True but she's still another variant of mj or nickname even stays the same. And if Zendaya was chosen for Juliet she wouldn't be getting nearly as much backlash on this. There's already multiple theater films with diversity already that wasn't like that before like Hamilton.
You know what bugs me. This is normal in theater. The trolls are unaware of this because if it wasn't for Tom they wouldn't touch the existence of a play with a ten foot pole. Who are they to come tell the actual teather people how to do things? I mean if you want to be a Shakespearean loyalist then push for a boy to be cast as Juliet.
Why he was Arab seeing as he was from Cyrus. But modern media keeps saying he was black. Like okay apparently black people lived in the eastern Mediterranean region. This is why media has become a joke and no one is watching it anymore because they take a originally idea and make it for the “modern audience” just come out with some new instead of banking on an old already done idea with some race swamping.
u r blind as a rock. there is nothing wrong with the color of skin. the show is going to fail. Romeo and Juliet are one of if not the best play of all time and u mix up the story and changing it. it won't be successful.
These people literally live on the internet. While they deserve to be the outcasts that they are, it unfortunately leads to them finding communities among themselves which causes this bullshit.
They work come home and live a monotonous life and crawl to social media where they can say awful shi cuz they can cuz nothing else is going on in their life so consuming media and being overcritical and hateful is their hobby
Wow so smart👏🏻👏🏻 i bet you have pronouns. But before that what will you think of a white guy playing someone like Malcom X? Or maybe Martin Luther King Jr? Would that be okey ? So get a life and don’t embarrass yourself ever again like that.
The people complaining are obviously not into theatre because if you indeed cared about this precious play and the white casting, we literally had that production last year and it was word for word the traditional play🤦♀️ this version is modern Tom isn’t in tights, they’re wearing baggy jeans and t-shirts, the dialogue is very Londoner slang 😂😂😂the casting doesn’t matter the production team has explained this so well several times
In the Spider-Man comic, MJ is always a white girl, and in the Romeo and Juliet story, Juliet is also a white girl. This is why people get mad and the people who get mad are accused of being racist. At least find an attractive African-American actress for Juliet.
Do people even know the story of Romeo and Juliet? Their families dont want them together I think the racial component sells that even better even might make it a better story, but haters are going to hate.
@@FoxMulder11 show me where “race” is mentioned? An age-old vendetta between two powerful families erupts into bloodshed. A group of masked Montagues risk further conflict by gatecrashing a Capulet party. A young lovesick Romeo Montague falls instantly in love with Juliet Capulet, who is due to marry her father's choice, the County Paris. It is a love story pure and simple. Only a racist can twist it into anything else.
@@FoxMulder11 oh snap, wow your intolerance is showing not only for blacks but for gender specific jobs. Is there anything else you are a bigot for?? How about short people? Or tall people? Women doctors? Smart Asians? Articulate Black people? Smart blondes?
I'd say that last part is less of Sexism and more so saying that she doesn't suit the role of Juliet because, well, she simply doesn't look very good. Juliet is meant to be beautiful, while this actress may suit that description to some, she certainly doesn't look that way to most.
@@VergilDMC Aah...isn't it a bother when fictional characters are subjected to artistic licence? It's like nobody ever consults the writer for their input anymore. You know your point is so moot that the land formerly known as Moot has rebranded themselves as Taint as they feel the ridicule will be lesser than being associated with your comment.
@@hectorgarcia2042 All the parts in the original openings of Shakespeares' plays were filled by "dudes"......Women were integrated later for cost perposes.
first of all people don't have an issue with interracial couples. here's something that might be a little hard to take. she's not that attractive and it has a mustache. don't get me wrong they are beautiful black women out there. but personally I think it was done just a rile us up.
But it’s annoying not everything needs to have diversity. It’s not equality if Hispanics and Asianand other minorities aren’t included as well. That’s selectivity.
To be fair she isn't accurate it's just the truth if that makes me racist then oh well sorry for wanting people to look like their characters this would of be considered normal before the 20s
It’s so sad that people get hate in movies just because they’re a black actor playing an originally white role. These were very good examples, but also in the new mean girls movie, avantika is getting hate because she played Karen as a black actress. It’s so sad, also considering I thought that she did amazing and she was my favorite character in the new movie, even though Karen was necessarily my favorite in the first (I still loved her tho)
I personally think neither should be criticized (especially the Romeo and Juliet girl) because of Race. As it’s stated it’s a reimagining of the story of Romeo and Juliet. Unlike Spider-Man which just made a brand new character and that’s the problem, having Zendaya play a comic accurate Mary Jane Watson would’ve been extremely interesting but instead they just made a boring character that never felt like a fully realized character and more like a half baked role that needed to be filled and put very low effort writing into. Either way race was never the problem it was the writing.
Does it make you feel sad in life? Does it stop you from sleeping? You mentioned Disney, maybe you should watch “songs of the South” that will make you feel a bit better
It's funny because people complaining about this clearly aren't that into Shakespeare or his work. In Shakespearean roles because race is so rarely written as a plot point it rarely is considered. It's not uncommon to see white and black actors playing characters who are directly related in Shakespearean productions. The ability to do Shakespeare is determined by your ability to not only deliver the language clearly but to also physically act so that language that may be hard for some to understand on the page is made clear when they watch you perform it. All this to say even if it wasn't a reimagining people complaining about this would still be in the wrong.
First of all there was hardly a single person who was upset over Zendayas role in the new Superman movies and the people who are calling out selective race swapping for Juliet are not racist
All I can say is this version was great and people threatening to not watch it it’s ok because you didn’t care much for lasts years production where everyone was white soooo makes no difference 😂
Why can’t things be the same? Why can’t these younger writers and industry people find new projects and leave the originals alone. Just ridiculous. It’s changing history and distorting it for snowflakes.
It’s not that she’s a black actress (can a black actor play Mulan just the same?) but it’s more that Juliet is supposed to be so beautiful Romeo instantly falls in love and dies for her. The actress they picked isn’t at all beautiful. If they cast Zendaya, no issue
Im tired of the replacement of fine actors, i wish they would create awesome roles for black people to play instead of using them to create "conteoversy". Black people are falling for it again, letting themselves be used for profit instead of being allowed to create something unique
Lol just saying it’s not Mary Jane though so it wouldn’t be some white redhead we are used it, it’s Michelle jones and jones is literally an African American last name
Yeah because he is doing it on purpose. I love how this guy always tries to make a point but always ends up kissing to actors ass. Like dude I get it you make your money off of telling people what they want to hear.
I am so fed up with the whole "if you disagree, you are racist argument ", white people have been harassed over culture appropriation for well over a decade now, so to continue to do this is just hypocrisy and that is what people are angry over, At least acknowledge the source of the anger
I call bullshit. There is probably a small group of any that are doing this. Most people don’t care. Just another way to drum up attention to the play.
The most overrated actress ever. If she returns for the next MCU Spider Man movie, she better have a smaller role and like be a background character. Michelle Jones more like Midhelle Jones. She is the lamest side character and very boring. I'm sorry but y'all have to stop glazing Zendaya
if the people’s opinion that you concern yourself the most with, comes from a no life behind a keyboard that has nothing better to do than sit around and drum up hate and fear, then you are part of the problem. stop giving them a voice
She is mixed. White and black lol but for Hollywood and liberal agenda, gotta push the minority side. If there were racists attacking her for her mixed heritage... that stupid lol it's funny to me people still think that way but the flip is also stupid. The reverse racism.
I get people getting mad at race swapping I certainly do and all these black actors and actresses replacing white characters and especially red headed white characters aren’t helping but you don’t threaten people over it
Disney cartoon little mermaid had Caribbean fish and Jamaican music. Why would you think a red haired white girl is fitting. They corrected it this time by making her black.
This is why I get so irritated when people act as if racism has been resolved. It never has been, it just is becoming more noticed and open thanks to racists having access to social media to voice their hatred.
