One of the most beautiful tunes ever written, played by two of the most accomplished guitarists of our time!!

Two freakishly amazing musicians, from Australia. The only difference between them - one chose to tour the world, become famous an leave family life. The other - chose to stay home and have a family. Both, world class monster guitarists.

I gave up a career as a singer songwriter when I was 32, I am now 66 and never ever got to record my original songs as I couldn't afford it but my family, children and friends needed me and I don't regret looking after them kind of as they had no one else. Sad my songs have never been recorded as they are deep and meaningful, very deep, always wrote them to help others to identify and lead them to find answers with words that lead them to their own truths. It's a strange world as I never would have wanted fame.... just to record..... My voice is still good although thinking that won't last. I can understand both sides of creativeness . I had met Phil many times and loved his character and talent so to see the 2 brothers on u-tube is absolutely precious. They play so well together.

66? Come now, my neighbors are over 80 and they play in a jazz band, travel Australia and have purchased a cheap recording setup. You are never too old for anything. 60 is the new 30. I implore you to endeavour to record your beautiful songs, perhaps a preloved personal recording setup or seeking a new friend to assist? I for one would be most keen to enjoy your heartfelt music, as I am sure many others would also.

What do you mean? They both tour the world and are famous and married

@@pinetree4600 Phil rarely went overseas unless it was at the invitation of Tommy to appear with him. For decades, Tommy would be playing to thousands of paying music lovers in upscale theatres all over the world, while Phil would be playing the local pub in front of 50 or 100 people for free. Very sad as Phil is as stellar a guitarist as Tommy, but in the electric vein. Unfortunately Phil is no longer with us, he passed away about 18 months ago
@cocolossal69

@@richardkenna149 I doubt very much that Phil would have been playing anywhere for free. He has always been a highly respected musician here in Australia, even without the world touring. I also would imagine that he was pretty happy and satisfied with the path he chose, so I don't think sad is the right word here. It's pretty obvious that Tommy was always way more extroverted. His dream was always to be doing what he is doing. He paid a pretty high cost for that too, maybe Phil simply wasn't willing to sacrifice as much as Tommy was, which is absolutely ok. What is truly beautiful is that they always created absolute magic every time they came together. Lucky for all of us. Luckier still that someone actually captured it on video. Happy days.

A GOAT melody for fiddle or guitar, and this amazing version is about as good as it gets! Great musicianship!

Tommy!!! Saw him when I was 12 or so and he stinkin' broke me. Could never take myself seriously on guitar from then on. Love this song... and he does it justice for sure.

He continues to break guitar players every day. He breathes rarified air that very few will ever breathe. I might quit myself after seeing so many people go way beyond where I ever could here on RU-vid.

Played with Phil on a Country tour, 1999, in Australia, our country, and I'd play some Boots Randolph tenor sax, so, he went into Duane Eddy things at high speed and awful keys.., but, later, I did some little things on recorder, El Condor Pasa, and he did some lovely delicate touches. Super memories...

Hi, I also have a version of this song uploaded that was filmed in Nashville that you might want to watch - it's Tommy, Phil and Mark Pritcher (president of the Chet Atkins Association) on violin which is very good too. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Mr Emmanuel, no offense but check out Bill Tyers on Ashokan Farewell, he is a lot closer to the way Chet Atkins might have handled this song.

Tommy's a showman as well as a musician. If he wasn't hamming it up when on stage, you might as well be watching a CD player.
