Tongariro Alpine Crossing [NZ] | Hiking with kids 

In mid-December 2021, we hiked New Zealand’s famous 19.4 km (12.1 mile) Tongariro Alpine Crossing - also known as the Tongariro Crossing - with our 4 year old. The hike took us a total of 10 hours, and the little guy was able to walk nearly all of it by himself. Although it was a LONG day and the hike was not what we’d consider easy, the experience of making this journey together was worth every painful step.
