Important rule that I think gets overlooked a lot in root is that you cannot craft a card if the item is not available in the supply. That means that any victory points that would be earned for crafting that card cannot be claimed either.

Thanks a lot for these incredibly well done videos. Hands down the best and most thorough tutorials I’ve seen that explain each faction in a clear and easy to follow fashion. Seen them, love them all, big kudos to you, it was a very easy decision to follow your channel. 😉😊

16:52 you say aiding a player twice requires they have 2 items. That is not true. Law 9.5.4 says that you *may* take items, if any, when aiding. Great video and series!

Yeah, that’s a great point. I don’t like the way I said that. I was referring to being able to move up a level - not that you absolutely couldn’t aide them. But you are 100% right and I’m thankful you pointed that out. Thanks!

@@TomTeachesGames Moving up a level only requires that you aid them a "number of times listed between their current Allied space and their next Allied space during the same turn" (Law 9.2.9.I.a). Taking an item from them is always a side benefit (or bonus). It is never required. Again, love the series. Keep it up!

@wichhouse yes I have the rulebook in front of me and can confirm this. The items are a bonus but not a requirement for anything.

I don't think damaged items become exhausted. When repaired they stay on their current side, same true for damaging.

Yeah, the vocabulary here is so tricky. But I feel like you have it exactly right. I likely said it wrong in the video.

Suggestion for next Teaching Video with a cardboard that is grey against white - use a darker background - more pleasing to the eye. I love your videos! You Definitely helped me learn this game so much better!!

26:26 the evening phase says that you repair all items, not refresh them right? Please help, im quite new to the game and came here for basic knowhow (great vid!!)

SO if an allied player attacks the vagabond and gets their pieces removed due to vagabonds defending attack hits, does that player become hostile???

I don’t know why an ally would attack you, but if they did, I don’t think you can defend with their units (that attacked you).

What does the "Score +2 per aid" mean on the least section of the relationship track? I have read the rule book and watched all your videos and can't find it explained anywhere. Thanks.

once you reach the allied state with any factions, if you aid them as in giving them matching clearing card (or bird card), you may take an item from them and score 2 points from doing that.

When you need to discard item tokens, where do they go? Back into the crafting pile? It seems to happen all the time, but it isn’t clarified anywhere. Also, if you unexhaust a tea kettle as part of your birdsong refreshments, can you immediately benefit from that item and refresh more items?

Okay, I remember looking this up.... but it has been SO long that I cannot remember.... did you manage to find answers? If so, would you mind replying and putting the answer here to help other people who might have the same question?

@@TomTeachesGames Alas, I never found out. Despite the multiple rule books, Root remains one of the most complicated and difficult games to get started with my friend group. We’ve only ‘played’ it once, and in the 3 hours we played I think we got through 4 or 5 rounds.

Maybe I'm wrong... But I'd assume that most discarded items go back to their original place (except discarded/lost cards that go into a pile seperately and certain items can't be rebuilt after being removed by another faction). So in most circumstances, it would go back into your pile beside your faction board (almost everything can be reused). And also, usually after you refresh/activate something, if it doesn't explicitly specify that you can use it as a step below the refresh/activation step, it'll be usable on the next turn (this can also apply to certain cards). Although in saying that, I'd assume that discarded crafting items would go back on the map board (if without a S or R icon). Discarded R items would likely be useless as you can no longer open that ruin up. And discarded S items would go back to where they came from (in your pile or the other vagabond's pile).

If you have more items in your backpack than you are allowed to carry, you have to remove items. These items will be completely removed from the game and cannot be regained. Whether you can use the teapot immediately is a good question that I can't answer for sure. Spontaneously I would say that you can use it directly.
