This was my dads fight song when he was battling pancreatic cancer. He lost his battle but would want everyone with minimal or serious issues to keep this song in their head!!!
I owe a whole lot to this Tom Petty Classic. I took a stand against my alcohol addiction and quit drinking in March of 1993. That's 30 years of 100% sobriety. Thank you for the inspiration Mr. Petty!!
If I could give you some advice from a man that was plagued with a solid 5 years of a bad time in my life. I saw two tours in Iraq. I had a mean cheating wife that took all I had. Most of my youth was ripped from me. Hang in there, and keep pushing towards your dreams. I'm married to a complete angel, and have a dream job. Many would say it was hard work, but if I'm being frank with you it was never backing down, never giving up, and a true miracle. Hang in there, and just take things one step at a time.
@Droppin'fuckin'loads Yeah me too. When i was 10 years old i saw the crime scene where my father had just been murdered, and its fucked...i have to live with that in my brain for the rest of my life...im 55 years old now and it doesnt get easier. You take care🙏
Jacob Collins God bless you !! That is exactly my thought when listening to this song . Chemo ain’t shit we got this !! You’ll see how we will see the light in Jesus name !! Take care
My dad passed away last week. He was really sick. But this has always been his favorite song. We played it at his funeral, and it'll always make me think of him
This song has given me encouragement to stand my ground, fight the good fight, and pick myself up, dust off, put on a smile. Thank you Tom. RIP my friend.
This song reminds me about my wife. It was her favorite song before she lost the battling to cancer, I wish I could change the hands of time, I miss her smiles, she was always there for me and our lovely daughter, and I never miss a moment with her, life could be so unfair most times, there is some pain, I will cry in vain but won’t let you know how I will feel yes, I will miss you to the core! but some times i wonder why bad thing always happen to good people. She’s always in our hearts
I see that Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne wrote this one together. I think they're two of the greatest of all time because of the profound depth of their music. As expected, they did an incredible job, though I can't say I'm surprised. Still, it's such a pleasure to witness the work of two extremely talented humble servants working together.
This is how I feel. I want to live my life my way and I wont back down either. I understood Tom Petty and his personality better than anyone on this planet. I love Tom Petty. He was a TRUE legend in this life. RIP Tom!
Tom Petty is universally beloved, the type of person that everyone feels they understand and relate to as a person as s well as through his music. Such a beautiful soul ❤️.
Saw him about 10 years ago in Virginia, drove 5 hours from NJ to see him. Literally one of the best shows I've EVER seen. His concerts are just fun. Everyone drunk having a good time singing along the entire show, it was a huge party.
Please God...let this beautiful man live! If not...then I thank you Mr. Petty, for years & years of such great hits. So many youthful memories revolve around his songs; like me playing air guitar to Refugee at the age of 8. Tears of joy...tears of sadness. I'm so torn.
It's my birthday. I'm 39. I appreciate my Dad raised me on classic rock. Back when music was real music and people had actual talent. Petty was my favorite. He never backed down. R.I.P. sir you will always be a legend.

This is the official song of my wrestling team. Most of us come from a pretty broken background and so this song tends to me more than just wrestling to us.
@@jessicawagers8892 We need you now. We are in trouble here, March 2021 - We need people to sit up and take notice of that crap that's going on. Covid is a invasion of the free world to take over our economies and leave us destroyed. There goes our freedom if people do not wake up to this. God Bless.
...WELL...this song and the attitude it says got me in a LOT of trouble in my young days... ...and now that I am an old man.......I wouldn't change a dam thing....LoL...Ha..ha....;--),,,
Started strumming this song on my acoustic. Got to the point where I started singing. Finished the song and my 5 year old says "play it again daddy". He's not old enough to understand the way things are going to be changing as his mother and I split a month ago. One day he will understand that his daddy never backed down to being the best dad he could be.
People say die twice once when you are put in the ground and once when your name is never said again so truly he will never die if we always remember how great of an artist he was
It's almost a shame my high school sweetheart is dying of cancer and this was the last song I sent him I hope he's all right I keep praying for him. Philadelphia USA
I remember the first time they played this at The Swamp shortly after he'd passed as a tribute. Played it at the start of the 4th quarter of every home game since. Go Gators, and RIP to a true legend who passed away too soon.
dancewitme211. I know how you feel. I lost my father to lung cancer but he lived a full life and he got to see his children and grandkids and his great grandkids. But it still hurts and i cry all the time cause i miss him so much.
I won't back down...you could stand me up at the gates of hell...there ain't no easy way out...he was so awesome!!!!!Those lyrics rock!!!Words to live by...
The Florida Gators made this song even more epic! If you haven’t sat in a stadium with 94,000 people singing this song right before the 4th quarter against LSU, then you haven’t truly heard this song in full form!
RIP Mr PettySo many memories of being 16 and finding out what this world was all about. Your music was always there, somewhere......very sad day indeed.
R. I. P. Mr. Tom Petty. I am a black woman whom grew up with your and ALL music. To be honest thank you Lord for allowing my family to teach me better. You was, and always shall be one of my favorite artist from the 80’s, beside Stevie Nix. You were the man!!

This became my anthem as I battled my former HR department when they didn't believe my Harassment complaint and subsequent workplace mobbing. Thank you, Tom!
