Of course for those who are thinking, you won't get tomato and eggplant on the same plant (the type of flower really depends on the nodes with young leaves). Eggplant here provides its root system to the grafted tomato trunk. Eggplants are thought to be more resistant to soil based pathogens hence people graft tomatoes like this. How big of a difference does it really make? I can't answer that I'm afraid.

For those who think this is waste of time or boring. The most delicious and exotic fruits that are imported to other contents from Asia is grafted from two or three trees. My grandpa used to do that.

So, for anyone who doesn't know what just happened, when he joined the two plants together, over the course of time, the xylem and phloem which are the vascular tissues in the plant, merged and thus the two plants were joined together forming half tomato, and half eggplant. The fruit to be bore will in fact be tomatoes since that is what the top portion of the plant is.

Don,t be confused .its just a grafting .egg plant and tomato both belongs to same famlies and upper part bear tomato fruit. Not brinjal and the lower brinjal part is called root stock basically grafting on a brinjal makes the plant more resistant to over watering or flooding and tomato plants roots not tolerate over water .its the reason

Can you enlighten me to the benefit of that particular graft: tomato on top of eggplant

basically, this technique is called grafting and grafting is possible only within the same species when you graft any plant part it bears its own fruit not the other ones so by this method you get both the fruits from the same plant .in this plant if shoots arise from lower portion of the plant it bears eggplant and the upper part which is grafted bears tomato .
