Fuck no wonder it sounded familiar. 🤔🤔 I came to it by seen a quote of him that said "i like beautiful melodies telling me terrible things" tom waits. That i found in Facebook and wanted to check out the guy. And fell mesmerized by this song. It blew my mind. It's fuckin insane!!
He sounds like his vocal chord have been put in a jar full of stones and whisky, then he threw the god damn jar into the wall, lifted the vocal cords from the dirty floor and put them back into his throat.. This guys voice is a fucking monster
A critic described Tom’s voice as being soaked in a vat of aged Tennessee bourbon, left to dry in a smokehouse, then taken outside and run over with a car
I'm glad I got sober, before discovering Tom Waits. I probably would've downloaded EVERY album he made, bought a case of whisky, put the music on shuffle, & proceeded to drink myself to death. Having said THAT, I'm glad that in sobriety, I can enjoy his music with a CLEAR head, and appreciate what a unique talent he is. I'm approaching 49 years on this planet, & he's my new hero. Warts & all!
For me personally, it's Waits and Nick Cave. Two very different lyrical/storytelling styles. But, to me, equally gifted at giving you surprising lyrics that tell great stories and also work perfectly musically.
@@Keltik_Thunder I'm super new to TW, just learned of that song from your comment. I'm listening to it now and it is great. This guy, man, so completely versatile
Heard this song in 1992. I knew this song needed to be heard for the rest of the world and not just underground listeners. THANK YOU DAVID FINCHER. You had brought everybody up another level.
@@briancrawford8751Underground has nothing to do with popularity of the album, it has to do with the record label that produced the album. No major record label = underground music.
@@willieearles3151 It was released on Island Records, which was at the time a subsidiary of PolyGram. Try again. It's a major label release that won a Grammy. There's nothing underground or indie about it.
@@mrdavidson9091 No, that's the original one. It has been covered by a dozen of artists, but Waits and his wife Brennan are the composers, first release in 1992
This song is freaggin' awesome to sing in karaoke--everyone in the place looks at you baffled, with that "WTF?" expression on their faces. Sang it at my friends birthday the other day and everyone was shook out of their foundation, unsettled. Thank you Tom!!
I love how he acts and holds that little guitar. it almost feels like one of the satire songs that Hugh Laurie would do on A Bit of Fry and Laurie, ya know?
When I was 20 this album came out and I insisted that I could walk out to this at my first amateur kick boxing match. This was 7 years before fight club by the way. This is the perfect fight song.
This video introduced me to TOM WAITS on MTV Europe rotation in 1992. Been a life long fan since . Imagine MTV now playing TOM WAITS on rotation. Nope?
LOL! I don't even know WTF they play anymore... But would bet money it is awful reality shows.... Even if they do play music it would be God awful.. 90% Of music today is garbage!
this album was so unexpected for me... from sad soft melodic lounge tunes... with a simple guitar and piano... to a devil costume, red heel shoe on one foot and loud screams? Kick ass, and a fine example of what makes tom waits so go damn unique.
I just couldn't get this fucking song out of my head after hearing it in the bar scene in Fight Club.I just have to find it.Now i can finally have some peace of mind
Comments like this automatically get you kicked out of the cool people group 😂 There are people that loved this song way before a stupid movie came out!
1st rule: You do not talk about Fight Club. 2nd rule: You do not talk about Fight Club. 3rd rule: If someone yells "Stop!", goes limp, taps out, the fight is over. 4th rule: Only two guys to a fight. 5th rule: One fight at a time. 6th rule: No shirts, no shoes. 7th rule: Fights will go on as long as they have to. 8th rule: If this is your first night at Fight Club...you have to fight.
Bone Machine is one of the last albums I can remember playing from beginning to end, in order, every time It's perfect in every way and Going Out West' is one of the best songs in history.
He’s the originally heavy metal vocalist with that rough voice. But in an intelligent songwriter way. A folk and rock artist. Tom is such a legendary and has such unusual voice. It minds me of dirt bike walking and being working out being all dirty and muddy with a swamp kind of feel. I just love this.
I remember listening to this with my buddy some years ago. We were off our faces on coke singing this and he put his head through a plywood door. Took 9 stitches like a champ. Ahhhhh the good old days
My goal as an artist is to paint as good , as excellent as Tom Waits can sing, write songs, perform, and …well make music. He is F R E A K I N' AWESOME-Sauce!! Super talented, so soulful, so intensely into what he's doing it consumes his every molecule, yet he still can dance away & take a funny satirical and humble look at what he is & smirk, smile, laugh. Then step back in and sing his heart out till he make you cry. I love this guy.
In 1993 I got Bone Machine eventually wearing a groove in the CD. That afternoon I had already scored some speed and later on on my first playing of the tracks on my trucks stereo system I replayed this song since it was appropriate for the moment . The plan was to drive all night, but I already had some tweak so i made a slight change to the lyrics.
First time I heard this song was in a qotsa cover when they covered this song, I'm so glad I heard this version as well, qotsa cover also has amazing charisma
Tom Waits is an uncompromised artist, poet and musician . He kicks ass and dosn't seem to give a fuck! His music paints pictures of all manner of squalid lifestyles with a wicked sense of humour! Classic track featured in the movie Fight Club.
No one comes close to Tom Waits in the talent dept. I LOVE every evolution and he's changed drastically from beginning to now. The music is outrageously great too.
Maybe not your thing, but i like my Tom to waits with Londons werewolf, Zevon, and see dub stoneking. Kennedy, before dollar shave club snatched it up. And maybard, if you consider the conditions of his parole/turgid tumescence for cuntry tunes
Well I'm goin' out west Where the wind blows tall 'Cause Tony Franciosa Used to date my ma They got some money out there They're giving it away I'm gonna do what I want Do what I want And I'm gonna get paid Little brown sausages Lying in the sand I ain't no extra baby I'm a leading man Well my parole officer Will be proud of me With my Olds 88 And the devil on a leash My Olds 88 And the devil on a leash Well I know karate, Voodoo too I'm gonna make myself available to you I don't need no make up I got real scars I got hair on my chest I look good without a shirt Well I don't lose my composure In a high speed chase Well my friends think I'm ugly I got a masculine face I got some dragstrip courage I can really drive a bed I'm gonna change my name To Hannibal or maybe Just Rex Change my name to Hannibal Or maybe just Rex I'm gonna drive all night Take some speed I'm gonna wait for the sun To shine down on me I cut a hole in my roof In the shape of a heart And I'm goin' out west Where they'll appreciate me Goin' out west Goin' out west
I never really knew much about Tom until I saw this bizarre video. I was floored by it as definitely converted me into a fan. It’s just as humorous as it is dark. But that’s Tom, and there could never be another.
+Nicolás Riveros It was right on everyone's face. Tyler and I just made it visible. It was in the tip of everyone's tongue, Tyler and I just gave it a name.
