@@ConservativeAnthem "I Hope I don't Fall in Love" was recorded in 1972. This song was recorded in '76. Tom went through quite a lot of changes in that time period. I think his raspy vocals are perfect for this song.
1st time I heard his voice was this song,my late mother played it. She was a big fan, found him through Springsteen and Rod Stewart covers. This will always make me cry
Although the Australian song was written in 1880, it's melody has the kind of melancholy strain in some of Waits' material. His lyrics are poetry set to music for me. He has an innate ability to create desperately regretful songs. " Ruby's Arms " and " Innocent When you Dream " convey deep sorrow. A true original composer.
How and why did I get this, in email? I just subscribed and clicked notify. This is my favorite song, the emotions Waits puts in this song! Check wikipedia for Waltzing Matilda, last time I was there it said this is a well known folk song in Australia. I thought this was uploaded by someone else.
Its not the same song! Waits just used the same name for the song but added "Tom Trauberts Blues" Waits song is an original composition by him. Hope that's clear to you now?
Plenty of songs are written with the same title. No big deal. This song obviously doesn‘t describe a story in the Ozzy outback...besides, Tom Waits‘ song is a masterpiece. The other song is quite the opposite
Great common sense comment, Margrit. If you're interested, I covered this masterpiece by Tom Waits, also: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hAAPNVGXM3M.html Hope you listen and enjoy it - Leo
I consider this as the first part of his 70s trilogy (Small Change / Foreign Affairs / Blue Valentines) in the same sense as his more experimental 1980s trilogy (SwordfishTrombones / Rain Dogs / Frank's Wild Years)
Your probably you young to understand the real deep inthrolment of real life and memories and a life on the road to get most of Mr. Waits's lyrics and accompaniment
@@markwood7240 Come on man, that's low. Just because someone doesn't get the same feeling from a song doesn't mean they're inherently less intelligent.
