If this episode was twice as long I'd have watched all 4 hours and 28 minutes in one sitting. I was enthralled the whole time I watched this. What a cool & humble guy.
I love how all the 80’s legends do the Gonz voice/imitation. So hilarious. Great episode. My second ever board was the PP Guerrero 🗡🔥 mini; OG Vision Gonz was my first.
I remember a Real Demo at my local shop in Chantilly, Virginia in the winter of 1989, I think. It was the first tour they did. The shop had no ramps set up or anything, so the team went to an underground parking garage and skated WITH all of us young skate rats instead of performing for us like celebrities, and it was one of the raddest things of my youth. I know Thiebaud was there. Not sure if Tommy was there, but it was great. BTW, this video really made my day. It was one of the hardest days I've had in a long while, and to come home to this interview really made me cheer up. Thank you Nine Club.
Did you go to a demo in Maryland at a shopping center parking lot. Tommy g was there. Do you remember that? It was probably 90-91? I can’t remember where it was. I’m sure there’s video somewhere.
Lol, I started skating before I started playing basketball. I didn't even know Air Jordan was a real person. I didn't even know Jordan's were a sub- brand of Nike. I saw Chin and was like, "what are those, they're so cool!" Then it all started to come together. I started playing basketball about a year later and that's when I figured out Michael Jordan and Air Jordan were the same person. And then the funniest part of this all is that my parents were so cheap I never even got a pair. I actually just had regular Air Force 1s that I colored with markers in red blue black and whatever. Thirty years later, I've still never owned a pair of Jordan's.
Great episode guys, Tommy was such an entertaining guest. I think Ray Barbee or would be a nice guest too. He's such a cool person ... or Matt Hensley ... Mark Gonzales, John Lucero just one of the legends ... Heath, Aarto, Geoff, Ronnie, Donny B, Brian A, Bastien S, Kareem.... still so many interesting skaters. Keep on with fantastic work, all compliments from Europe
TG is the man. I liked what he said about not being a hill bomber and that he would enjoy every feature on the sidewalk. One of the true originators of street flow.
For real! I’m the same way with snowboarding… I try to hit every powder bank, roller, bowl carve and feature on damn near every run. Drives my skier straight lining buddies crazy cuz I’m always traversing around, cutting across trying to take advantage of every feature. I wonder how much of the Bones Brigade & skate videos I would study when I was a grom had an influence on that.
You guys! If you haven't been paying attention to each episode, it was claimed to be Daewon Song to be the 100th! @9Club killing it as usual. Chris great job on guiding the episode.
Had an honor meeting Tommy and his wife in SF and they are really cool people. Thanks TNC for bringing him to the Show. Thank you Tommy for supporting APACHE SKATEBOARDS !
Nice one Sam. Do you still have it? I have mine. At that age it was the skull in the logo that got me to ask for it, as well as the name ''Powell Peralta,'' just sounding cool.
I'm a dedicated skateboarder since pretty much 40 years, anyway if I follow the Nine Club with T.Guerrero, its because I respect him as a skateboarder but also as a musician. What an exemple for a reconversion from skateboard to Music !? And just for other followers like his music, at 1.56.40 he was talking about his inspiration sounds and he mentioned "Ethiopian Jazz", and I can tell you, yes he's right, he certainly listen to this band: "Mulatu Astatqé". Please, check by yourself and you will find one of his inspiration! Respect to everyone reading this and...Stay Firm, keep Rolling!
I skated with Tommy back in the early 90s(91-I think)in San Francisco. He took a small hill and ollied all the way across a crosswalk. It was incredible how high and far!!
So awesome fellas. Tommy was my hero as a kid. His bones brigade video parts always made me wanna skate and those were the first vids I ever saw. I’ve never seen this requested but I’d love to see Quim Cardona on the show. Seems like this might be a connection Roger may have. Keep on rocking out with the show y’all. Last request would be to get Goofy Boy on the show haha.
Great episode! I'd like to hear more about the skaters' injuries and their rehab process. I think the first injury that takes us off the board for a week or 6 months, whether it's major or minor, is just as interesting as a skaters first board. I thought it was pretty cool how he gravitated to music in that time.
I remember picking this CD up at a flea market in the early 2000s, intrigued and surprised to think that surely this couldn’t be the same TG as my skateboarding hero! Talented dude. Great album.
As much as I love the Mutt I feel like Ive heard his story about starting, growing up, switching to street etc a 1000 times. I want a Heath episode !!!
Jason Lee is gonna be in the LA area. Hint hint(episode 100), although he just went back to using a flip phone so it might be hard to contact him via DM.
When he starts talking about music, and how he wanted to be a rapper, all I kept thinking was “I have a friend/his name is Animal/Don’t worry about a thing/he’s not a cannibal/ he’s always happy/he’s got a grin/ have you seen him he’s Animal Ch Ch Ch Chin!”
This is epic. Thank you for putting this up. The song, Organism, is on the American Wasteland song lineup and is an excellent example of how grand Tommy Gurerro is. Cheers!!(A)
I know it'll never happen, but Jim T would be the best 9 Club ever. Until then this TG episode is officially my favorite so far. Best TG interview I've ever seen / heard!
i felt like Chris didn't wanna talk about the music but I was here for music mostly even tho I'm a skater. Tommys music is pure gold. Good stuff nonetheless !
My first favorite skater as a kid. I thought he was the raddest dude on the planet back in the 8th grade. My first real complete was a hot pink bonite xt flaming dagger, had pressure cracks like within the first few days.
I was thinking of maybe doing a "Chris R. fanboy" Halloween costume; which would include some temporary tattoos... including his name and the switch manny sillouette...
I remember watching Tommy's brother Tony doing nose wheelies for days in GG Park on a Sunday. I agree his brother was a good skater. I owned on Madrid board before back in the day, it was a Beau Brown. It did not delam on me at all.
