Hey every one me and my buddy bill decided to go to Tamales bay there was Gail force wind warning on the ocean and I heard of some halibuts being caught on jigs and trolling some we met lake that morning at 7 am do to the tides. Than headed to the bay arrived there to not that many peopled great over cast weather with a slight west wind. the bay looked great and I didn't want to take the time to catch live bait so we started jigging with tube jigs and chris brown style of jig that has caught me lots of halibut in the past. We also had rods out for bait and we caught 2 jack smelt on the first drift and did 2 reset for no biters and talked to a great viewer in his kayak hope he's a subscriber and we decided to run down the bay and try trolling. There's normal more action back in the bay but there are lots of shorts and you don't normally catch the big halibuts trolling. we ran to the first spot and trolled trayed anchovies with dodgers and flasher and even tried hoochies for nothing and moved on to the next spot and boom fish on the first fish came on the hoochies with dodger and a anchovy and it was to small than bill hooks up on a salmon dodger and anchovy. That was a way nicer fish and I bumped it with the net and it took off but we didn't loose it and I neted it when he reeled it back up it end up being the biggest fish of the day a 32 inch halibut. We kept making pass and head back in the bay a little and kept picking off halibut I ended up catching my limit for the day. We also caught 2 shorts and 4 keeeper we also lost 2 and missed one bite the fish are there and they are biting its time to be out there fishing. We used seeker and cal star rods with accurate and shimano line counter reels and regular reels with 65 power pro braid to spreder bars and we used salmon dodger and home made Salmon flashers. I was using 40 lb. tribune big game with 3/0 Gamakatsu with a # 4 treble for all the fish. it was a great day for tamales bay thank you for watching please like and subscribe tight lines till next time!!!

Tomales has always been one of my favorite spots to boat fish, crab and clam. Been making to drive there from Petaluma for over 40 years.

Sweet, seen what looked like you have, the bronze colored Shimano Reel at a pawn shop here on the TX. coast for $36 & I passed it up! All it needed was a little cleaning & I went back the next day to but it & she was gone! I'm still kicking myself in the butt! Love those reels, they just cost so much. But I screwed up

Looks like a great day! I plan to go Kayak fishing there, do you know how many line I can troll/cast by myself on a kayak? I checked but only found 1 line in SF bay. Not sure Tomales Bay is considered SF bay.

You guys should learn about fin split. It's what happens when you net a halibut. That shaker you netted probably died. Why are you netting a fish that's borderline anyway? Get a rubber net or bring those little ones in by hand.
@Bfishin
@Bfishin 2 года назад
Yes I know about fin rot
@andrewbland625
@andrewbland625 2 года назад
@@Bfishin Then...don't net little ones. That fish weighed about 3lbs. Just hand line it in.
