Keith is the most reliable and best on you tube at what he does. Shame some of the other journalists, such as Craig Hope don't watch Keith and learn from his example.
Don’t think he was anything special. Was up against nothing all night, and Felix still had couple of chances. Totally a bottom 6/upper Championship player - which what Bournemouth were. Burn will be back in anyhow, and it will all fall apart again. Within 30seconds of him coming on Chelsea played ball in behind him. Desperately need Botman back, and a new CB with some pace.
Kelly should be starting if we gonna press high, Sandro should not play anywhere else but as a 6 , Bruno should be further forward he dwells on the ball as opposed to Sandro who is faster on it and keeps the game flowing... hopefully Eddie is not gonna be stubborn and put bruno back as a 6
I love watching BDB play he always gives 109% but Kelly looked really good tonight and his pace could/ should be the deciding factor on which one starts next week
Kelly is better n all Depatments than Dan Burn. Pace, positioning, passing especially long balls and carrying the ball out from the back. I suspect that his heading ability in attacking situations such as corners might be better too.
Kelly was great today for us and needs a consistent run of games in the team, Dan has passion, height and strength, but his lack of pace and mobility is a huge disadvantage that teams exploit regularly. I wouldn't change the line up for the Arsenal game but knowing Eddie, Dan will be back for the Arsenal game.
Longstaff is a limited footballer, but sometimes limited footballers work in certain systems and he is by far and away our most suited midfielder to that right 8 role. Sandro centrally and Bruno left 8 for me. Kelly has to get in over Burn as well, defensive unit looked a lot less panicked.
If Dan Burn plays again unless either Kelly or Hall are injured I will be joining the Eddie out brigade, as I will know he is getting playing time as he is a favourite. We can no longer afford to carry such players if we want to get into Europe this season.
Your are absolutely bang on about longstaff. I was lucky enough to watch it near enough pitch level last night and he absolutely bosses the way the midfield carry themselves. Granted hes no where near as technical as players in the mix there but he knows exactly how to make up for it else where. Fair play to him. He was class last night.
Great seeing this content from you Keith, brilliant analysis and thought provoking questions posed. Hopefully toon are in Europe next year like the Jambos!
Ive been get laughed at for suggesting bringing longstaff back, and what people dont realise is its not always about the individual qualities of a player, its the way a player fits into a team. The Lampard/Gerrard conundrum comes to mind every time i hear people saying "you've got to play your best players regardless", and in a ideal world thats the case, but its not always true.
Tonali is a better defensive midfield option than Bruno. Tonali is more economical with his passing. Bruno takes too many touches and holds on to the ball too much. Many conceded goals were as a result of Bruno holding on too long, then losing possession. Tonali plays one touch football, gets the game moving, but Bruno often kills it. Bruno is a superb player, but I think you're right about playing him in a more attacking support role. It also means Bruno can press higher up the pitch and create in the bottom third.
Totally agree. Love Bruno but he slows everything down so much. He looks like he's running but hes moving in slow motion oppositin are instantly all over him and goes down for a foul and the game stops. Good for holding onto a leading position but going forward it doesn't help.
Considering our horrid draws in the past, Brentford at home is about the best we could have asked for.Just need the lads to show up again like they did tonight.
I dont care what players Chelsea put out, the still had 100 million pound players on the pitch. We still had Murphy and Longstaff (no disrespect to them but in the financial value of players, that Chelsea squad was still World Class). Great performance and people have a go at Eddie for his game management but look at other managers in this league who force their players to play out from the back despite the players not liking it or feeling comfortable doing it, yet they persist and how many teams suffer because of it? These are meant to be managers who are better than Howe, yet they persist. This is what cost Chelsea today not that they played their not so 2nd team. The high press was back and it upsets these teams who struggle playing it out of the back. Long may it continue.
@ yeah fair one I saw him in the bench but it was Alex Murphy lol. However, my point still stands. Out came the “it was only Chelsea’s 2nd team” excuses quite early on. We made 5 changes ourselves. They had one player on that pitch that cost more than our entire bench (ok maybe two players) but you don’t hear that. That was a strong Chelsea side and we shit them out with Lewis Hall, Emile Kraft as full backs. Brilliant from the lads and our midfield looked more composed with Longstaff and Tonali in.
It was nice to see Bruno given more freedom when he came on. I’ve not really heard this discussed but I wonder if joelinton could solve our issue on the right wing? That would keep Gordon/Barnes in there preferred position on the left and open up room for one of our midfield options.
It seems to me that this is the first time this season that Bunce has given Eddie players fit enough to play the way he wants to. It’s all very well having players fully fit watching European games on TV but we want them playing in them.
Awesome Keith, hopefully shuts up the haters. Eddie game management of that was brilliant. A solid start, team togetherness, high press first half then solid defensively in 2nd half and bringing on Bruno to kill off Chelsea's attack and control the pace was a masterstroke. brilliant subs. Hugely impressed with Tonali and Kelly taking their chance. Hall gets better every game, so good on the ball. Osula getting a good run. Krafth was awesome too. J7 Willock and Isak linked up so well, the team was far better balanced with Gordon on RW even though he is best on the LW. Certainly given Eddie a nice headache with some options. Sean Longstaff looking essential but how you fit them all in I don't know because Willock did well too. Tonali is our 6 and Bruno the 8 surely.
A good result, hopefully the springboard for our season to kick on. My only criticism is we have to start converting chances, Joelinton hitting the post and Willock firing over which although a difficult chance these are the fine margins that have been missing these last few games and could have turned a few more games round recently. Set pieces are still disappointing and that has to be looked at. Although Chelsea made 8 changes it was still a very good side so take the positives from that and go into the weekend’s fixture with a bit momentum
I think we still can’t finish our dinner. Balls into the box in 2nd half were frustrating as well. But I’m happy for the win. And loves seeing Kelly play well.
Kelly and Halls performance against Chelsea moves Dan Burn into a backup player forever now. The performance of Osula should show Eddie that he is ready for more than five minutes at the end of the game if our finishing goes back to what it has been lately, no goals in open play in nearly 450 minutes. Tonali should be playing number six and should be taking a lot more dead balls.
When the visiting team manager decides to make eleven changes to his team, it's quite simply disrespectful. He probably thought it was going to be a walk in the park (pun intended). Never underestimate the strength, the desire, and the passion of Newcastle United and its supporters, do so at your peril !!!
Good video Keith. Would be great for Newcastle to go all the way. However, this cup has a hollow ring to it with so many teams putting out a reserve team, it’s like they want to get knocked out. Not sure what can be done to get clubs to take it seriously - just feels there’s something missing. Sorry to be negative.
Please Please Please Keith DO NOT suggest to Eddie what you’ve just said about maybe putting Dan Burn at left back again. I do not want that thought rolling round his head over the next few days until Arsenal. The thought of Saka torturing him will interrupt what little sleep I already get.So don’t even mention it.Thanks 🥱
Our best performance of the season? No way. We played much better against Brighton and Man City. We still need to create more, Chelsea literally gifted us two goals. And Chelsea bossed the second half but without Palmer are toothless. Even when we gave them clear chances they still couldn't score. Chelsea are so reliant on Palmer, thankfully he didn't come on. We need to be better against Arsenal on Saturday because Saka, Havertz and Trossard won't be missing the Nkunku and Felix chances.
Schar wouldn't be in the team I wanted, and Bruno / Barnes would have also started. I would honestly prefer Burn & Kelly at centre back, Schar has not played well all season. Burn cannot take Halls place, Hall has been excellent and is lighting fast, only place DB at centre back and don't keep half way up the pitch, because he is too slow to get back. Your comments about Longstaff i find absolutely shocking, who's place is he gonna take, Joelinton?
We win it, get passed Brentford with our current squad, buy non cup tied overseas players in January to help us win this cup, which will kill 2 birds with 1 stone ie Trophy and European football, then kick on in the summer
Chelsea had no shame in playing their 2nd 11 - much like Man City. It seems the big boys are not taking the cupofcoco Cup seriously again. Chelsea still had twice as many shots and almost twice as much possession as Newcastle. Brentford will be hungrier and a much more difficult task. I expect that Arsenal will have a plan to deal with Newcastle pressing high on Saturday and will take them apart.
We all know you are in the Eddie out camp but it’s the owners who will decide that in the interim you go with the flow because it’s the owners who hire and fire.
Hi Keith, well done on 13.5 K in subscribers. Excellent news I hope I am the first RU-vid channel #paulgallant3675 to sing songs about Newcastle United current squad. I think we can get 3rd come next May
