thanks, glad it was helpful! I am quite busy at the moment, but I really want to try and get some tutorials up on the respiratory system, in particular structures of the larynx as I've been getting a few requests for these - stay tuned and I'll do my best to get these up! :)

This is good, but it would be great if you could have them labeled or put what you're talking about on the bottom.

Hi I'm just wondering, do you think maybe the glossopharyngeal part of the superior pharyngeal constrictor does the tongue retraction, rather than the styloglossus?

really good, but if you could briefly go through innervation and maybe blood supply between each section it would be the ultimate revision tool! excellent vid though! :)

Thanks for the video on the tongue muscles. I'm researching the complications on the tongue muscles after removal of the lower wisdom tooth. It's been 2 years that my wisdom tooth is removed and my tongue situation is getting worse day by day, with every movement of my tongue, my tongue is bitten by the very back molars, so after 2 years I have a ulcer at the back of my tongue due to 24/7 trauma and my pain in unbearable. I have been to so many dentists with no results. But now with all the self studies that I'm doing I think that the dentist that removed my wisdom tooth might have damaged the hyogolossus and palatogolossus muscle of my tongue, also I lost a lot of bone during the surgery due to lots of damage that was done to my jaw bone. Is it common that these muscles get damaged during the removal of an erupted wisdom tooth? What specialists should I see to confirm the damage of these muscles? What type of exams do they have to do to confirm it?

in 2:43, You said geniohyoid originate from the superior mental of mandible but you meant the genioglossus, are not you?
@c1assic7
@c1assic7 9 лет назад
sure he did , the similarity in the names of the two muscles geniohyoid and genioglossus pretty much explains the mistake.

Interesting video! To anyone who knows the tongue and jaw muscles, I have a question. I am a middle aged male singer: I have a muscle that clearly attaches to the hyoid & obviously above/center of the Adam's apple. The muscle in particular isn't hurting, but I have a small knot at the base of the hyoid. The muscle does not hurt and I call it a muscle as I can make it softer or harder by lowering my tongue. Is it possible to tear these muscles and cause this knot I feel at the hyoid? It move freely to the left or right with 1cm of it's origin. Many thanks to anyone who has seen or can confirm this for me. It worries me to some extent, thank you!

Aint1S I don't have the answers to your question other than it could be a strain, tear from singing, not sure. I would suggest seeing a 'master' cranial sacral therapist. They would have more answers for you and it is great therapy, imho.

You could use Netter diagrams (there is an online version), not only from Gray's Anatomy for the muscles that this 3D model doesn't show, for exemple palatoglossus muscle :)
