The Bills have been through the most this season than any season. The tragedy at Tops Supermarket, 2 blizzards and game moved to Detroit against the Cleveland Browns, now this. May the whole Buffalo Bills organization be stronger and better from inside out. I am speechless still wondering if this young strong man can fight and get through this. Strength is in prayer. Light is for all.

For clarity- A heart attack is not cardiac arrest. they are different. cardiac arrest means the heart has stopped moving blood or stopped altogether. You do not survive cardiac arrest without immediate cpr/defib medical intervention. People regularly survive heart attacks because the heart is still moving blood, even if in small amounts. Heart attacks can lead to arrest however.
@dlhaddix742
@dlhaddix742 Год назад
You are 100% correct. I came here to write about this because I knew what Pelissero was wrong. Why? Because I'm a heart patient who had a heart attack, received a bypass, and now a 10 year survivor. One of the first things you learn is the difference between cardiac arrest and a heart attack. Now, as a journalist and former reporter, I understand Tom's desire to "get ahead of the pack" and explain what he knows but before he starts throwing terms around interchangeably he needs to get the terminology right in order to be credible and not make mistakes. Thoroughness never stops whether you are a fledgling reporter or a seasoned journeyman.

No, cardiac arrest is the definition of “dead”. He had no pulse and was not breathing. That’s dead-the clinical definition of dead. HOWEVER-it was a potentially reversible death, which it was in this case. Without the prompt intervention of skilled paramedics and physicians, he would have stayed dead. CPR is meant to circulate blood for a heart that has stopped beating and supply oxygen for a person that is not breathing, and to act as a bridge to advanced life support can identify and treat reversible causes.
@Sayuri-cr8cy
@Sayuri-cr8cy Год назад
@@macmedic892 that’s actually a misconception. In the medical field “dead” refers to a state where brain activity has ceased or is damaged beyond its ability to govern bodily functions. The death where the heart stops has been used by Hollywood so they can still call it “death” and be able to revive a character, which hardly seems like a qualified definition of death. Its not a “legal” definition either. I would take the medical version over the “legal” version.

When you realize that many of these players are extremely young. Witnessing something as traumatic as this will scar them for life.

They will get through it, if they have trouble they will be afforded a myriad of counseling options that most people would probably not find. I remember watching the McCullum injury in 1994. By the time the unwrapped Ken Norton from the pile and finally got McCallum in the ambulance, the players and especially Norton looked shell-shocked and they just walked through the rest of the game. They did the right thing by postponing.

@seanhettenbach2101
@seanhettenbach2101 Год назад
I doubt that is at what happened. I imagine what happened is that there is a protocol for when an injury occurs and a player is taken off the field by an ambulance... They gather themselves and begin to warm up and then once they've collected themselves continue the game. Everyone probably started going through the normal protocol, refs included, and the coaches and the commission probably finally got into contact and decided to suspend the game. It was clearly not going to continue after that happened. I don't think anyone in their right mind thought that game was going to be continued...

Those of us that have been watching pro football for 50 + years saw a seachange in the way that the players responded to Damar Hamlin's situation Fifty years ago the coaches would have ordered the players to suck it up and resume playing the game That was then this now Now if so ordered the players would have refused to keep playing and quite frankly very few of today's HCs would have ordered them to play

There is a doctor that did a video about this and the way he described it was, the heartbeat cycle is longer than most people realize and there is a certain moment in that cycle that if you happen to take a hit to the chest, that in any other moment in the heartbeat cycle would not trigger a heart attack, will cause one in that particular moment. There was a name for it and he said although rare it happens and usually is from car accidents and hits of that nature. Hopefully someone who understands it better than I do can comment underneath here. I'm really regretting not saving the link to that video.

Irresponsible reporting if that is what you want to call it. If Hamlin's heart is in ventricular fibrillation caused by an arrhythmia, which is what it was, he is not clinical dead yet. So essentially the paramedics assessed the situation quickly and realized they had a "V-Fib" patient and needed to respond appropriately with a defibrillator. Most cardiologists call V-Fib a "quivering" or an extremely rapid beating of the heart caused by an electrical disturbance. They were successful and restored his heart to a normal heartbeat and out of the arrhythmia and fibrillating, or cardiac arrest.
