I grew up in Dublin and in my early 20s (early 80s) things were bleak jobwise. I opted for emigration and thus far have lived in four countries. Things worked out so everything ended up grand - I remember heading home in the late 90s and 2000s and the Celtic tiger was up and running and it felt great to return with the mot & kids to reconnect with family, friends - visit the old haunts etc. Fast forward to post 2008; post-financial crisis, I flew home and strolled into town. As I ambled past the five lamps - the penury was tangible - it was nostalgic - it was 1980s Dublin. It unnerved me to witness it as I walked down the road looking at the same once again. If you're in Ireland and experiencing anything similar to the above - head to Holland, learn the language and see how relatively easy life can be.

You left your own country in search of work, and a better life typical of all the lrish down through the years gone by..You speak of the unemployment situation in the 1980's let me tell you that was another manufactured contrived downfall or collapse of the economy within the country at the time to simply get rid of people out of the country, but now we have a situation where lreland is opened up the WORLD and his mother, and everything else in between extended families cats, dogs and budgies too.. These migrants and their families who receive free houses in lreland that cost in the range of €350,000 plus free cars free college education, and no shortages of work for them oh no that's only reserved for the second class lrish in their own country to boot..HOW does that make you feel to know that people from other countries are living the life that you were denied as an indigenous lrish person in your own country honestly. ?
Hard to believe watching this, that Tommy ended up with his own show on RTE and that he'd be pretty much a national treasure. It didn't help that the audience on this night were dry shites from the beginning before any of the more dodgy material started, but Jesus can you imagine someone coming on with that material today. How times have changed.
My god, this is an appalling interview. Tiernan is doing his best to shock with his racism and homophobia and Ryan is totally out of his depth to stop it.
And here is the reason why Ryan never got the Late Late Show. Even when it was handed to him on a plate, he still went out of his way stuffed it up for himself!
He made an absolute mess of this interview. Kept interrupting Tommy when he was trying to get going and ruining the momentum of jokes so punchlines fell flat. Even gave away a punch line before he even started the joke.
Hard to watch him. Both of them.this wasn't a good show. But Tierney is a very good interviewer,Fact! I've seen clips from a show,like a chat show. Good listener. @2.11, his left eye looks fake ( sorry) but some ppl do have.. No offense intended,it's just strange. Or could be camera/ lighting effect
Yeah I think he had a problem with that back around that time, I seen him live in 2008 and it was surreal to say the least, very incoherent at the best of times, but still remember not being able to breath with laughter 😂😂😂

That place and crowd and host were so dry. Tommy tried to crack a few jokes but they just sunk. May Gerry Ryan R.I.P and all that jazz but he was awkward here.
The Late Late Show audience is thee worst audience EVER to play to as a comedian. This comes from every comedian who has appeared on the show. The age demographic is ancient. The majority in the audience are conservative people, who think Pat Shortt's comedy is extreme and edgy.

I loved to listen to him in mornings on my days off (living abroad) from 9 - 11. I found after 11 the show got a bit silly or smthn. Also, GR on one of his shows said smthn once that inspired me to travel and chase my dreams.

Ryan was full of his own self importance . All that ever excited him on his radio show was smut , he thought he was so intelligent but he wasn't because he killed himself with drugs ....bye bye not missed !

Yes he is extremely funny and clever and his humour is honest. As for that annoying Brendan O'Carroll and Mrs.Brown's Boys FFS. I was born in the UK and my parents were Irish immigrants I say this because so many Brits love that travesty of a programme here They honestly believe that Irish people are like the people depicted in the programme. Stupid. It enrages me so much. Irish people's humour is very sophisticated and intelligent very much like the Scottish humour. He is not a comedian. I'd say he's very funny in some other settings...in a group. His friends. But its not that he steps over the line as some famous comedians do...H e gets nervous I think and forgets the golden rule of comedy. Something's are not funny. Real life for some people. Not to be used due to lack of material or quick wit n comebacks he IS lacking. N yes..he seems nice guy other than that. I'd imagine if he wanted to really make it as a comedian....trick would be..just be himself..I've seen one in terview where he talks about himself n life n just general and he was actually NATURALLY funny. So maybe forget trying to squeeze humour from related subject content here which is highly inappropriate. Onlybthe big boys in the game know how to do this n never actually follow through but hint n apologise..improvise...change the subject. They wouldn't touch what he just said. People find different people funny. Jimmy Carr is a second rate TV presenter, the least talented person on 8/10 cats. He's quite entertaining when working off a prepared script on a pre-recorded show and has a few good one liners in his live shows. Frankie Boyle would wipe the floor with him.
Nobody can be this relaxed on tv or radio anymore because its like walking on eggshells constantly, you cant say this, you cant say that, any innocent joke or slip up and theres a group of people ready and waiting to be offended
