This is a loved song by our Swedish icons Astrid Lindgren and Georg Riedel. It tells the story of the poor farmhand who works all week but on Sunday when he sleeps instead of going to church. Sometimes he lies with a girl and sometimes he he is fighting, and when his time is coming he thinks God won’t like him because of his little sins But the Lord only sees his struggles in life and lets him Into his heaven.
Astrid Lindgren is the author of, among other things. Pippi Longstocking, who has written the text for the films about "Emil in Lönneberga". Another and perhaps her most famous figure in Sweden. The music is written by George Riedel. Who has made the music for almost all her films. Except Pippi Longstocking. The nature is typical Swedish, one might say.
My generation of swedes, as well as all the following ones (Im born in -65) are brought up on Astrid Lindgrens stories.. This one is about Emil and his adventures in Småland, Sweden around a hundred years ago. The song itself though is about Alfred, the farm hand, who was like a big brother to Emil. The cultural legacy of Astrid Lindgren (and the composer Georg Riedel) in Sweden is enormous. In fact my own son is named Emil after this character. Here is a video with the original song and footage from the tv series that was made in the early 70s. This is part 2, part one was "När vindarna viskar mitt namn" where he, using an ancient ritual, wakes up Leopard shirt Tommy. In the end of that you can hear Fattig Bonddräng in the distant: Metal Tommy hears this and walks toward the sound and it says "To be continued"

Awesome, "Fattig Bondräng" is one of the most iconic swedish songs of sweden you can imagen becuase the song represents the old swedish farming society that wasn't that long ago.
