Tommy Cooper's Grave - Famous Graves 

Hi. This is John Cooper, nephew of Tommy. Thank you for the video and kind words. I used to love going to visit Tommy at his house in Chiswick. As youngsters Vikki and Thomas, my sister Sabrina and I would have fun playing. I used to pick Tommy up as an adult to bring him to family functions. We would stop and many pubs on the way back to our home in Cookham. He loved meeting people in the pubs and making them laugh. At my first wedding, he had the waiters in stitches plus all our guests. After Gran died, Tommy died followed by his son Thomas, my cousin. I remember the press headlines of the COOPER CURSE. Then my father died so I decided best get out of the UK and moved to South Africa ( so far so good ). Sadly my sister Sabrina was murdered in Eastbourne last year which has left another hole in the family. Anyway, very proud to be related to Tommy and may his memory be a lasting legacy for comedy forever.

His memorial is not a stone in an overgrown cemetery, it is the laughter he left behind for people. He was one of a kind.

The only comedian who could bring the whole audience to fits of laughter without saying or doing anything. The world became colder on the night he passed away and I am sure like so many miss him dearly and always will. I was thinking the exactly the same thing as you Paul that this hugely talented man who taught the world to laugh that his final resting place seems totally inadequate?

Such a shame that his grave is not better kept, at least. Its like he's been forgotten in there, but those of us who saw him will never forget him.

I met Tommy when I was about 10 or 11. His relative (I called her Aunty Vi) lived 2 doors away from us in Exeter. She invited us for Sunday tea, when he was visiting her - she knew that my Dad was a fan. My dad was crying with laughter as he performed some of his 'magic tricks' "Just like that"... and I was mostly oblivious and enjoying jelly and ice cream. I can remember that Aunty Vi actually resembled Tommy (she was 6ft tall) and her husband was a very slight man of about 5ft 5. RIP Tommy and Aunty Vi.

Tommy Cooper owned a holiday cottage in Motcombe Lane, Ocklynge - probably only half a mile or so from where you were stood next to his gravestone. Against the wall of that cottage can be seen a wrought iron black metal silhouette of the great comedian - complete with fez and magic wand. I know it so well as my grandmother had a cottage near by.

I can remember watching the show live from her majesty's theatre when he collapsed and died, I like every one else thought it was part of his act ,how awful the audience must have felt when they found out the truth of what really happened,

Absolutely right, his grave seemed to be a little forgotten. As you say, the man was a comedy genius.

Loved how Tommy took him ages to perform a really rubbish trick. Yet his comedy timing was too a tee. Absolutely a very funny man. ❤️

I watched his last performance and that awful slide down the curtain with a stunned expression on his face, then falling backwards as the audience roared with laughter. I knew straight away something was wrong but was distraught when they announced he'd died on stage. Thank you once again Paul, a beautiful tribute

Hi Paul, Tommy Cooper was my dad's favourite comedian, he did the "Just like that " just like Tommy he drove my mam mental I can still see the look on her face 😀 those were the days. Cheers Paul as always take it easy 👉 .

Tommy was born in Llwyn Onn Street Caerphilly identified by a blue plaque and not far from where I live. Amazingly the world famous Club Double Diamond was only across the street from his birthplace where he returned to play along with many stars. The club is now a housing estate but we have a life-size statue in the town centre. Lovely upload as usual.

A legend. I remember watching him the night he died. We were all laughing in our house. Always felt guilty about that. 😢

Huge memory for me as a 12 yr old at the time and loved tommy cooper. I was sent to stay with family in slough due to the death of my father in 1974, and stayed just along the road from his shop. I went in the shop (like an aladdins cave to a child) in the hope of seeing him and bought a bulb that would light up when a ring on your finger touched it...I was served by his brother who looked so much like him. Never got to meet tommy though...But will never forget it.

A true legend that used to have me and my family is stitches of laughter back in the 70's. His style was totally unique, an ability to make people laugh without seeming to even try. A comedy genius. We were blessed with so many comedy greats in that era, and Tommy was up there with the best of them. I wondered why his memorial was looking so 'old', it then dawned on me that 40 years have passed since his death. Thank you Tommy for all the real belly aching laughs you gave to me and my family all those years ago.

I agree Paul, what a shame to see his resting place so neglected. There should a be a memorial somewhere as big as the laughs he gave us all. 🙏🎚❤️

I saw Tommy Cooper live at the Bournemouth Pavilion in the laste 1950s. What better way for a performing comedian to go; with the sound of laughter in his ears.

Tommy's death was the beginning of the end of real comedy I was watching the night he died was so sad. The talent just oozed out of him he didn't have to speak and you were in hysterical laughter that can't be taught or copied he was a one off and he deserves better they could at least cut the grass take care of his grave. Rest in peace Tommy the brightest star on stage and in heaven I bet that twinkle has never left his eye

Thankyou Paul,I did not no his ashes and his sons and wife,were buried in Eastbourne.I was watching the night he was on stage,and slide down the curtains.I thought it was part of the act until they quickly went to the commercials.I felt so sad when I heard that he had died,he was such a big character and so funny.We have lost so many good actors and comedians now,it is sad that there are no shows like there were back in the seventies.It is such a shame that there is nothing better to remember him by,no nice flowers on his resting place.Thankyou Paul,as usual you have told his story so well.❤️❤️❤️

A great comedian, thanks for visiting him. When I was a kid a friend and I visited Thames Television at Teddington. We were trying to get some badges and bits and pieces from the Magpie office. We went into the reception and there was a man and lady in front of us. The man stepped back and didn't know we were there. He said sorry and when I looked up, a long way up, there was Tommy Cooper.

Tommy Cooper was a legend in his own lifetime. He was an extremely funny man - although I didn't appreciate his humour until I was a lot older - he only had to walk on stage and the audience fell about laughing; his tricks nearly always went wrong, which is the mark of a true genius. He died doing what he loved doing the most: entertaining and making his audience laugh; such a sad way to go, but most fitting. R.I.P. Tommy 🕯

Watched his final appearance that night and like so many other's thought it was part of the act. No social media in them days, only finding out later on the news. Quite fitting that he left us with the laughter of his audience as a farewell. RIP Tommy.

I still remember that awful night ,I was only 7 at the time. I watched the show with my parents who were huge fans, we all thought it was part of the act then I remember my mum saying there was something wrong then we saw the newsflash. He had that natural ability to make people cry with laughter, lovely man much missed. Bless him .

Tommy cooper name still resonates even all these years later he made so many people laugh throughout his career so sad that he passed away on stage but equally quite fitting how much the stage meant to him over the years how much he loved it in the end I think that’s how he would want to go another great video rip Tommy ❤️ thank u again Paul

At last! I remember watching the royal variety performance when he passed. He just used to stand on the stage without doing anything, just look and people would just laugh, including me. I don't know how many times I watched the glass, bottle, glass...I knew what was going to happen and still laughed. He was just brilliant. Thanks. Wish I had met him.

Thankyou Paul for the tour .Tommy was one of the reasons I have been practising magician for many years now. I went through a stage where I tried to copy his style, but there was no way, he was one of a kind, an amazing entertainer and magician. Doctor it hurts when I do that. Then don't do it ! That type of class comedy these days are unfortunately a very rare thing. I remembered seeing his last performance on tv, and yes if he was to go, then be it on stage where he was happy. Great memories and never forgotten. Rest big man.

I will always remember this master of comedy as a child watching on a b/w tv set ,my father was a quiet man and never really showed his emotions apart from comedy shows of the 60/70’s his favourite was Tommy made my dad laugh and that’s the memory I cherish so god bless this genius of comedy .

Tommy Cooper was my father’s favourite comedian/magician. I can remember him laughing uproariously while watching him on tv.

He was a comic genius. I was 16 and was watching whilst it happened. We all thought it was part of his act. He died doing what he loved. No better way to go x

Brilliant Tribute Paul, I saw theTommy Cooper show when I was 7 or 8 with my mum and dad at the theater in Torquay. He was Brilliant.

I can picture him stood there next to his grave, looking at it and saying " what do you call that ?...........is that it " and then looking at us and doing his laugh 😃 . I can really remember years ago, my dad used to laugh so much at Tommy Cooper when I didn't really understand what was funny as a child . I often thought my dad would die if he didn't stop laughing and breathe. Thanks for taking us to him ❤

I remember him in the cobwebs pub in Richmond, I was only very young,and remember him as a very tall man with huge feet, He did have a big drink problem, and would constantly get barred from the pub,😁 I always remembered him being cremated in mortlake, He was always funny with me and my sister, and he always bought me a bottle of coke with a straw and a packet of cheese and onion crisps, Rip tommy

I have good memories sitting with my dad watching the Tommy Cooper show and having a lot of fun. Even watched the last show.

It’s astonishing that he left us almost 40 years ago. But the one thing stars like Tommy left behind is their comedy. Pure. Innocent. Wonderful comedy all ages can enjoy. Rest in peace Tommy Cooper, thank you for all the laughs 🙏🏻

I enjoyed your journey reminiscing about Tommy Cooper. I know what you mean about his resting place. The Americans look after those who have passed on and keep their resting places lovely. I live in Caerphilly and Tommy has a memorial statue in the touristy area facing Caerphilly Castell. It was presented to the world by Antony Hopkins…. A fellow Welshman…. And he did him proud. RIP 🙏

Tommy was a legend in his own comedy style. The most stupidest trick could go wrong but it was so funny. I loved him. I was surprised by the state of his grave but maybe family didn't want to put anything elaborate which was a shame as he was so loved by so many. Another good video Paul x

Wasn't around when Tommy Cooper was performing, however as many of us will probably have done, I discovered his work through re-runs on TV and through the medium of the internet. Even to this day, he's one of, if not the best comedy magicians to ever perform

I was lucky enough to meet and serve Tommy, in Jersey back in the early 80’s in the inn on the Park, he was a big gentleman and truly hilarious. Loved his Brandy👍🏻

Hi Paul, back when I was a teenager in the 70's I remember seeing Tommy Cooper at Bristol Airport I was going on holiday with my parents back in the days when you had to walk to the airaplane and looking across the tarmac was Tommy Cooper he wasn't close enough to talk too but I distinctly remember his face and and apart from being incredibly tall he had very large feet, he was getting on a small single engine plane, it was the first time I'd ever seen a Celebrity and even to this day it sticks in my mind, unfortunately Comedians of that time like Tommy Cooper are so easily forgotten and after all the joy he brought to people's lives it's a shame that his grave isn't in better condition.

thanks again paul for taking us along with you to pay our respects to a much loved magician/comedian in tommy cooper,the famous saying by tommy was just like that, still resonates today with us, i still can see his assistant putting his cape on and a huge outburst of laughter when he said i dont feel well and collapsed on stage dying of a heart attack (just like that) one of the saddest moments ever to be witnessed live on tv so r.i.p tommy never to be forgetten

Hiya Paul,I lived in Slough n remembered COOPERS in the high St. It was a place of mystery n fun,it was a place where I remembered nagging my mum n dad to go in as a youngster,I'm 48 now!!! It has a plethora of tricks,treats,n costumes to try on and remember it having glass top counters either side of the very deep long shop. The thing that has always struck me most profoundly about all the people whose resting places you have visited & shared with us, Paul, is how humble & ordinary the grave sites are. I know such an observation seems slightly absurd, & celebrity ultimately has no value in itself. But many of these wonderful & beloved people down the ages marked, & still mark warm & emotional moments in our lives, that evoke memories that unite us all, even though we'll never meet. It's sometimes a little disquieting to remember that however we spend our lives, & whatever triumphs & heights we may reach, - talent, fame, fortune, - in the end, we rest in a quiet little plot in a forgotten overgrown part of a churchyard that hardly anyone ever visits again. Whatever we did in life, all we ever truly leave behind us when life is done, all we ever amount to, is the way we helped make other people feel about themselves. That, is truly priceless, & lives on. Kenneth Williams once said in a documentary about his life: 'What if life is just a stage? What is the point of it all? What if it's all just a joke?.. Well, if it is just a joke, let's make it a good one!' RIP Tommy..

I also watched the performance when he died. Everyone thought it was funny and part of his act as he slid down the curtain, I don't think he would be upset by that at all ? He was unique and an act that nobody has been able to replicate.

Appreciate the respectful video Paul of such a legend. I was born 1977 so was only a young child when he passed but remember it vividly as it was around the same time my grandad passed away. It was such a different time for those men and women born in the 20s and I often wish I'd been born earlier just to experience the way life shaped people of that era. Been a massive fan of his since I was very young. Can still remember watching him with my grandad when I was 8 and us laughing at what we thought was his act and like so many other viewers not realising he was dying. It's so sad what a true talent. Thankyou for sharing this video.

Tommy actually died at her majesty’s theatre live on tv , I watched and thought acting like he did , went to tv commercial . Don’t think anything was mentioned at time of what had happened. Shame grave not better cared for . Thank you Paul for taking time to do these videos they are absolutely brilliant
