My parents gave me coal one year as I was being a real piece of garbage, tell you right now I was behaving a lot better that year and ever since. A lot nicer to learn a lesson that way then to be hit or yelled at.

Btw, smallpox was first given to the meso-americans by the SPANISH conquistadors. If we want to demonize someone for it, as useless as that idea is, it should be the ones who made it popular
Honest question, not some snide remark; did the Spanish spread it deliberately and purposefully as biological warfare, or were they just unsanitary and ignorant of the larger microbial game at play?
@@It-Will-All-Be-Okay-I-Promise they spread it deliberately yea. They purposefully gave diseased blankets to natives than came in with their natural immunity and enslaved everyone who was left to collect "gold" which turned out not to be there so they sent them to mine silver iirc.
@@It-Will-All-Be-Okay-I-Promise Smallpox originally spread unintentionally. But it was quickly weaponized. The first instance of smallpox blankets was in 1763 by the british.
@@_motho_ The 1763 incident is the only clearly documented case where we can be sure that colonists intentionally gave blankets and other cloth items infected with smallpox to Natives. It is unclear whether it actually worked as intended, though the fact they tried it at all, especially *after* peace talks, is horrific. While there are some indications that other individuals intended to try the same thing, there are no actual records of them doing so. It *certainly* was not as widespread a practice as people believe, and we can't even be sure if it happened more than that one time.
