Yes the original Tongans were black look up pictures of Tonga from the 1800s we are not from Lapita but we did mix our DNA with them..I am Tongan if you know our true history then you will know that the colonizers and missionaries hid our real identity from us and where we come from. We were the world's greatest navigators that went around the world and mixed with south east Asians to palangis from Europe and that is why we lost our true melanin skin tone. We are raised to hate dark skin because it was taught to us by the missionaries who were already racist and white supremacists and that is why we love light skin and worship a white Jesus

y'all weren't great navigators but were lost in the middle of the Pacific ocean. All the bigger land masses with vast valleys and rainforests in the Pacific were occupied and populated by Melanesians. The tiny atols were left for your ancestors to call home.

The problem with the racial structure is that it oversimplifies the diversity of humanity. Ethnicity is far better suited for defining differences between people.
Yes, people often simplified it to Black or White... meanwhile the people that they consider black or white itself have a whole different face and body construction. Whole different genes but same skin color. As a melanoid, we do have dark skin but our genes were closer to southern east asia than to African, and african closer to caucasian than to us. Another example, Siberian people are closer to mongoloid than to caucasian. Arabic closer to Caucasian than to Mongoloid. Even though we and them have quite similar skin color to each other, but we are a whole different people. That's why we should define things by ethnicity more than skin color. Because defining things by skin color makes no sense.
@@HonestPerson-qt3dewho were the people? I know, but Black and White… are “modern” racial constructs, much of it was written into law during the colonial/ slavery period… when slavery has / had existed for centuries, globally. Nearly all indigenous people have an admixture of different ethnicities. Of course there are obviously outliers. Interesting thing for me is that the moderator stated the high percentage of Mormons in Tongan culture. Let that resonate for a second… Also a noted fact, anywhere that was colonized, and religion instituted, much of the original history was erased~see one of the more famous examples ~Diego de Landa… Colonialist were well known for attempting to bred out the indigenous and destroy all indigenous cultures records, etc. then rewrite and start a new history. Black and White are purposeful, and it’s a reason why it’s “oversimplified”
No it’s because Tongans are really not black, Melanesian means Black Islander for a reason. Tongans were never seen as black or they would’ve been labeled Melanesian. Tongans are Polynesian
😂😂😂😂. Tongan and Samoan here. Nothing black about me!!! Stop misleading people with this nonsense. Black people have their own beautiful culture like us Islanders.
Better take a look back 200 years ago no thy self the missionaries did some really fucked up shit in the islands, But they could not get that shit off in Melanesia they were too fierce so they just said fuck it and continued to corrupt the bloodlines and minds of the rest of the pacific don't feel bad they also programmed 80million aboriginals in north America telling many that they were descendants of African slaves when only 5% of the 12 million Africans taken made it into North America ..smh

Now Fijians are the black people of Polynesian people. Me growing up around Polynesians alone of people thought I was Fijian but I'm actually Cuban African American. I love my Polynesian brothers and sisters and hope to go to Tonga one day. Cheeeehoooooo. Malo
As a Pacific Islander, Fijians fall under the Melanesian category. Fijian don’t fall under the Polynesian rim. They’re three categories that are considered a Pacific Islander 1. Polynesia 2. Micronesia 3. Melanesia
I am from Papua New Guinea and even some Papua New Guineans from the coasts and islands do look like Fijians, Vanuatus, Solomon Islanders, Torres Strait Islanders, New Calendonians or the Aboriginal people of Australia and so on. Melanesian are dark skinned. Micronesians are more like the Asian and Polynesians are light skinned, most are tall and fat. Fijians are Melanesians and are a part of the Melanesian Spearhead Group.
The world is confused so much!!!being black is not crime, black nation are very rich with mineral resources, Gold, diamond, oil, Tanzanite, so much wealth,so people's who still think about race history things, that won't exist anymore, human is human, that is enough.

We need to get over calling everyone "Black". It has no meaning. I don't care if the world forced it on us. We don't have to accept that empty label. People associate themselves with a culture and a land place, not a skin color. The idea of putting color labels on people came from the "West", from Babylon. We don't have to keep supporting those labels anymore. I am falsely labeled "Black American", but in reality I am Chatah-Cherokee on my mother's side, possibly Alabama Creek and "African" on my father's side. These names mean much more to me than just "Black". Let's stop telling other people who we think they are.

Well said, my father’s family is Cherokee and Saponi-Sioux from Florida and Georgia classified as Black/AA by the fed. While my mother is Chinese-Jamaican. I was raised as a Black American and feel no need to identify with “Africa” as I have no ties in my family tree that I can find, what’s the point? It’s not self-hate to be happy in your identity, quite the opposite in fact.
People with Black skin are all over the world especially near equator. Doesn't necessarily means its the same race (Whatever race means) Even in Africa no one will tell you I am black. We Identify with Nationality, Region,Tribe ,Clans and Family names. Its when we go outside of Africa that we all become blacks. In my country The European,Chenese, etc are all White people and of course they are not the same but we call them awhite just for their skin color.
People need to understand the difference between being "black" of sub-saharan African and phenotypically "black" like Aboriginals in Australia and the Negritos of Asia.
he is not saying that all sub-Saharans are of the same ethnicity, he is just saying that the "black" phenotype or genes of sub-Saharan Africans is not the same as that of Australian aborigines and Melanesians, even in India there is a black native people, the "jarawa" but they are not the same as black Africans, the shape of their nose is different, their face is different, and their blackness is greater than that of native Africans. Every continent in the world has ethnic diversity, even Europe, but little is said about it in Europe, because nowadays Europeans are not interested in discussing ethnicity, people, especially Africans and Asians, must stop wanting to fight over racial and ethnic issues. this still generates enmity between many ethnic groups in Africa. People must know how to cultivate peace and not strife.
As a Papua New Guinean, I look at the label of "black" as being an African centric term. I am a Melanesia Pacific Islander or Black of other origin. I can also not classify myself black because of the historical connotations associated with it.
I understand what you said I do respect your choices. However, that's not what most of us Black people mean when we call ourselves Black. Most Black Americans are what Africans would call Colored. I haven't seen anyone on this video who doesn't look like Black Americans. Besides many people called Black have no African DNA.

I’m not sure I’ll buy into that cause if we go back to some of the other tribes and stuff that are from Africa, they look like them except the skin is lighter. @@briantakoboy5173 I’m not the person who classify Melanesians, it’s Europeans who always viewed these people as black. Furthermore, no where in history have tongans been classed as such. In particular Melanesia means islands of black people in Greek which emphasises their blackness even further.

I struggle with the fact that "the Rulers" seem to always know the truth and we somehow seem to not know the truth. My question is this, how do they get to know the truth and "we" somehow seem to not know the truth? Another question is this, what are "we" doing with our time to be distracted to not know "the truth".
Tongans isn't a race. I'm responding to some of the replies where people are saying that. Tongan, Samoan, and the Hawaiian natives are the same but just different to similar cultures and nationalities. Tonga is a nationality. Not a race. I reside on Westcoast in California. The Tongan and Samoan look very. Some look more Asian. Some look mixed with Black African. Others, i couldn't tell if they were Black or Tongan. The same is true with Samoan. There were certain things that stood out that made me ask. Even more so with the Fiji people who look even more Black African. And I've met my share. And their looks can vary, too. I used to go to school with this Black girl back who could pass for Tongan. And a lot of Japanese and Black mixed people can pass for Tongan and Samoan. It's funny because i saw a Samoan lady agreed with me when I'd said that this Japanese and African mixed woman could pass. The Samoan lady said that i was right because the Japanese and black mixed woman looks like people in her family. It's also possible that Asian aka mongoloid people aka Denisovan people mixed with Africans aka homisapiens some centuries ago and created a different type of genetics that makes it hard to tie directly to African and Asian mongoloid. Especially when I look at the people from Papua New Guinea who look even more Black. Anything is possible when we look at possible travel during the ice age, and each group, including the Neanderthal people, encountered each other and eventually copulated. The people of Solomon Islands look like a mixture of all 3. And for all that we know. There could be other groups nit related to the 3 that played a role.
@ilove100times I'll state it again. Denisovans possibly mixed with homisapiens. Similar to Neanderthal and homo-sapiens. No one really knows. As I'd stated already. I've seen my share of Tongan and Samoan, where sometimes I couldn't tell if they were Black or the other two. But they'd identified as the latter two. Again. I wouldn't be surprised if the two crossed paths during prehistoric times. No one really knows. But like the Papua New Guinea and many Fiji people, I have seen many who could pass for Black African and have been mistaken for Black.
Tongans and Somoans do not consider themselves as "balcks". They'd rather be white or Asian. As for us Melanesians, we are Black no matter what. And. regardless, of the DNA haplogroups which can be manipulated by our oppressors so they can keep us separated, there is a deep connection with other blacks in America and Africa..

Why is the basis of this video trying to see if we’re “black”? Black is not a race. If you are trying to see if the place of origin is Africa, that is a whole different topic. Trying to throw people together in a box without taking into account cultural differences, or traditions is a disservice. As a Tongan living in America, I know some “black” people that don’t associate themselves as African, and some Africans that don’t associate themselves as “black”. So if you’re trying to find a place of origin, I can see that. But to just dismiss culture, tradition, and ethnicity just to say people are “black” is lazy.
@lulibalumu no resentment. That’s because I know who I am and that is TONGAN 🇹🇴🇹🇴 if your little mohe mimi brain only sees skin tone, then there is something wrong with you and not me.
Tongans are not black, we’re literally on the other side of the globe from Africa. Europeans are genetically closer to Africans, Polynesians settled the most remote region on Earth our geographic isolation caused genetic isolation therefore we aren’t related to anyone but other Polynesians
Afros weren’t even touted by Africans historically, the “Afro” is a hairstyle first introduced to the world by American icons like the Jacksons, Pam Grier, Fred Hampton and others during the Civil Rights era. Yet the “Afro” can be seen in the earliest photos of aboriginal Fijians, Hawaiians, Tasmanians, and even modern Solomon Islanders, Papuans, and Andaman Islanders. Some of whom have naturally blonde hair, calling it an Afro at this point is ridiculous in hindsight with this knowledge because it’s not a hairstyle originating in Africa or from African people.
