This division was a good thing. They both have exquisite taste and talent. It was about time that Tommy struck out on his own. Of course, some staff would choose to work with Tommy. They would have more opportunities to stretch their wings. Other designers have left Sarah and went out on their own - and have done very well. Good for Tommy. Everything must change. Don't hold them to a standard that you wouldn't want for yourself.
You wrote this? Tommy and Sarah were NOT business partners. I've watched all the shows and Tommy was a STAFF MEMBER who worked FOR SARAH at HER design firm. She gave him (just like the other staff members!) an opportunity to showcase his work while working FOR SARAH at HER design firm with various clients, allowing them to lead on design projects. Personally, I think Sarah allowed Tommy too much visibility...and being a personal friend of her husband's, allowed him more access than she should have. Tommy was seen as the "best friend" who was a talented designer, but Sarah was the boss and Tommy worked for her. Sadly, Tommy decided to leave SRD (after becoming so well known in the design world thanks to Sarah tv shows and giving Tommy all that exposure) and took two of Sarah's other leading designers with him. I don't know Sarah personally, but after building such of an intimate relationship with Tommy, allowing him to assist her on her family's "personal" design projects - it must have been heartbreaking for a dear friend and STAFF member to betray her like that and pinching her two designers. Sarah has gone on and so has Tommy. He now has his own design firm with those two staff members. Hopefully, Sarah has learned a valuable lesson. Allow staff members to work at the firm and do their job and leave them behind the camera - not in front of it. When you do, they think they are bigger and better than you and they won't think twice about betraying their boss and stealing staff members. Both are incredible talents...but let's admit this...Tommy honed his skill and learned a lot from Sarah. He owes her a lot...and wouldn't have the success he has had had it not been for the generosity of Sarah.
Tommy always had to be a 'yes man' to Sarah! FYI...Had to kiss her *ss. I liked Tommy more. He was less spoiled and likable. Sarah's head got more and more bigger as she got richer!
Shame on Tommy for leaving and taking some of Sarah's staff with him. But shame on those staff members for following him. Loyalty is a rare commodity today.
I understand that all the designers who left wanted more creative freedom and chances to initiate, and likely improve earnings. I believe this was openly requested within SR Design but no progress was made. They created a group of independent designers with a shared logistics service for billing, business management, etc. I suppose this continues, though it’s not mentioned here. He didn’t twist anyone’s arm, and I don’t believe SR was left out of efforts to restructure their jobs to satisfy their professional goals prior to departing.
Can’t watch entire video. Ugh! I lost respect for her when she kept profiting off HGTV. Island home, so many homes and bunnies and showing off their plane, boat etc. no one can relate to her. Too pricey, too selfish, too much! Didn’t finish video but Tommy, good for you to crawl out from under her stilettos!! Best of luck to you.
I am not sorry at all to see them part their ways! I was not a Tommy supporter…he should do his own thing! I do appreciate Sarahs’ flavours in decorating…she is really good at what she does! She is definitely a professional, different strokes for different folks…just saying!
Lol this is kind of a ridiculous statement. She made her success (like many do) and her and her husband have hobbies (boat/plane) I know someone who isn't rich but has a small plane and boat like them... Should I cut them off because they have those things.. so silly.
