The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

he didn't pass out; he was a sound booth and he held onto something in case he did and said when he opened his eyes after hitting and holding the note, things were spinning a bit but he did not pass out. Not sure why that rumor persists when he has explained it numerous times in interviews. Makes sense he wouldn't do it here on this show - at least in a recording studio if someone messes up the recording, they can re-do - here he wouldn't be able to

I do agree...live performance....when recording to the movie,the high C,was strenuous.Tom dropped to B one second before to fit the score harmony.His strategy was very clever,but in a live presentation was very risky.Rarely a pop singer needs to sing that note.Great Tom Jones !!!

My mom used to tell us to be quiet when he sang on TV. We weren’t allowed to make a sound on fear of death lol. She would sit on the couch with huge eyes and adoration on her face. My dad had to go to the bedroom so mom wouldn’t hear him laughing. He always got a kick out of mom having the Tom Jones crush. 🤣🤣🤣👍

I think he got the lyric wrong. He sang, "His needs are more so he TAKES less." It should have been "His needs are more so he GIVES less." Still a great song sung live by a great singer.

I like a bit of Tom Jones. Great vocals on his tracks and quite a character, I read his autobiography a few years back and it was a fascinating read. Also my mum is a big fan, gives me a chance to rifle through the vinyl collection and pick out some corking tracks. Like the Bond theme intermingled in this track...

I saw Tom sing this "live" about 20 years ago. The band led into it with the basic Bond theme, the fast guitar riff. So everyone in the audience knew that Tom was about to launch into "Thunderball."

Sir Thomas Sean Connery (25 August 1930 - 31 October 2020) Thunderball (1965) was his 4th Bond film of a total of 7. The theme song was written almost at the last minute. Not the greatest set of lyrics, but with Tom Jones belting it out - very successful.

I think it's literally the most perfect lyrics ever. He's literally describing James Bond as Ian Fleming would. Could get any women he wants, he sees the world and wants it all etc. The song's lyrics to me are absolutely perfect.

@@chrisreed3385 Chris, I've always thought and still do that Thunderball was Sean Connery's Best Bond Film. He looked his best & there wasn't anything about this Movie that wasn't awesome. I wholeheartedly respect any movie of Sean Connery's you think is the best. Many like Goldfinger (his second best in my opinion) & others think From Russia With Love was his best. What do you think is his best?

Goldfinger for me. Everything Quintessentially Bond was in that film. When I think of Connery as Bond this is the film that instantly floods my mind. As I say I do like Thunderball and it is probably my close run second favourite to From Russia with Love. But Goldfinger fantastic, top 3 Bond film easily for me.
