Absolutely! That trailer has brought SO many young people to this awesome legend. I love whoever made this call at Rockstar. I'm sure they faced LOTS of opposition and other suggestions (it's a multi-billion dollar project after all). I'm glad the Petty fan won the board room battles!
Who could've guessed this song would've been of GTA6 fame?! Well deserved IMO! "Runnin' down a dream" Still holds a special place in my heart from GTA SA. Well done!!!
Great friggin' tune that is not one of the overplayed ones on the radio. Saw them in Atlanta some years ago with CS&N warming them up. It was surreal..... Dated his next door neighbor's daughter in Gainesville in the late 70's. Go Gators! RIP Tom. You are sorely missed. Great band.
I totally agree. Love is a Long Road is a hidden gem in Petty and The Heartbreakers arsenal. The entire Full Moon Fever album, not really a Heartbreakers album, but a Petty--Jeff Lynne collaboration....his epic solo album, is a MASTERPIECE. Even spoitlighting Mike Campbell and Roy Bittan on certain tracks. I absolutely love this song for many personal reasons!
It Rocks! It also has dynamics that are in your face, then draw you back in to pay attention. Then...back in your face. Then goes down a "... long long road ... Long live Petty and Heartbreakers.
@@drvee1983 As a songwriter and guitarist for some fifty yeats, Tom's song is incredible with shift and mood changes: It begins with tension...Benmont at the top of his game...the intensity builds to chorus/bridge refrain. Its like a dam of water bursts! But then...returns and builds up again, like so many 45 foot waves on the open Pacific Ocean. And...then then the relief of the surge, once again, on the bridge... Love...is a long long road. Just brilliant song crafting, and structure! Long live Tom Petty!
Tom Petty the legendary, your voice will live on forever, so glad you were used for the biggest game of all time's trailer. GTA 6. Now a whole new generation will hear you!
I had never listened to Tom Petty much before the GTA trailer and now I am obsessed. I can't stop listening to Full Moon Fever. Any other records of his I should check out?

I wanted to come in with the generic "You kids now these days", but this album blew the train off the tracks when it came out. Whoever is the director of music at Rockstar deserves a raise. Also Tom is from Florida so...
I didn't know about Tom Petty and I sure didn't know about this song until Rockstar introduced us. Can not stop listening to it ever since. Gonna dig more of Tom Petty and his amazing voice. Thank you Rockstar!
Rest in Peace Tom... you were one of a kind brother... may you sleep with the heavenly angels up above, may your melodies be the gifts you leave behind for generations to hear your spirit last beyond the hands of time...
I always felt like Steve Ferrone upped the ante of musicianship in that band. and that is saying something.. I mean just "watch and listen to the drum part in this song" It is about perfect.... And I mean no disrespect to Stan Lynch who was a fabulous drummer also... Ferrone to me is the most awesome "play for the song" drummer I have ever seen..... If it needs to be there he puts it there and if it doesn't need to be there he leaves it out... And that is what make a "musical drummer"....
I agree, both are very talented. Both have a different groove. Steve's always in the pocket, as a drummer I always believed there are times less is more.
