The facets of music and its ever-evolving nature have given rise to a new breed of artists and musicians. DJ Young Samm aka Got Damn Samm is a DJ, producer, director, song writer and artist that leads in the 3rd generation of Houston underground rap . He is constantly pushing the envelope and is perfectly poised to change the status quo of the industry. Samm began to rap at the age of seven after stepping into the studio with his father, Romeo Poet to record a song. Later, as a preteen he began to teach himself how to build & work on computers. Which led to him recording, mixing & making beats thru computer programs, like Fruity Loops & Magix Samplitude. His name began to buzz in the streets by locals while gaining the attention of his peers who were also young and wanted to rap.
Taking rap seriously in the 7th grade led to later in high school, him joining a group called “Triple A Mobstaz”, which helped carry his name through the streets of Houston.
After graduating from Booker T. Washington High School, he stayed on the couch of legendary Dj, Dj Chill. Chill gave him music industry knowledge & connections with artists. Meanwhile, he would use his studio & dj equipment to better his skills. Samm & Dj Chill later opened a store called “The Chillfactor”, where they pushed out mixtapes, shirts, shoes, clothes & studio time on the Southside of Houston. He has had sound advice and grounding through the words of DJ Chill, who uses the phrase “put God first & he’ll put you first” as his mantra. DJ Young Samm is the embodiment of originality and uses his experiences and musical acumen to create an authentic and original sound.
Samm has had a vast array of musical influences . He names his father Romeo Poet, Mc Hammer, Master P, Manny Fresh, Jermaine Dupri, Mr.Lee, Get Boys & Slim Thug as a few of his pushes into music. This all culminates in DJ Young Samm producing a musical experience that is unique, fresh, but still steeped in everything H-Town. He was introduced to Slim Thug & his brother Rayface by his early mentor Killa Kyleon, who also helped pave the way for Samm. DJ Young Samm is a well-traveled musician and appreciates every opportunity that comes his way. As an artist, he has performed at SXSW and As a Dj he toured the U.S & Canada with multi-platinum recording artists Slim Thug & Big Krit, and is still traveling as Slim Thug’s road dj.
He released his first full film “Live Love Laugh” in 2017, starring the comedian he once managed “Dat Damn Monty”. Wearing many hats in the entertainment industry, Samm self taught himself many skills to empower his greatness. Being one of the first Djs to break artists like Kirko Bangz, OTB Fastlane, Kentheman, Megan Thee Stallion & Sauce Walka, who he shot a video for that went viral ("Everybody" with Slim Thug), just to name a few.
Currently his focus is building his company “Break Dem Boyz Off Ent.” to be an empire in Houston that produces music, movies & bringing light to local talent that he feels deserves a shot. His underrated album “The Streets Is Mine” went under the radar but continues to gain attention as he exceed higher in his career with the leading single “Jungle”, featuring Houston’s rising stars Yung Martez, Junebug, J-Stead, OTB Fastlane, Big Bad Kab & Doughbeezy.
Houston’s music scene can be a jungle at times but Samm has navigated it and amassed some pivotal connections in Hip-Hop. His sound can be described as an original H-town swang and bang soul with splashes of trap. He produced music for Propain, Slim Thug, Lil Keke, Killa Kyleon, Mistah Fab & many more. Directing over 300 music videos, producing hundreds of songs, countless hours in studios, djing 3 to 5 nights a week for over 4 yrs. This exhibits his versatility and prowess and will surely cement his legacy if continued on path. Putting in his 10,000 hours, Got Damn Samm wears his name well!
