When this song came out and i was 17 years old I loved it for the beat... Little did I know that it planted a spiritual seed in my subconscious mind that has been part of my spiritual awakening in the past 3 years! Very clever Tom Tom Club the starseeds, very clever! What this song is saying to me, based upon my recent spiritual awakening, is to WAKE UP and discover the truth of the grand illusions you are living under in our daily grinds. Open your third eye and discover for yourself that God is above, of course, AND God is also below meaning INSIDE each of us, centered in our heart in a secret chamber within the heart that connects ALL of us together spiritually. The age of Pisces ended in 2012 many say and we are in the adjustment stage of the next age which is the age of Aquarius which will be all about the heart - you know, compassion, empathy, cooperation, etc instead of competition and me me me! terrific. Saw Tom Tom Club on their SUBOCA+EANA tour at the World on Houston Street...met them at the drink line/bar at the Apollo Theater at a Robert Palmer concert a year or so later. Wish they'd tour more often...perhaps with the B-52s!

This song is actually instructions to a golden dawn style ritual magick , ritual. Crowley and the rest did this with something called TATAWAS These were different geometric symbols you would meditate on and visualize going through the symbols to that symbols world on the " astral plane ". There you would get a message or skill or intuition to bring back. They were painted in " flashing colours ", ( sort of neon) so that if you stared intently without blinking the image would exhibit a strobe effect, putting you in a trance.
