I work at a comedy club. And Bruce Bruce always rips on me. He spent a weekend getting at me because was in the front serving, so I was an easy target. And he always just had something good to say. I was fine with this...because it was fun and funny. After the weekend he caught me in the hallway...shook my hand...and said, "Thank you for being a good sport." I was shocked of the geniune kindness in this, as it's understood in the comedy club as etiquette to take comic banter with a grain of salt. But that moment really stood out to show what an amazing person he is. I was like, "You can pick on me any time you want, your BRUCE BRUCE!" He just smiled and went on with his day.
I just watched it, and it's about a mayberry local (howard sprague) trying his hand at standup comedy, and pissing everybody in Mayberry off, and then they realize that it's just jokes. It's far from the best episode, and Andy isn't funny in the least in that episode.
@@TheShrededward Of all the episodes of AGS, how many other ones were about standup comedy? Andy Griffith was a very funny dude, with a comedy career before TV, but that's a really deep cut.
@@hottubz1965 Then like i said, you're looking at it wrong. They're overproduced on purpose, and it's funny. Just because you dont see the joke doesn't mean it's not funny. It's only a small number of viewers that decide to be pricks and hate on shit because they can never be fully satisfied with something.
It's amazing how guys like Tom can tell a pointless story about meeting a comedian I've never heard of, and still manage to keep my attention with consistent laughs. Fucking great story teller. His story about GHB had me rolling.

What I like about this comedian is he seems like he's just the average Joe. He tells story's how it is without trying to be funny. Plain and simple, plus he's really likable.

I think Bruce Bruce was having a laugh at Tom's expense on this one. Fun Fact: Out of all 249 episodes of Andy Griffith (original series run), episode 215 is the *only* episode where an African-American has a speaking part (Coach Flip Conroy, played by Rockne Tarkington).
To be fair, the Andy Griffith show was and still is awesome. Its legitimately funny with great characters and just enough risqué innuendo about the characters and situations. The wedding episode with Barney Fife/ Don Knotts in a wedding dress is hilarious.

Watching this now, 5 or more years later, it really is amazing getting to see how he has honed his craft over the years. Hes always been good, but now he is a master. What a talent.
Such a perfectly constructed story by Tom. He gives you everything in the first half that you need to know, gives you a hard laugh with the candy, and then completes it with the Andy Griffith part. I so want this to be based on a true story (I really believe it is)
He is the absolute pinnacle of the Comic View niche of Black Comedy during my time in College. I went to an elite university [cable/satellite was prohibited/outlawed on campus] during the height of Bruce Bruce's career, and we [Afro-American & comedy fans] used to schedule times to view taped recordings of his work.
When you meet other stand-up comics on the road, the potential of this new acquaintance is so big. Like, this dude knows NONE of the stories that have been told to death in my circle of friends! I can tell my best stories again. This means that your flight/drive situation has just become story time between two stand-up comics. Story time with hilarious people that you know can identify with each other? The absolute fucking best. Not a stand-up comic here, just sat behind a couple of those on a bus once, and I have. NEVER. BEEN. SO. ENTERTAINED.
I served Bruce Bruce and his family last night at the restaurant I work at. Was mostly unfamiliar with him but his name did sound vaguely familiar for some reason. My brother sent me this and it all clicked where I’ve heard of him before. Too bad I missed my opportunity to ask him about Andy Griffith 😂

I met Andy Griffith once years and years ago. We were staying at a beach house on a private island (where he also happened to own one) and he came jogging by us on the beach one afternoon. Dude was super nice.

Man.....I have had a SHIT week.... But I've been binging Segura videos tonight....and I feel so so much better. What's funny is....until tonight, I hadn't seen a single thing from him. I mean, I had absolutely _heard_ of him....but that's it. Somehow he came into my life at precisely the right time. Thank you Tom.....from some random person you'll never know. Andy Griffith, Don Knotts, and little “Oppie”, who grew to be the Legend, Ron Howard. It was way before my time, but I watched every single episode as a child. Classic made by the Classics. “I love Lucy”, “3 Stooges”, “Little Rascals”, “Bewitched”, “I Dream of Jeanie”, etc.
When hes talking about the Andy Griffith episode air-date, kinda tripped me out when he said the same date as this video was uploaded. Wonder if that was intentional.
What I like about Tom Segura is his stories but mainly the delivery, he tells every joke like he can’t believe this happened to him. That’s what makes it so funny to me

I can totally dig how enthusiastic Bruce Bruce is for Andy Griffith. The film of No Time for Sergeants is a total howl, as well as his stand-up he was best known for at the beginning of his career (the fifties through early sixties). Of course, it was mostly family-friendly material, which at the time was the best ticket toward film and TV work.
