My first tomb raider game , I remember I was so stupid back then running around and got so scare of the dogs coming at me , oh man the memories, need to pick it up again .
That's one of my earliest memories with a video game. Playing the tutorial, learning how to jump, swim, and climb and feeling so proud of myself. Then the dogs showed up and I shut off the game cause I was so scared.
Haha great memories here too... I just found out there was actually a tutorial which explained the game to you... Sadly I couldnt speak english. Me as an 8 year old had no idea what was going on. It was more about surviving than understanding what you had to do. I could literaly play hours finding green sticks and just jumping. Funny how even some music made you really stressed and wanting to quit the game for some time
This was the first Tomb Raider game I ever completed, and I've owned the games since the first one back in 1996. I was young and confused, but after a while the blocky tank controlly engine of sorts just made a lot of sense. I wish I had the knowledge back then to do the modding I've witnessed some folks do!
Hello there! As usual, it has been re-rendered to 1440p for better RU-vid visuals. I've went through the audio and adjusted the volume so that the loud parts like FMVs don't deafen us and so that whispering of characters during cutscenes is actually audible. I've even added some de-noising in some cases. It's not as perfect, but still better than game's default volume and sound mixing mess. It's a fast-paced walkthrough that covers all levels, all secrets and all items, while having little to no healing items used. It's not perfect, but I think it's a good guide and an enjoyable view for those that haven't seen the original uploaded parts. There are time stamps for your viewing pleasure. On a technical level there are a couple of minor flaws: the native widescreen support is a little buggy, there are some PC version bugs. Another thing is that just like with TR4 the capture software had a quirk, where it freezes one frame seconds before the player opens the inventory screen. It's weird, but, fortunately, minor. But hey, now all the high quality archives of TR games are re-uploaded. Who knows what awaits us next.
@@prawdachocbolitoprawdawasw1155 I believe it's on the same key as "look". Default binding is "Ins" and Numpad 0. Then you use arrows to move it around. < and > for zooming in/out.
I remember playing this and thinking "man how far have we come". I had gotten tomb raider 2 with my first Playstation back in 98 I think it was. Pales in comparison to what we have now but man these hold a special place in my heart
Well, if you don't count all the people Lara kills. But, I think isolation was kind of the theme of the first five Tomb Raider games. She interacted with people from time-to-time in cutscenes between levels, but until The Last Revelation, she didn't even really have any friends to speak of (she had Winston, but he just followed her around with a tea tray, groaned, farted, and got locked in the freezer).
maybe thats why im such a huge fan of tomb raider classic, it was my fav when i had my first ps1 as a kid was instant love when i played tr2demo than asked my dad to buy a complete one he got me tr4 man it took ages to finish lmao no youtube vids back than just magazines, tr2 was the hardest tho there was no option to save mid-level in ps1 like tr4 just when finishing a lvl that was insane 1 minor error had to replay everything, tr1 was the same but wasnt as hard as tr2 still remember The Temple of Xian level as it was today so many replays
I'm only 16 years old and I felt like crying, it's just I grew up with tomb raider games. My dad really loved playing it and just pass onto me, used to play them a lot when I was a kid.
Tightrope tip (PS1): Once you've centred Lara keep pressing up/forward and she'll ignore the imbalances. This has worked for me. Good luck, happy raiding and happy 2021 x
it was probably my first tomb raider game ever on psx. Am I only one who always felt that creepy atmosphere at the beginning? Especially in tutorial section. Weird music - almost none, crickets, night, emptiness, no people, strange architecture and flat textures of doors (as a child I thought there was blood on it). Then the dogs and enemies. Literally liminal spaces. I can remember to this day that mood and strange feeling.
@@DfactorLongplays this level was big "food" for my young imagination - I remember the game was too hard for me, I've never unlocked those central? gates with keyholes so I went outside to explore it in my mind ;)
Oh man, I had this on the Playstation! It took me FOREVER to figure out the first level, think I never ever finished the game before selling my stuff off. Great memories and as other comments have said, compared to other Tomb raiders I was like WOW, these graphics are awesome!
I remember playing this game on a Pentium II in the early 2000s as a like 13 year old. Brings back so many painful memories. I spent wayyy too much time trying to figure things out in this game. But yeah back in the days, the Internet wasn't as developed and common.
Chronicles was short, rushed, mostly easy (except the end of the VCI levels, where I got stuck with that damn robot and the poison gas maze), and buggy... but I enjoyed it. It was a total cash-grab job, but I had fun with it, and especially loved the Ireland levels with their spooky atmosphere and focus on platforming and puzzles. Shame that Jonell Elliott's run as Lara Croft was marred by the poor reception this game and Angel of Darkness got - she did a great job as Lara (all of the VAs for her have so far, IMO, with Keeley Hawes being my favorite), and I love her interpretation of the character. She gave Lara a vibe that was more feminine and flirtatious, but still had that dangerous, don't-fuck-with-me edge.
TR4 and TRC were my first full TR games. It was delight to get them being stuck with the trilogy's PC/PS1 demos since the '90s. I wouldn't get the others till 2011. It was a pity, tho, that they didn't have Croft Manor. 2:21-2:54 was an absolute tease.
1:32:36 OMG finally I found the solution After 20~ish years I finally understood today how to get past this lol. back in the day I played the entire game, each level multiple times thinking I missed something and I couldn't get past this. I didn't even know you could actually kill with a crowbar lol.
I initially got a demo of the TRC game and loved it. Then I got a pirated version which did not have any videos. So did not understand what is going on. Why is she going from Italy to submarine? I finally bought the original game in school but could not play it for a year coz my pc was bust. I frequently looked at the box and couldn't wait to play and finish it. Finally I started playing it and got stuck somewhere at the beginning of the Iris episode and could not figure out what to do next and finally gave up. Wanted to know how this ended. After 15 years I am able to now watch the game finish and get closure. So thank you.
Wow I remember now I actually wrote cheats for the game that I had figured when I was messing with the hex editor and the save files. In a way this game got me into software engineering. If you look for this game on cheatbook.de, the cheats for unlimited HK and grapple ammo is submitted by me. 🤓
I always thought the skyscraper was funny. VC is supposed to be an archaeologist, but employs laser turrets, laser traps in his facility where other workers can get to them, high tech energy and laser weapons, and a full-room X-Ray that is constantly on. As someone who works at a hospital, that is an incredibly bad thing that can really impact the health of those around it.
Despite its "black sheep" reputation (and that AVGN video), Chronicles isn't bad at all - I really enjoyed playing it. It sure is a bit weaker than its predecessors, but still is, overall, a very decent game. The Colosseum, The Labyrinth and Escape with the Iris are among my all-time favorite TR levels.
It just doesnt deliver a full plot. Feels a bit like DLC before DLC was invented, because the game is essentially new levels for TR4. Therefore Im not sure why it gets the bad rap
@@KISSbestfan Chronicles was (probably) intended to be a filler game before the release of "amazing" Angel of Darkness, which would have heralded a new age for the series... at least that's how it was presented in a magazine article I read back in the day. But we all know what happened with AoD. I've noticed that the four sub-sections of Chronicles seem to correspond to the previous TR games. The Rome section is like TR1 - more focus on puzzles than combat, and in a classical setting. The Russia section is like TR2 - more industrial and combat-based. The Irish island section is like TR3 - horror vibes and somewhat non-linear. And finally, the VCI section - it completes the story of Lara and Werner's relationship, thus connecting to TR4.
@@AlexeiVoronin they had a contract for 5 games IIRC, and so they did this game. It really doesnt differ from TR4, same mechanics, new menu etc. But those were the days of Playstation, look at Spyro that was a succesful franchise as well, basically the same game with minor tweaks. It was fillerish, plus they had delays on TR6 anyway. Im not sure how the development of the game looked like, but since it feels a bit incompleted this was probably a difficult task. Many people will disagree, but I actually liked TR6, back in 2003 when I played it, I really felt that this is a next gen experience. I remember my dad seeing me play this game and saying "Lara sucks, but the guy you are talking with looks like he is straight from the movie!". But fear not, seeing as TRLE is still very popular, and there are awesome fan projects like War of the worlds, many people still miss Lara classic adventures. It is based off the classic engine, but it was a real huge effort, and looks just like its AoD. Most assets are original, and it even features VA. In my opinion, this could be an official game back in the day. Lara fans rules!
I have been looking for this tomb raider game, I would play it on my uncle's old pc running windows xp but I didn't get the chance to finish the story mode. My uncle would help me pass some tough parts but he passed away 2 years ago and his pc is no longer working. Ah, the nostalgia.
Note that Steam/GoG games are PC versions, rather than emulated PS versions. There are minor differences between the platforms (PC vs PS) and running these on a modern Windows OS requires community patches for best kind of experience.
3:40:15 The chloroform myth: It doesn't make you unconcious for hours nor it is nearly as powerful otherwise either as we are told in the films. Also ventilation shafts are usually so small that maybe rats have enough space to move in them, but not humans. Silencers do not make guns totally noiseless like in the films. Defibrilator doesn't jump the body of the person half a meter into the air, its effect is not visible to the eye. Also there are four cases that may cause cardiac arrest and defibrilator can be used only two of those cases, i.e. in the other cases it has no effect so CPR is over all better (and faster since precious time may be lost setting up defibrilator) trying to resuscitate a perso. There are a lot of other myths too, but here is a few for starters...
28:57 i remember being stuck there for days... i thought you had to jump on top of that swinging thing, even in the movie she had the same swinging thing and she jumped on top of it. but every time i tried i would die smh.. but i figured it out and got passed it
@@hirotrum6810 Actually, I don't remember and would have to compare side by side. PC version has volumetric fog, bump mapping for textures, meaning they look like they have more depth to them. There's also the fact that nothing is warping.
Is it just me or does the voice actress for lara croft sound like Jonell Elliott from lara croft tomb raider angel of darkness by the way despite the controversy angel of darkness is my most favourite tomb raider game 🎮
1:32:27 How the FUCK am I supose to know that! that is, by far, the most cryptic moment I encountered in any videogame. There's just no logic, not a single clue, nothing. I actually approached him crawling but he detected me, so I discarded that he had something. Not even a clue that he could have something... there's just no human way to know, cuz walking is less stealthy than walking, so if he saw me crawling it was obvious that he would spot me walking. I am sure this game looked up a guide, there's no possible way to figure something like that out, the crowbar is not even a weapon in this game. During the whole Tomb Raider series before this game, there was not even one time that Lara had to use an object on an alive enemy, fuck this game and it's cryptic bullshit
It wasnt that difficult to do, come on. Besides, he is not really an "enemy" to be precise, because he would attack you, but all the enemies can be killed with weapons. If you use cheats to get yourself guns, you cant kill him
man i never finshed it personally but i remember my brother playing it and constantly getting stuck for hours on each level .... he trully got stuck for weeks in the part where you have to craft a slingshot and shooot the bell... he just couldnt find the item and i randomly saw it while watching him.... man the memmories
I didn't actually hate this game although it has a bad reputation. I found it all pretty entertaining until the very last level which was just stressful 🤣 I loved all the cutscenes and me and my dad still quote them to this day "Not to lay a finger on you, remember silly?"
@@DfactorLongplays Oh yeah, people were calling it rushed, short, easy, buggy... I mean, all of which were true, to be fair. I still liked the game myself, though. But I think back when it first came out, people were just getting tired of Tomb Raider and the games being pumped out, especially with Chronicles and Angel of Darkness having the issues they had.
I'm not sure what makes you think that this is a console version when the thumbnail/description state it's the PC version. You can buy it on GoG or Steam. This video originally was made almost 10 years ago, so I don't see how PC specs from 10 years ago would be relevant. You do not require high-end hardware to either run or record it. The ways of recording games has become more accessible throughout the years, so it's best for me to point you to OBS Studio for capturing footage. I would suggest hardware-accelerated encoding for capture such as NVENC(new) for Nvidia cards. The game itself had widescreen patch applied. Nowadays to run it on a newer Windows, it's best to apply community patches such as Tomb5.
The surge of untold power at 1:46:18 was so unimaginably strong it literally destroyed the game process (error screen), resulting in inability to progress further. Turned out the disk was flawed at that exact moment (it lacked some sound files iirc). In retrospect, a pretty funny coinsidence... or not?
I played this game a long time ago. in fact, I remember walking home from school one day and I found a CD with a black under layer which was a PS1 disc. I turn it around and it's Tomb Raider Chronicles. but I didn't have a PS console at the time so I couldn't play it. there was a review of Tomb Raider games by James Rolfe as the Angry Video Game Nerd and there's a quote by Andy Sandham who was one of the developers and he was quoted as calling this game "a load of old shit". that they were just doing it for a paycheck.
I don't know the developmental history behind them, I think they were created purely as an attraction, to catch the eye. Same goes for a few loading screens. It's funny, because the stuff shown in 4/5 attractions is not possible to do in the game itself.
@@DfactorLongplays at least TR3 got it right when they actually showed a bit of the London Aldwich level. In this game, I don't remember Lara punching somebody into a fire pit or whatever that was in the fourth screen. Also, I don't remember her getting a desert eagle because by the time the VCI level starts she's got the HK.
The last revelation one was probably the one that was the most like that. At least for me. The longest game out of the original series also I’m pretty sure.
Hated the Trojan head part. You even here that thing zapping In the background despite not Seeing you. That thing has a mind of it's own. There's a glitch in which you turn the knob and he'll shoot you and You still be alive.
She "died" in The Last Revelation. The idea of Chronicles is her friends remembering a few interesting episodes from the past and the ending with Von Croy finding her backpack. But at this point Angel of Darkness was already a concept, evident by the bonus FMV.
Could u help me find a TR game.? It was after Tr4 and not Chronicles. It starts on a street, shes working her way up the buildings. Shes wearing demin jacket and jeans. I played it controls were abit awkward getting her to walk proper. Wud be great if u cud remember it. Probably impossible from what little i remember. Heres hoping. Ty
Hey guys.Does anyone knows how to turn laser sight on for Revolver?I mean which switch on keyboard to use?I've tried many times all of them and it doesn't work 😟 ....
That opening on the wall at 54:00 doesn't show up here, there is a space to hold but not to get in, that wall is closed here =\ is it a bug? I can't go in there :(
Can't say I've experienced that one nor I've read about it. I think as soon as the cutscene with the crumbling floor starts the game should open that crawlspace, so it sounds either modded or buggy. I would suggest reloading a prior save.
It was never made clear in the black isle , did Father Patrick and Lara succeed in their attempts to banish the demons from the Isle and what about the hanged man in the gallows tree did he eventually released or find his way out of this fated?
@@DfactorLongplays thank you for your reply, i suppose father wasn't in his best form , if a prist himself wasn't able to banish demons but Lara herself who was just an inexperio child was able to did it alone :p
21:39 how the hell did they expect you to know that door was openable. Like no visual cues or anything and even the door that is just facing you has zero interaction but this one by the corner can be opened. I spent 1 month here🤦♂️🤦♂️. Cause of stupid things like this I never finished this game on my ps1
I don't exactly recall this door's particular behavior, but in classic TR often times "actual" doors or grates could have Lara run into them infinitely. Another trick was to tilt the camera next to the door to have the camera clip through it. With both methods it was possible to differentiate the difference between that and just a "wall".
@@DfactorLongplays I tried that and didn't work..what worked though is crawling a step back from the hole and then moving forward and pressing jump. Thank u so much as always ❤😊
If you mean running jumps, then it's practice. While moving you can jump at any time, but you have to have precise timing and measurement of the trajectory, otherwise Lara will under-jump. There's nothing shameful in doing a full stop, hopping back 1 block and doing a running jump, since that is a guaranteed way of succeeding.
The cheapest and easiest way would be waiting for sale on either Good old Games or Steam. Naturally, those would be the PC versions. For pretty much all of them you'd need community patches: Tomb1Main for TR1 Tomb2Main for TR2 Tomb3 for TR3 Tomb4 for TR4 And there's a all in one community patch project for AoD. You could find out more details and pcgamingwiki. Patching usually requires extracting files from an archive and pasting them into the game folder, this requiring basic PC knowledge. Alternatively, you could wait until remasters of 1-2-3 come out in February of next year. It's also possible to pick up used copies of PS1 versions and play them either on a PS1 or emulate them on PC.
