We should celebrate tom waits more

Say what you will about Mike Douglas, he didn't shy away from inviting guests whose demeanors clashed with his working-clean nightclub crooner persona. (The John and Yoko week case in point.) And love the interplay with Marvin Hamlisch (who could have been kinder) and Glenda Jackson. I interviewed Tom not too long before this btw and he was tremendously articulate.

He's soo shy in these early interviews, it's kinda sweet: He's just in it for the music and finds all this 'media stuff' awkward. - Feels like it's from a completely different social era (now that the entire Western world is filled with social-media attention whores, all jumping around trying to be noticed by total strangers... )
