The song was James' first Top 40 hit in eight years and his last in the United States. The song reached #1 on the Billboard AC chart and #19 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1980 after being released in December 1979. I remember playing this on an 8 track!
@@robertmasina7388... remember on a rainy day we would tune in to soft rock WEZN to listen to these classics...I was obsessed with 10cc 'I'm not in love'
On this day in 1980 {April 19th} Tommy James performed "Three Times In Love" on the Dick Clark ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'... At the time the song was at #38 on Billboard's Top 100 chart, three weeks earlier it had peaked at #19 {for 2 weeks} and it spent a total of sixteen weeks on the Top 100... And a month earlier on March 23rd, 1980 it reached #1 {for 1 week} on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Tracks chart... Between 1970 and 1981 the Ohio native, as a solo artist, had thirteen records on the Top 100 chart, one made the Top 10, "Draggin' The Line", it peaked at #4 for one week on August 8th, 1971... As leader of Tommy James and the Shondells he charted nineteen times on the Top 100, seven made the Top 10 with two reaching #1*, "Hanky Panky" for two weeks in 1966 and "Crimson and Clover" for two weeks in 1969... Tommy James, born Thomas Gregory Jackson, will celebrate his 71st birthday in ten days on April 29th {2018}... * The group just missed having a third #1 record when "Crystal Blue Persuasion" peaked at #2 {for 3 weeks} in 1969, the three weeks it was at #2, the #1 record for those three weeks was "In The Year 2525" by Zager and Evans, and it was the duos' only record to make the Top 100 chart....
Thank goodness for things like the American top 40 replays and the Sirius Big 40 Countdown to keep great songs like this from being forgotten, even by those of us who were around at the time.
I'm glad I was in my early teens when Tommy James and the Shondells was cranking out the hits. Great time in my life. I can still listen to there music but can't bring back that feeling for the music I had back then.
"Three Times In Love" She was all of a lady, you were all of sixteen, You were king of the mountain, she was your queen. You played in the sunshine, you danced in the rain, It was so easy, when love was a game. But, everybody's[Chorus:] Three times in love. Two times ain't enough, only one shines above, Everybody's three times in love. Lovers get older, summer goes away, You knew that it was over so you looked the other way. Suddenly before you, your second time around, Ah, you're older and wiser and you're covering a lot of ground. But, everybody's[Chorus] (Over and over and over again.) Now that you're ready, she comes along, Your ways are steady and your feelings are strong. She is all of your ladies, you are every man. You've both been waiting to find each other, now you understand Why everybody's[Chorus until fade out]
Tommy James and the Shondells were one of my favorite groups when I was a young teenager. I had a lot of their 45 rmp records. Those were great days of music. I love their songs as much today as I did back in the day.
No, you don't hear this great song on the radio anymore!!! A favorite of mine from the Spring of 1980 (8th grade - I remember it well!). This was a comeback hit for Tommy James - and a great hit it is, 38 years later!!! Bravo, Thomas Gregory Jackson!!!
So many great songs we don’t hear anymore. Classic rock stations play about 25 songs. Oldies play the same old stuff too. This makes me think of WLS’ heyday in the late 70s. Miss the great radio of those days.
Love this classic pop song and video. My second all time favorite song by Tommy James as a solo artist. Absolutely one of my favorite songs from 1980 - my senior year of high school ❤. 4:09
Takes me back to when I met my ex wife. She was a red haired, green eyed, beauty from Black River, Jamaica. Very refined, educated, LADY of quality. I am a better man due to my association with her. I think of her every now and then, whenever I hear this song. The tears just flow. You never forget your first great love.
One of the musical artists I fell in love with and The 1st concert I ever went to. Still in love with Tommy James & the Shondells today...nearly 60 yrs later!
My partner was my third love and my one and only. I dedicate this song to us. As Tommy James said Love will always be love no matter what. Thank you Tommy.
Me lembro até hoje de um grande amor,EAO, 1980, incrível nunca ficamos juntos, mas, até hoje, quando a vejo, é como se fosse no primeiro dia, o mesmo sorriso, o mesmo jeito de ser.
Boy, I have to thank MeTv radio for playing gems like this. This song was being played and I thought it sounded vaguely familiar. I wrote it off as a kind of corny forgotten oldie... and then it started growing on me. I did not realize it was Tommy James until I looked it up. I should have recognized his distinctive voice! I’m here now to confess my sin and repent. This is a solid pop tune with a nice melody. Is it a little corny? Maybe... but I like it.
que música mais linda lembro muito da minha mãe E da minha irmã, que não está mais aqui conosco. choro muito de saudades delas!!!!!. esta música é muito marcante. ❤❤❤❤❤
