Hearing the expert information I see why spontoon hawks made sense purely as a weapon.
@wingardwearables
@wingardwearables 22 дня назад
Yeah, they will split into a person in a hurry. Our Empress tomahawk is actually a lot sharper than the historic spontoon tomahawks-none of those came to true edges-at best they were butter knife “sharp”

This is one of the most interesting videos on RU-vid. To hear the history while seeing the craftsmanship and application is a real treat. I've never thought much about the tomahawk as a weapon, & certainly never considered it as a weapon for self defense in today's world. I think I will be watching more content on this channel. Hmm, on this hip, concealed loaded Glock, and on this hip, concealed tomahawk. Has a nice ring to it.

Thank you for the comment-we hope to continue with more interesting content in the near future. A number of our customers do carry their tomahawks as a backup to their pistol. If you hadn’t watched it, check out our video “Blades in the Age of the Gun” 👍

I've been doing combat sports since I was 6 and self defense as an adult, now I'm 50. There's a reason U.S. special forces carry a Bowie knife and a tomahawk along with their side arms. When you run silent or out of ammo, the long range of a tomahawk is a huge plus and it works well in medium to close range combat especially when paired to a medium tang knife. If SHTF and there's no electricity, this pair will be my fighting weapons. I've trained a year with a Katana sword (samurai) and I bet my life that native American Indians would've beat samurais. I hope I never find out, but I've prepared.

Did you ever see the "unblockable throat cut" video by Mastro system? It's interesting, for those of us who are knife people. I think part of it is just moving the arm quick, with minimal telegraphing/setup.
@wingardwearables
@wingardwearables Год назад
I had not. Thanks for sharing this info. I found a video where he was demonstrating this using a training blade on a person, and it looked like a circular arm motion, where he could quickly cycle through the blow. Would probably result in a drawing cut effect which is good for slashing through skin/tissues. Although our tomahawks weigh similarly to knives and can move crazy fast, I think that circular dragging motion wouldn’t help with blade extraction and wouldn’t do much to propagate the size of the wound. The trailing “edges” of most tomahawk chopping blades are not sharp and cannot cut-all cutting is done with the projected chopping edge. The Empress is the exception, since the edge goes all the way to the handle. I have done some testing that shows chopping and “dragging” will open up the size of the wound with the Empress.

I can only imagine your wife and that story. I know what my wife and son would do. Neither like spiders. In saying that I have 8 tarantulas. I’ve seen the videos you described. Just as an aside. Keep the spiders in your house. They eat all the other things you don’t want in your house. Wolf spiders are more afraid of you than you are of them. They will do 100 mph to get away. Loved the video. I’m trying to decide which of your tomahawks I want first. Santa and I will be talking. Have a good Thanksgiving.

@@wingardwearables As I said to my wife half of the house is mine. The nice thing is tarantulas make no noise. Inexpensive to feed. The cash out being buying enclosures as they grow. You would be amazed at what you already have in the house that you can use. Buying sub straight (base material) and mealworms. The tarantula too.

Great video! Saw one of your comments and figured id check out your channel 😀 quick question. You said that you dont wanna pull down you wanna pull out. Would choking up on the ax to get better leverage for extraction help?
@wingardwearables
@wingardwearables 2 года назад
Great comment-I think choking up on the handle is worth looking at with some designs (not ours). There was a video out there of the Cold Steel trench axe, which is VERY bearded, getting struck on a hanging pig, and it got so stuck into flesh-and-bone that the user had to “lever” it out-when it yanked loose the tomahawk came back at him quickly with momentum and he required a second hand to protect himself from being stabbed with the spike. I think choking up to pull out would be a much safer approach for tomahawks with really bearded blades, just as a safety measure. Still, it’s slow and I think some folks would be uncomfortable with the idea of loosening one’s grip to reestablish it on a different location of the handle, in context of combatives. They just sunk an axe blade into a hostile flesh-and-bone target that may still be struggling against them.

I tend to favor relocation efforts with predatory bugs, if they are lost and inside the house putting them near one of the exterior lights is a good idea. Natural first line defense against pests.

If the beard itself is sharpened, would it not cut itself out when the tomahawk is levered out?
@wingardwearables
@wingardwearables 10 месяцев назад
If the trailing edges are sharpened-either on the bottom or the top-it tends to “bite” into target material and get hung up on fabric, flesh, and bone. It’s cutting out from a static position-surrounded by target material. Not a quick process. There are some good videos online of folks (ex: Ed Calderon) extracting tomahawks from pig carcasses-the tomahawks had sharpened beards. Required a lot of levering and forceful yanking to extract-so forceful that the off hand had to come up to block the momentum of the tomahawk as it suddenly broke loose from target material.

Oh shit oh fuck I know what you are talking about... Hair worms, once you encounter one you can't unsee the scene forever. Don't worry though they are not comparable with vertebrates, a man who drank water with hair worm larvae can feel some stomach discomfort, but the larvae can't hatch. Also they can enter the body via anus or urinary tract, but that's very, very rare, and cause no serious problem, too.
