"Never had a manager or an agent" I tell you, George Harrison was a superstar the likes of which we never saw before and will never see again. A man of true substance and spirituality.
OH my god, it's true!! Usually when they say that it's not true, but this time it IS! And Julian's voice is the spitting image of his dad. Wow. They CAN have a reunion!
Jeff Lynne & Electric Light Orchestra should have been inducted into the R&RHOF 18 years ago. Jeff is a genius composer, musician, singer, producer, arranger. His concert last month in Hyde Park broadcast by BBC Radio was spectacular. And his ELO mascot - the neon juke box spaceship - is beyond cool. I just learned today he co-wrote with Tom Petty my three favorite TP & the Heartbreaker songs: "Runnin' Down a Dream," "I Won't Back Down" and Free Fallin'".
The Traveling Wilbury's, a group that I've just discovered after all these years, is such a hidden gem that the Hall of Fame should separately recognize this group for their incredible accomplishments in such a short period of time. I get so much pleasure to listen and sing along with those top hits and love the solo by Roy whose lyrics are so true today.
It was great that they had someone who knew his music and who also knew him personally, because Petty could talk about his greatness as a musical artist and as a person. Usually they have someone who just knows the music and can talk only about that.
Petty and Lynn got to play with two of the true legends of rock and roll music, Roy Orbison and George Harrison in the Traveling Wilburys. George Harrison was one of the greatest of all time.
Tom did a great job, I’m glad he appreciated the worthiness of why he was there to induct George. Humor is great, but in this case we the public are making a statement that must endure for now on. I saw the audience also knew this and they behaved very honorably. His son and wife will have this memory to cherish for the rest of their lives. I really liked Jeff postulating that George was watching and probably saying to get on with it. He was never one to seek accolades even though he certainly was worth them. I’m always touched by George’s keen desire to know what he thought was the most important questions in his life; “ who am I, where am I from, and where am I going?” Dearest George I hope you are on the most wonderful journey you imagined.
+cat murphy The R&R hall of fame is run like Banana republic, and they always a joker as far as I concern, I would bet that they will putTaylor swift and Beyance in there before Jeff Lynne
Rock Hall: Hey Jeff..... Jeff: Yes? Rock Hall: We were wondering...... Jeff: Yes? Rock Hall: Since you've been with the Rock Hall for so long........ Jeff: Yessssss??? Rock Hall: We were wondering if you'd....... Jeff: Yesssssss????? Rock Hall: Could you induct George Harrison into the Rock Hall? Jeff: What?

Tom and Jeff - a very loving and thoughtful tribute to a truly remarkable human being. There are very few people that, although I've never met them personally, I can honestly say I Iove/loved. George Harrison is one of those few. If there is a Heaven/beautiful afterlife/Valhalla,etc, no matter who runs the joint (Krishna; Allah; Ha Shem; ect. ect.) I know George is there. Take that, "wronglydividing7, you clueless bozo!
I was going to be four very soon when George passed. I had hardly even heard of the Beatles at that time. But I understand his impact on music. Music was a sacred thing to him, and it would have troubled him to see what it has become today. It's great that Tom and Jeff got to induct him. They were some of his closest friends. But now he and John are jamming with the angels. Rest in peace George, and Hare Krishna.
I will love George forever ♥ What a wonderful human being he was that is why his music was so good. ... don't come along leave me alone, don't bother me... how brilliant. My prayers always 🙏
Tom Petty was such a student of the great artists who influenced him. And so articulate as he DJ'd on his "Buried Treasure" show which thankfully lives on Sirius.
I was thinking the same thing. What a shame but he finally got his due. George would have been proud to be there. He was there and heartfelt when the Beatles were inducted and not drunk off his ass like Ringo was!
Jeff Lynne is WAY past due to be inducted. It's unreal to me that so many fadish people/groups have been admitted and a true artist with so many years of experience and creative work has been passed over. Jeff Lynne should be in at least TWICE as far as I'm concerned. What is the criteria anyway?
Soooo... when are Jeff Lynne/ELO going to get inducted? Madonna is. So are Hall and Oates, Donna Summer, Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, Neil Diamond, ABBA, Bobby Womack, Run DMC, etc. etc.. All fine artists - hardly rock and roll.
***** I disagree completely - they're hip-hop, and the odd punk song in their catalogue doesn't change that. Don't get me wrong: I love the Beastie Boys, have most of their albums, and acknowledge - yes even propagate - their impact on music as a whole. But they're not rock and roll, and their induction in the RNR:HOF is misplaced.
George Harrison was one of the most underrated musicians around. He was so overshadowed (unjustly) by the more colorful Lennon and McCartney you didn't realize he was there. He was a fantastic musician and songwriter. Greatly missed George, I hope you are getting to see "My Sweet Lord".
Just a couple of questions... 1. How is that anyone who got their start in the 70s got inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame before a Beatle? 2. How the fuck was Jeff Lynne not inducted already?
George wrote some great songs w/The Beatles : Something, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Here Comes the Sun, Taxman , I Me Mine, Think For Yourself, Savoy Truffle, I Wnt To Tell you . . . and many more. Plus he played great lead lines on guitar - Listen to his fills on Two of Us..
Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, and Gorge Harrison were 3 fantastic entertainers. But if we are talking greatest entertainers, of all time, then that has to be Prince. On the song that the three of them did in tribute of George, (My guitar gently weeps) watch George's son's face, light up and his smile, shines at ..... and ...of the video clip. Thats happiness in a time of great sorrow for the boy. It was a gift, from Prince. Nobody honored George Harrisons legacy better than Prince did. #1 entertainer of all time. The entire package.
Many people felt that "All things must pass" was the closest to a following Beatles album after Abbey Road there was at the time, hence the volume of sales....
1:45 Although I'm Tom's biggest fan he is wrong here. "McCartney" was the first #1 album by an solo Beatle, May 23 1970. George had the first #1 single by an solo Beatle, "My Sweet Lord", December 26, 1970.
If we want to be technically correct both "All Things Must Pass" and "McCarthy"....we both April 1970....regardless Harrison's album was one of the best ever released.....peace xx
Good on Jeff, he went there by respect to his friend but he wouldn't give a big speech to that bunch of wankers that are the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame.
Petty said All Things Must Pass was the first #1 Album by a solo Beatle. But I swear McCartney`s self-titled solo debut, which I know went to #1 also, cause it was knocked off the top by Let It Be (the album, of course), was released first. Can anybody check the record on that please???
This exact kind of thing is why we had to invent techno music in the 80s. The rebels had become the establishment and it was a very exclusive club. Synthesisers and drum machines gave the music back to the kids. Something the establishment could never understand.
