I was trying to figure out why the sound effects and the feel of this game was so familiar, but then I looked into and I played the crap out of a different tonka game. These videos are a very odd experience, like recovering repressed childhood memories, but the sound of a spray paint and drill noise can can bring it all together

Like, I had heard of it from the instruction manual for Tonka Raceway and Tonka Search & Rescue, but I never saw it in person. When I was a kid I played a Tonka game that was fucking rad. I think it was called Tonka: Search and Rescue or something? You had to save people's lives using rescue vehicles like fire trucks and helicopters and stuff. Then after you saved them you used construction vehicles to fix the problem. It used the same assets as this one (The Builder sprites in particular) and your vehicle customizations carried over into the rest of the game, I think. It was fucking rad

I used to play this religiously when I was 4-8 years old. I can confirm it didn't have any lag or framerate issues, I have very fond memories of playing this for hours on end. I really loved putting things together, so I was obsessed with the building and the vehicle assembly.

Awww yes, this game. Even though it is a pretty simplistic and dumb game at its core, I still loved the heck out of it as a kid. To be fair, it's probably the best Tonka game too, as even if you don't enjoy the gameplay, the humor more than makes up for it, and I don't know why, but I always found a charm with that uncanny animation. I guess I just thought it was so over the top that it was hard not to enjoy. Oh yeah, thanks for shouting me out! I do appreciate you giving me credit for the footage! Let me know if you need anything else in the future! Oh yeah, when you mentioned the scrolling...I thought you were referring to the scrolling being too fast. Not sure what in the world happened to cause that, but it looked...painful, to say the least. I can see why you gave up. EDIT: Oh yeah, and I noticed you showcased Rusty (the city guy) shoving the phone up his butt...I FEEL SO PROUD FOR HAVING AN INFLUENCE ON YOU! (Yes, I told him to mention it in a Skype conversation, before you ask)

I was a fan of everything tonka as a kid. Seeing this just takes me back to the good ol days. Speaking of which, I remember playing another tonka construction game as a kid, I can't for the life of me remember it's name though. If I remember correctly, it had more animations than the other tonka games, making it feel more like you were playing through interactive cut scenes than anything. I remember my favorite "mini game" being about driving a dump truck.

After looking into it, there doesn't seem to be any correlation. The CD-i's cutscenes were the product of Magic Animation, and I don't see anyone credited for the Tonka game's cutscenes. Perhaps the Vortex Media Arts people were the ones behind the cutscenes. Either way it looks to be just a coincidence.

Actually they are going in the RIGHT direction. Tonka was a British company who specialised in extremely tough toys (vehicles IIRC). This game thwrefore is based on a British toy range and is therefore going in the correct way according to being a British product. I remember that Tonka used to make ride on toys for especially toddlers as I used to have one. In fact I think there is a photo album somewhere in my house of me sitting on my ride on vehicle (I can't remember what type of vehicle it was but I think it was a dump truck)

You could find an assortment of treasures in the quarry, you could custom design your buildings in the city, after you paved the road you could build your own little town around it, and in the mountains you built a resort and designed ski trails. It was a ton of fun as a kid.

Oh good lord the nostalgia. I remember playing this game with a keyboard set that you strapped onto the keys and played around with the tools on top so that you could really feel like a builder. And this wasn't the first game to do so, they had a game for Easy-Bake Kitchen and had the same kind of keyboard set. Honestly, it was more fun playing the game with the set than just the mouse since it helped immerse you in the game that you were playing. The games stuck with me until I was about 9 or 10 and I'm glad that I played them. Thanks Mom & Dad.

Sir, you keep tastefully reviewing the exact games I played as a kid when I often can't find them anywhere else. Thanks for doing what you do!

I never would have seen how good (or bad) some of those games actually were lol.

The Tonka games were probably my favorite games as a kid, especially Tonka Racing and Tonka Workstation, or something. I still have the big table thing that you'd set on the keyboard for that Workstation one that pushed the buttons for you while you pretended to actually use the tools.

Oh my god, I totally loved this game as a kid. Haven't played it in... probably 15 years. And it taught me just how deceiving nostalgia goggles can be; I do not remember the animation being that odd. Still, it holds a special place in my heart.

Man, this reminds me of a Tonka fire truck game I played as a kid. It was a 3-D game and you could drive a couple fire trucks, a bulldozer and a helicopter in first person. The only parts I remember is putting out fires with the helicopter, running over stuff with the bulldozer, and shooting off fireworks for some reason...

Those little guys were the only thing I remembered from this game. It hit right in the childhood, but I don't really remember a whole bunch about me playing the game.

Dude! I had a Tonka game on my computer as a kid. But the really cool part was that it came with this weird toolbox that you would strap to your keyboard. It made it so that when you used the tools, it would press certain buttons on your keyboard. So instead of just pressing buttons, you would actually be using fake tools.

Man, this video made me go back. I didn't even remember the game until right now, but man that was fun.

Oh man. I remember this game. When I was little, I used to spend hours redoing the quarry over and over again. I don't really remember why, but it probably had something to do with the dinosaur skeletons.

Fun embarrassing fact (and no it's not the fact I rewatch all of brutal moose's channel when I'm feeling down): when I was less then 5 I played this game and loved it. I loved it so much, in fact, that I didn't want to leave to go to the bathroom. So I just peed right then and there thinking it would dry up real fast and not be a problem. It was. And that's when I knew I was a true gamer.

I had Tonka Construction 2, it's pretty much the same, although there's no garage. Construction is different looking because you have metal frame cubes to use as the base for everything.

This reminded me a lot of a game I used to play at a friend's house often. I don't think it was Tonka, but some similar brand, and used a computer peripheral attached to the keyboard that had tools to play with. I mostly remember one section that involved building a treehouse. Does anyone else remember this?

I remember having a 3 pack for this, it has racing, construction and I believe fireman. They entertained my and my brother for about a year; when we came back the nostalgia was gone :(

Dis shit was my childhood. Since I didn't have a computer when I was younger, whenever I was at my grandparents house, I played this on their Windows 2000 computer. It was awesome.

Ah Tonka... I had three of their games. Dig'n Rigs, which had this 'neat' little driver board thing to put on your keyboard (wheel, levers, etc. which pushed the buttons. worked well), Search and Rescue, which was a more action-based game...kinda, and space station...which I never played, ever, for some reason.

Ah this game....I wasted so many hours with this game. I loved it so much, my relatives kept giving me the spin-offs as presents. In elementary school I spent so many rainy days playing these Tonka games over and over again. For some reason my favorite was the Search and Rescue one...Nostaligia.

I used to have this game when I was a kid! My brother played it more than I did (I was more interested in the Play-Doh game that came in the same value pack) but the nostalgia here still hits me like a truck.
