What do you think about Tom Walsh's technique? Could he do better? Let us know 👇

Please do a review of Jacko Gill, Walsh's NZ compatriot. He's a few years younger and did some insane distances as a junior.

Walsh, like Niklas Arhennius, is very efficient for his weight and height. His technique seems to me to be an excellent blend of the rotational and linear in the power position, whereas Jacko Gill (until fairly recently anyway) doesn't have enough of a linear component at the front of the circle. Walsh lands with the shot further back and has a longer "pull"/"hit" at it, and Gill's shorter pull means he can't effectively apply the same linear (forward directed) power against the stubborn heavier shot. Gill may be naturally faster and if he could have given himself more time and range over which to "hit" the shot from the power position he may well have out-thrown Walsh. Could Walsh do better? Tough question. What could he do to increase his release speed by even a fraction? I don't think there's a lot he can do with his technique that will take him further - except ensure that his left leg doesn't block him in any way. Grunt and speed are key when the technique is sound, so physiological/kinesiological stuff becomes crucial. All imv of course.

My second favourite technique to watch after Adam Nelson's. Tom Walsh is an incredible shot putter who happens to be competing in an incredible era.

Alessandro Andrei never failed any tests, nor missed any tests. His 22.91 still stands, thus he can't be discounted.

Yes, but he was clearly on drugs. As was every other elite thrower at the time. His record stands, but he was definitely not clean.
@leoesharkey1
@leoesharkey1 4 года назад
@@ThrowsUniversity That is simply unacceptable to say. You are saying one should not judge any athlete from that era as clean, which using the same logic implies that we should not accept any athlete now as clean even if they do not test positive?

@@leoesharkey1 Hey man different time. There's a reason it took until now for better training and technique to catch up to distances from the 80s 🤷‍♂️ | BTW Andrei was clearly on drugs. WADA was nothing like it is today and they're still catching up.

@@ThrowsUniversity but he never failed a test and a lot of his comparators did, or were from regimes where the drug use was documented after the fall of the regimes like the DDR. Today's athletes are stronger and bigger than the eighties. I am just saying you have to be fair about comparisons that's all.

See here:www.playthegame.org/news/news-articles/2000/anti-doping-the-fraud-behind-the-stage/. At this point of time this was common behaviour. Beyer later confessed the use of steroids. Günthör also was using it for "therapeutic" reasons witch was more or less "legal" in this time. All the big GDR Throwers surely had a pharmaceutic backround.

How can I build more power and stabilization out of the back off my left foot out of the rotation? My rotational shot suffers compared to my South American technique in warmups. I noticed Walsh is extremely good off his left foot out of the back.

Gotcha. Make sure you push your chest out over your left knee when working around and really push your right shoulder and hip out and around the corner of the circle to create a more stable left. Hope that helps. Thank you for the question 💪

Dane do you feel that Walsh is very quick off of his left at the toe board?
