Daisy Rockwell's translation of Geetanjali Shree's novel Tomb of Sand (Ret Samadhi) does wonders for the lyrical, lexical and linguistic elasticity of words. This post-partition novel, I hope, will bring more light on indian literature and scope to translate works to a Western audience.

Chuma dede is a classic very popular Bollywood song. Plus Sadat Hassan Manto's short story Toba Tek Singh is a must read if you wanna understand the partition.

Wonderful review. I loved the book. This book brings out the pain and loss people went through during the partition. It also deals with the concept that children often think that their parents had no life of their own before becoming parents.

I was not expecting 5:40 in any way! Wow! Just about to start reading this. Cautiously optimistic. A great discussion! Train to Pakistan is wonderful. Sadat Hassan Manto's short stories especially Thanda Gosht and Khol Do are spine-chilling. Other books you may like: The Ice-Candy Man by Bapsi Sidhwa Pinjar by Amrita Pritam, translated into English by Khushwant Singh. Not a Partition novel but set in the time of 1975 Emergency - you've probably read A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry? Right now for me The God Of Small Things and The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida are in S tier Booker winners (though I liked White Tiger too). Fingers crossed for me liking Tombs of Sand.

Oh, good! This makes me even more excited to get my copy. I placed my order and should receive my copy by the end of May or beginning of June, which means the winner will have already been announced. Nevertheless, I still want to read it. Plus, Tilted Axis Press book covers are *chef’s kiss*.

This review is GOLD!!! For partition lit books, well there's a wealth of them. My favourite is Tamas by Bhisham Sahni which one you can find translated by the author himself and one translated by Daisy Rockwell - the translator of THIS book. 🔥🔥 It's truly harrowing but what. a. brilliant. book.

Loved loved this video!!! Also, completely agree on the amount of partition literature there is. If interested, do check out Remnants of a seperation by Aanchal Malhotra. A non-fiction book talking about the materialistic things that were carried by people living today during the partition! ❤️

Embarrassingly, it had been so long that I had read the Devnagri script of Hindi that I found it increasingly hard to get through it. I will definitely try again this year. And btw the attempt to sing Jhumma Chumma was absolutely surreal and hilarious 😂. I would rate it pretty high on the entertainment scale.

If you’re going to sing Jhumpa China without knowing any Hindu, you gotta go for it. The Welsh accent I find brings a beautiful dissonant quality 😂

@@KDbooks Nice!! I always wanted to ask, Is there anything such as Welsh literature which is very specific to the place and it’s people??
@KDbooks

@@rishabhaniket1952 yes we have lots of Welsh Literature, but it’s not as well read. Especially as the majority of books are written in Welsh and not translated into English. The tide is changing in Welsh English-Language publishing sooooo maybe in a few years some Welsh authors will break into the mainstream
