Hello hello! Tom and Jerry girl, ain't it? You should go check out my other cool music videos as well :) Follow me on insta: @yannietanmusic Tom and Jerry Cat Concerto - Arranged version of Hungarian Rhapsody No.2 by Franz Liszt
@@ladyarthuriai don't really think cg is a bad thing, if used well it helps the animayion process and makes them look better, but if done baddly uhhh (berserk)
@@mrfunny8364 why would i? I'm learning piano and reading sheets and thats what i came up with.. a whole life is alot.. few months for a 10 min. symphony is enough 😉
Sometimes I feel that we don't appreciate these masterpieces much. In my childhood, I was just laughing all along, never realised how difficult was this to play for the person who played this.
And the animators of course. All they had was pieces of paper, transparency’s, and an overhead camera. Then knowing 24 frames per second, they had to draw this and snap photos in perfect sync with a piece of music that isn’t remotely consistent in tempo. This must have been a massive technical achievement and no wonder it won an Oscar.
@@ryanpwm and Tom's fingers move so fast and accurate to the song while his body is all moving and everything is so smooth and expressive. It's a masterpiece!
Can we just take a minute to appreciate the fact that Tom was a cat that was once homeless but progressed to the level of a concert level pianist, who played on stage in front of crowds. But all he is remembered for is a bunch of cartoons?
Tom and Jerry was my first introduction to classical piano- I loved them as a small child and developed a love for playing the piano that has lasted my entire life. Sometimes, we just don’t know what can influence someone’s life
Even at 2:05? Sounds and kinda seems like two notes. But in the animation looks like one. I mean I'm no piano expert, so I'm just making a ignorant observation here.
I used to laugh uncontrollably at Tom's facial expressions as a child; but when I began taking classical guitar seriously, I understood Tom meant business, 😆🤣😂.
@Violinistories ofc not completely, it would be boring to watch if it's completely accurate, i think what Defy's talking about is how great the timing is.
The combination of the playfull and fun cat outfit and skittish fun playstile and the technical prowess is what made me smile. It is so awesome seing this classical peowess in a not to serious mood
She absolutely nailed this piece. For realz, tho. That's how the piece sounds in the cartoon. They even animated Tom playing with the right keys, both are awesome and beautiful.
@@Aimai_ there's many notes missed, but still amazing regardless, because the time signature is all over the place due to jerry disturbing the piece lmao
@@revandewaputra4239 yea she missed some notes, commented that before I saw her get into friska. But it’s amazing that she was prbly focusing more on matching Tom and jerry rather and playing the piece perfectly
Yannie thank uou so much for such a beautiful performance to a wonderful childhood memory. This is why I love classical music and jazz literally from Tom and Jerry and amazing musicians!!!
It helps that the animators did such an accurate job as far actually matching Tom’s movements to what was actually being played. Pretty rare to see, even nowadays (Obviously the hammer movements are pretty exaggerated in many scenes, but the key work is almost spot on)
Yannie - im a huge fan of tom & jerry and grew up watching the piano episode hundreds of times. You are a legend to play this for real. I always wondered if it was even possible to do that, and its heartening to see an incredible talented person such as yourself reviving legendary t&j tunes
Music without you is nothing.. For the first time I see innate beauty, tenderness, a beautiful smile, and the most beautiful music combined together, it made me words and then words that I want to say but I cannot. You made all the things around you amazed by you until they were about to speak like me. You are the one who made the piano want you to play it and You made the chair want you to sit on it and you made the light want to fall on your beautiful face. When I look at you, I feel like my legs want to go to you, even if you were in the farthest place, so I could hug you and I don’t want anything from this world after that.. I love you very much. Yannie Tan❤
Omgg that was so me too. Everyone liked Jerry and I just felt bad for Tom cause I kinda related with him. Also, jerry was kinda mischievous. I liked both of them but tom's my favorite.
Lol! I love how she mashed The Entertainer and that Santa Fe train song (can’t quite remember the name of the movie it’s from) together. It worked well for my most favorite scene of this short.
Not gonna lie when i watched this scene as a kid it was literally one of the first times that i ever felt emotions from music. Like i'm not even kidding. I can't remember what but this was the first time i would just sit there as an 8 year old or something and just listen to the music.
The thing I loved most about that show is they never spoke, everything was done through expression and it still was funny, this was such a beautiful animation I’m glad it’s still getting it’s recognition all these years later.
That's not entirely true. Tom does talk in a few episodes. One that comes to mind is the two episodes he falls in love with a female white cat and is competing with an alley cat for her. Once at the beach and the other in his neighborhood. There are others though I'm sure. There are also many episodes where Tom sings as well. Most famous is when Tom does opera and sings Figaro. At the end Jerry finishes singing the song. Only episode that I can remember where Jerry actually speaks/sings.
@@time.worn-soul8243 "Ah, you set my soul on fire. It is that, just a little spark, and it is a flame. A big ROARING flame. Oh, I can feel it now. It is burning. Burning!" *sniff* *sniff* "Hey, something really is burning around here..." [foot is on fire] Cue Tom's scream 🤣.
I love how the animator doesn’t FAKE the fingering and note placement 😂 and even gave an EASTER EGG on that finger stretch. As a pianist, very satisfied 👌
It amazes me this was animated in the Late 40's-50's. Modern cartoons nowadays don't even make their Drums accurate but this just sent dedication to a whole another level.
I just came here from a video of a scene in the musical animated film Sing which completely destroyed the piano scene. The funniest part is it's a musical movie so they should be getting it right.
Cartoons back then is more than just for children's enjoyment, they are our time's cgi thus creators can do whatever they want and their audience ranges from Youngs to adult.
Because back then cartoons weren't just for children but nowadays because it's made for children children don't care about the accuracy they just want to watch it so animators think they can get away with animating it wrong i might be wrong
I have always enjoyed the Tom and Jerry cartoons.... and when you listen to,. and study the accompanying music - 'Scott Bradley' the orchestra's work and skill as they play to the action is staggering.
I never realised how difficult the piece was in Tom and Jerry untill I watched her play it, and for the creators, they really deserve an Oscar for making our childhood unforgettable.
Tom and Jerry is the one and only cartoon that genuinely made me laugh so hard . Today's cartoons don't even come close to this two amazing duos adding that dog would be trios but I don't wanna add the dog. After all This show is called Tom and Jerry for a reason.
I had no idea creators put in this much effort to make my childhood happy. Thanks to each and every one. Also thanks to the lady and uploader for bringing back those golden memories once more.
Ok so idk why I've never seen this before, this is now my fav video on the internet. AMAZING. So talented and funny. Thanks for showing your talent to the world, you are making it a better place. I just know I will never forget this brilliant piece, it makes me really happy. Thank you!!
Congrats to the cartoonists who figured out a way to present a very complex piece of classical music to billions of people. Just imagine how many people got interested in classical music or playing the piano after watching this cartoon? They deserve the Nobel Prize or something.
This is beautiful. Imagine I heard this piece as a child, what taste in music - extraordinary. Surely there's a mouse in the piano and her finger went to the far end without getting clipped
That's how a lot of old cartoons used to do it. No voice acting, no ost, just royalty free classical music in the background. It actually tends to be more entertaining than modern plot-driven cartoons.
not gonna lie, would rather rewatch tom and jerry than watch new cartoons today. idk why but theres something funny about watching them get beat up by their own actions and or stupid reasons.
@@parkuuu You said it. As an animator myself, I understand why they had to go with cg, its faster than hand drawn animation and less tiring too. But yeah, hand drawn animation is just built different.
@@Kopie0830 forgive my ignorance, but would it still be possible for the current technology to imitate the old hand-drawn feel? I mean it would make sense to draw keyframes quicker with the current tools, I think but I might be wrong. Just like the cuphead game, if you are familiar with that.. they used rubber hose animation style and it is damn beautiful.
@@parkuuu It is possible as drawing and animation apps can simulate the feel and quality to hand drawn level. So you are right, they can animate to 90's style of drawing but 2d animation styles are getting rarer and rarer and most are switching to full 3d.
I'm sure I probably worded it wrong my mistake! In that episode of Tom and Jerry when Jerry goes to interrupt/harm Tom it causes him to fumble sometimes making him hit incorrect notes but still staying on key , she was hitting those correctly even tho it didn't sound right at all. So in turn hitting those incorrect notes perfectly synced with the video is astoundingly good and takes incredible talent
@@isaacpianos5208 no if u mean the actual Hungarian Rhapsody no.2 ... then this piece was composed differently than that just for the sake of the episode ... at some points where jerry is interrupting the notes are different 🙂
Imho having listened to other recordings of this piece it really isnt that good. I mean even Rousseau's recording (which, unlike the others, is played by "some guy" instead of a trained virtuoso) has more clarity and brings out the proper nature of the piece... I mean from a classical music perspective, this recording is a trainwreck.
@Adel Eng Sheng Jun Student And most all piano recordings are also played on a stage aswell, so my point still stands. And as far as playing the piece well is concerned, clarity plays a role. If she cannot do that, then even the talent argument falls off
@Adel Eng Sheng Jun Student A bad recording is still a bad recording. It'd honestly be more impressive if she could play something like one of the Chopin Etudes but actually clearly.
@@reveirg9 Is it? Well I'll tell you what I found at least in the opening section of the Friska (3:30 to 4:30) a) The opening section of the Friska (3:30) is waaaay faster than normal (and louder too) and doesn't have the notes played again after the arpeggiated chord (idk its hard to explain); b) When the Friska transitions into the bit with the repeated C# note (3:39) - it really is uneven and the whole thing is played so loud it is very hard to discern the left hand chords and the "pulse" of this section c) When this section begins to involve octave jumps (3:44 onwards) the whole thing devolves into a mess - tempo is off; dynamics are uneven; the balance shifts making the left hand waaay more inaudible; d) Skip a bit ahead to around 4:02 and you'll hear the lower note accented waaay more than it should be; e) At 4:12 the dissonant notes are played as if theyre chords even though theyre meant to be arpeggiated/crushed (whatever you call grace notes) and f) At 4:18 the lower notes are again, extremely loud and it overpowers the higher notes - as opposed to a more even balance All of this might sound like innocent mistakes that I'm picking at, but the general point I'm trying to make is that the pianist does not appear to have good control over said piece
I wish if the creator of this episode had been present. I'm sure he'd have smiled with some tears in his eyes. So beautiful and the girl is so talented.
There’s a part where her ears almost fall off and she catches them and secures them with one hand not missing a beat during the performance. Insanely impressive.
I know right. The comedy timing was so perfect and the attention to detail and all other small details are so impeccable that it’s irreplaceable. I think this show was created by a futuristic man prolly a man from future itself.
You can tell there were parts were she had to slow down to match with what's going on in the screen, other times she had to go faster. I can imagine that had to be nerve wracking and hard to do. Especially when everyone was looking at you.
Im 68 and a retired Indian veteran still watching this cartoons and hilarious videos with my grandchildren... How privilegded i am❤ Missing those days i used to watch with ma wife though..
