A renowned former army scout is hired by ranchers to hunt down rustlers but finds himself on trial for the murder of a boy when he carries out his job too well. The first film that was released with his participation in 1980 - "The Hunter". Then - "Tom Horn". Then he died from lungs cancer (asbestos). RIP

I read the book Tom Horn wrote sitting in his cell waiting to be hung. The movie was based on that book. One thing in the movie that pissed me off was Tom's rifle. In the movie they said Tom carried a 45-60 Winchester, but in the book, Tom bragged about his brand new and lightning-fast model 1894 Winchester 30-30. A first for smokeless powder by Winchester.

I read somewhere that McQueen, in preperation of making this movie, he went to Boulder, CO and actually slept next to the grave of Tom Horn..... awesome. That's all I have to say on the subject.

just read his autobiography...great book...although he does take some credit for other peoples actions in the Geronimo campaigns...but the fact is Al Sieber trusted him and mentored him...says something for Tom Horn.

Rifle used in movie is a Winchester 76 in .45-60. 300 grain bullet to be similar with the .45-70 same load. Irl Horn used a m94 Winchester in .30-30 Wcf.

Then he was hung for murder. Tom rode both sides of the law and was a complicated man. One thing he truly hated was a thief. He was what is now called an anti hero. Did a lot of good, served the country when called, but did a lot of bad as well.

Tom Horn was a victim of circumstances that shaped his life into a great man that lost to The Cause. His character has been wrote about but his story has never been told correctly. I William Nuchols from Tennessee believes he was innocent of killing the kid based on circumstances

He was giving the sheriff a hypothetical answer to show him how miraculous the shot would have had to be. The sheriff took it as a confession. He claimed his innocence in his book.

Steve McQueen had stayed away from the Hollywood scene for too long by 1979. "Tom Horn" reflects this to a certain point. His charisma is still much in evidence but his box office appeal had waned. The plot is not very good as it is ponderous and confusing. The ending makes little sense.
@arctodussimus6198
@arctodussimus6198 3 года назад
McQueen wasn’t comfortable with fame. He was supposed to be at the Tate party in August of 1969, but decided to get laid instead. After finding out what happened that night, he started carrying a pistol everywhere. And the ending of the movie had to be that way because that’s what happened.

Great cinema. Really enjoyed the effort to put more facts than fiction into making a film. I remember that year because the Big Ranchers in West Texas were having a problem with livestock and disease from another country. Hit this USA meat market very hard. Verstein en duetchland.👏
