real incident. Had something been different then things would've been much worse.
The unrealistic part of the movie, which I think they got dead wrong, was how far down into the water the plane plunged. The water is heavy and solid(when you hit it at speed) and the plane is light relatively light and week. It could not have plunged into the water with out collapsing like a tin can. That's basically what it is, a big tin can. The great part of this whole story is how the Captain set this tin can down on the water with smashing it into pieces. You can see from the far away video that it touched down rather gracefully. I'm sure it was still a very sudden stop for the passengers. Drop an empty aluminum can onto the top of the water and see how for it goes underwater. It will not go under at all. That is what happened in this case. I don't think this was some merical. The captain's skill made all the difference.
Nearly all people are stupid thinks that this movie is boring and to lose money. Never say this. This is the movie for another pilot who will be the next hero like Sully.
Imagine if he had tried to go to the runway.. after 911 we all know what a plane crash can do . He flew a hundred tone glider and made a perfect water landing.. I would lover to see the simulator pilots to the same
I'm sorry, but if the movie is truthful and the NTSB pilots had to do 17 practice landings to get it right, and then didn't share that with Sully and the union representatives, then the individuals were on a witch hunt.
Yes, and in the film, you see how the NTSB ignored the time from the bird strike to the point at which the crew realised they had lost both engines. Thankfully, Sully insisted that the time was added and it proved that none of the simulator crews were able to return to any airport.
Of course it was a witch hunt ... nobody wanted to pay for the aircraft, so they had to try and pin it on somebody doing wrong. Not pilot error this time though .. lol
An investigation sounds wrong because we already know how it ends. But don't carry too much disdain for the investigators, they were just doing their jobs. Even the most minor issue on an aircraft is (and should be) thoroughly investigated. Which in the end, makes it safer for the rest of us.
Could you bloody well fly a plane? Let alone save 150+ lives by gliding and landing on water with both engines failed.... Seriously... My middle finger would love to give you a standing ovation!
Not only did he save the passengers but think how many people would die if you hit land in a busy city like New York, People would still learn about in 100 years as one of the worst plane crashes of the century. What if he hit a skyscraper and everyone in the building and everyone near enough to get hit by debris died. It would also kill people mentally, how would you react if multiple family members died
“Plummeting plane” at like 1:10 it was in a controlled glide towards the river away from buildings and obstacles....hardly plummeting, cmon ABC grow up 🙄
C'mon Brad. You obviously know how English works. We have multiple definitions for terms, depending on context. Plummet: 1.) To fall straight down; plunge. 2.) Something that weighs down or oppresses; a burden. 3.) To decline suddenly and steeply: _Stock prices plummeted._ I'd say multiple engine failure easily fulfills definition #2. In this context, "plummeting plane" = "a plane weighed down by a serious burden."
thats why you always let the driver of a machine with experience do what they do best, someone with decades of skill is far better than someone in a control office who might think they know better
It's interesting that there is / was no "water landing " practice or simulation..........maybe, there should at least be a landing in a light float plane., to give a little understanding..
The only part of the movie which is good is the actual bird strike scenes and landing. The rest just makes the NTSB is grilling him for doing a great piece of flying which even they said they didn’t do. For sure they interviewed the pilots but not like that.
The one thing I didn't like was that Clint Eastwood -- his wont to do -- made the government (the NTSB) the film's villain. From what I've read, that was not only inaccurate but also unfair.
Our Government is always looking to bring someone down. To get someone in trouble. It may not have happened like that in real life, but it's an accurate depiction of what the government is like
Not a miracle? You are wrong! If the plane were slightly higher when the birds hit it, the ending would be different. So many attributes telling us this was a miracle.
Watch Toms hand gestures in most every interview! I’m heartbroken that a man could divulge into such poor act of sin. Even if it’s just in gesture and in pics... you are one of them and Condoning heir actions. Wrote this for Tom! I played them all like puppets With my hand gestures of dismay I fooled all the people And they worshiped such decay I taunted in the movies Signaling my desires Offering offenses so many & The crowed fueled the fires 🔥 I knew that I was smarter For the sheep need be sheared I played the game of pizza The crowed clapped and cheered Illuminating my partnership With the dark mysterious knight Oh I became so famous My name was up in light Hollywood was my idle But not without a price For it had cost my soul Each move was precise If I were to display Expressing part of the game The applause of all that knew me Gave me tons of fame Never looking back For I had all success Playing with my ego I found myself in a mess I Could not escape For the curtain lifted high For all of my fans To see through my lie Now I was exposed But No one came to save I realized I’d been duped Destained for my own grave For when you run with the ego It’s only friend is selfishness In my own awakening I was taken down by a presidence! Tom Hanks Poem written by Brigid Anne Rohde
Can anyone tell me why Sully, the real one. has hazel looking eyes, but in some of the scenes in the movie Tom Hanks who has Hazel eyes also, has on very pale blue contacts? I figured that they goofed in the movie and forgot to put the contacts on Tom sometimes, but AFTER WATCHING THIS, it appears that neither one has light blue eyes@!! What gives???
71% of the earth's surface is water! So! How likely is it that some day an aeroplane has to land on it? ... should'nt aeroplanes and their pilots be prepared for it? ...
