This walk begins by following the Tomies wood path in an anti-clockwise direction for approx three kilometres. Near the southernmost point of the trail, I veer right onto relatively uneven ground and continue my way southeastwards towards the large swathe of forestry that surrounds the flank of Glena mountain. Upon navigating my way through dense and challenging woodland, I emerge onto the western shore of Lough Leane a short distance away from Glena Cottage. From Glena cottage I continue my route southwards and then eastwards towards my destination at the Old Weir Bridge.
At the point of departure from the the Tomies wood path, this particular walk becomes quite difficult in places and requires some careful navigation along a faintly perceptible trail that meanders its way through some very dense and overgrown woodland. There is also some moderately steep descent to be encountered before exiting onto the lakeside.
