The guys take a golden-age stroll with the awe-inspiring Man of Musculature himself, Tom Strong. In this episode we discuss Alan Moore's lesser known blast to the past, full of hope, optimism, and plenty of golonka root. Holy socks, have we discovered a kinder side to Uncle Alan?

It reminds me of Alan Moores Supreme. Another overlooked Moore comic hard to get a hold of.

I had a similar experience with Moore's Supreme, the upbeat nature of the book (and the high concepts too) caught me by surprise. AlsoThe Terrifics get my recommendation, definitely!

Loved the ABC line of comics. Moore writing stories with little more of an upbeat tinge... for Moore. The Tomorrow Stories feature Jack B. Quick and his long suffering parents being a favorite of mine. Fun stuff guys, thanks.

They should replace the Stan Lee cameos with Alan Moore but he tells them to their face that their need to save everyone is an immature power fantasy caused by their lack of self-worth. Maybe the tone would suit DC more 😅😝

I love a lot of Moore's ABC line - particularly Top 10 and Promethea - but still haven't gotten around to Tom Strong! I read Smax recently, and it was okay, but I liked less than League and the others. Definitely want to give this one a go soon!

Yes i read the terrific's I thought that it was very good. I don't know how it ended though. So my over all point it that the ending could not be as good as the beginning. Did a couple of reviews on it on my own channel. I have never read Tom Strong though. Would be interested in hearing more of his story.

Talking of Alan Moore, do you know the greatest work he ever wrote that I grew up reading weekly in the mid 80s, 'The Ballad of Halo Jones'?
@ImperiusRex
@ImperiusRex 3 года назад
I've heard of this but never had any idea what it was about... should've grabbed it when they re-released it last year!
@josephde-haan1074
@josephde-haan1074 3 года назад
@@ImperiusRex I'm from the UK and it comes from 2000AD, a kind of weekly comic that collects 4 or 5 stories in 4 or 5 pages each that continue every week. Very different from the monthly American comics at the time. Also at this time many of the stories had a lot of social and political commentary dressed up in Sci-fi. Halo Jones is 3 stories set around this woman who lives in the Future. The first is a weird journey of her and her house mate going shopping in this kind of domed slum city on Erath. The second is her escape from the slums in to a job on this pleasure space cruiser and the third is as a soldier in this future interplanetary war. It was unusual at the time as it was focused on a pretty normal female character in a market dominated by extrordianry male characters. I gave up on comics in the 80s and returned just a few years ago. Still some of my favourite stuff is from 2000AD in the 80s. Things like 'Song of the Surfer', 'Bad Company' and 'Slaine the horned god'. My favourite comic of all time to this day is 'Lone Wolf and Cub'. I'm pretty amazed at some of the developments in comics since I left though. I was never a Marvel fan but now Ennis's (He did a great job on 2000AD's Judge Dredd by the way.) 'Punisher Max' series has over taken The Dark Knight Returns as my favourite from the big 2. 'Marvels' (Which I watched yourt video on.) is a masterpiece. 'Transmetropolitan' was so much fun and relevent in so many ways. 'Bone'was also a lot of fun. Also 'Maus' raised the bar for comics as an art form. Not to mention 'Y the last man' being the only comic ever to make me ball my eyes out. So yes many changes in that 25 plus year hiatus. Anyway, I don't hold Alan Moore as some untouchable comic guru like many seem to but Halo Jone did have an indelible impact on a teenage me so I recommend it from that perspective. Also no rape. A murder yes but no rape.

@@possiblefossilrecords And what is your impression of it as someone who never grew up with a story from over 30 years ago? I ask because I think something like 'V for Vendetta' is very dated and I may have rose tinted glasses over what I think is still Moore's best work.
