I personally really enjoyed this book and it is actually one of my favourites of this year 😅 It is a shame you didn't fully connect to the characters. I personally found I was really connected to each of them, but I guess that just shows how varied different people's experience of the same book is! Whenever the book switched to Sam's or Sadie's perspective, I found I really agreed and connected with that character. Then, as soon as it switched to the other perspective, I was able the other character as well. I found this made me truly empathise with both sides of the story and made both characters feel very human. I hope you enjoy 'A Study in Drowning' more 🤞
Oh wow, that's so mind boggling how different our reading was from one another. I think that's amazing that you managed to connect with the characters, meanwhile, I didn't feel that at all. Definitely goes to show the difference in peoples perceptions when it comes to writing style and their preferences. I'm so glad you enjoyed it though! 🥰
I read this book earlier this year & gave it 4 stars, which I don´t give away very easily. I didn´t really connect with the characters either, or understand their decisions. To be honest I didn´t even like any of the characters (😅..), but it was so interesting to read about them & their feelings anyway. Usually I dislike books that make me feel that way, but for some reason this was an exception in that sense. I remember thinking in multiple scenes how clever the writing was & it kept me hooked throughout. Also I liked the way Sam and Sadies relationship wavers through the book, but they still have such a strong connection. I´m going to save A study in drowning for my autumn tbr, but I´m very excited to have it as a book club pick. I´ll come back watching the video of it later then😊
Oh how I love this different perspective! I find it so interesting that we felt so similarly about the book but yet took such different things from it. This is why I adore book discussion. Your points are so valid! Sadly, I just don't think i connected with the writing ultimately, in which left me feeling a bit deflated. By no mean did i not enjoy this book at all, i very much did but i think it was just the disconnection from the characters and a mix of not particularly favouring the writing style, that ultimately lead me to feeling a bit let down. I loved reading your thoughts - thank you for sharing! Completely understandable about A Study in Drowning, I have craving Autumn right now.. hence adding it to the pot to be picked hehe 🧸💌✨
It most definitely does have that representation for one of our main characters. It's quite a pivotal point in the plot. I can't comment on how the representation was, within the book as feel i'm not 'qualified' to do so, if that makes sense. However, i thought there were times in which you did really feel the emotions in which our character was feeling and also it was used in a very clever manner to jump timelines and make it non linear, providing context and background. 🥰✨
@@woodlandbunny oh no now I'm conflicted after reading your comment. Maybe I'll see if I can snag this as an audiobook. My curiosity wants to see how the representation is portrayed
@@goodmornindreamer I definitely think it's still worth the read and I am still glad I read it, despite the slight disappointment. I just really hope you love it more than I did
